Book excerpt: "The feeling was electric-energy humming through my body. I felt like blood was pouring into areas of my tissues that it had not been able to reach for some time. It was relieving and healing, subtler than the feeling from getting off on drugs, but it was detectable and lovely, and of course, there was no hangover, just a feeling of more ease than I could remember. I felt a warmth come over me similar to what I felt when I had done heroin, but far from the darkness of that insanity, this was pure light-a way through." - Tommy Rosen, on his first yoga experience Most of us deal with addiction in some form. While you may not be a fall-down drunk, anorexic, or a gambling addict, you likely struggle with addiction in other ways. Workaholism, overeating, and compulsively engaging with technology like video games, texting, and Facebook are also highly common examples. And if you don't suffer from addiction, chances are you know someone who does. Through more than 20 years of recovery and in working professionally with others, Tommy Rosen has uncovered core elements of recovery and healing, what he refers to as Recovery 2.0. In the book, he shares his own past struggles with addiction, and powerful, tested tools for breaking free from the obstacles that stand in the way of a holistic and lasting recovery. Building off the key tenets of the 12-Step program, he has developed an innovative approach that includes • Looking at the roots of addiction; your family history and "Addiction Story" • Daily breathing practices, meditation, yoga, and body awareness • A healthy, alkaline-based diet to aid with detox, boost immunity, increase vitality, support your entire recovery, and help prevent relapse • Discovering your mission, living on purpose, and being of service to others Recovery 2.0 will help readers not only release their addictions, but thrive in their recovery.

Book excerpt: "Time and again our Elders have said that the 12 Steps of AA are just the same as the principles that our ancestors lived by, with only one change. When we place the 12 Steps in a circle then they come into alignment with the circle teachings that we know from many of our tribal ways. When we think of them in a circle and use them a little differently, then the words will be more familiar to us. This book is about a Red Road, Medicine Wheel Journey to Wellbriety--to become sober and well in a Native American cultural way."--Back cover.

Book excerpt: Bestselling author and renowned Buddhist teacher Noah Levine adapts the Buddha's Four Noble Truths and Eight Fold Path into a proven and systematic approach to recovery from alcohol and drug addiction—an indispensable alternative to the 12-step program. While many desperately need the help of the 12-step recovery program, the traditional AA model's focus on an external higher power can alienate people who don't connect with its religious tenets. Refuge Recovery is a systematic method based on Buddhist principles, which integrates scientific, non-theistic, and psychological insight. Viewing addiction as cravings in the mind and body, Levine shows how a path of meditative awareness can alleviate those desires and ease suffering. Refuge Recovery includes daily meditation practices, written investigations that explore the causes and conditions of our addictions, and advice and inspiration for finding or creating a community to help you heal and awaken. Practical yet compassionate, Levine's successful Refuge Recovery system is designed for anyone interested in a non-theistic approach to recovery and requires no previous experience or knowledge of Buddhism or meditation.

Book excerpt: In 1969, car crashes killed over 1000 Victorians. By 2016, the fatality rate had been cut by 85%, and Victorians are now taking seriously the goal of eliminating death on the roads altogether. This extraordinary achievement is the product of sustained and ground-breaking approaches to preventing injury, saving lives, and optimising recovery. In 2001, the system to care for severely injured people received a major overhaul. The new Victorian State Trauma System halved the risk anyone injured would die, and became the envy of the world. From Roadside to Recovery is the story of the evolution, implementation, and impact of the Victorian State Trauma System, and those who championed it. This story shows what is possible when a community is determined to address the tragedy and cost of road trauma.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book of poetry is intended to offer "hope and inspiration", as refl ected in the Christian faith. It was written by our eldest son, Craig, when he was a teenager. We recently rediscovered it and decided to have it published, so that others can enjoy and be inspired by his creativity. Craig was born on January 17, 1963, in Hagerstown, MD. In 1972, our family moved to Buckeystown, MD, and to Smithsburg, MD, in 1976. Craig recently moved to Hagerstown , MD. He was always very artistic and creative, not only in his writings, but also, in his artwork and in other projects that he undertook. In his youth , he developed a very beautiful butterfl y and insect collection. He especially admired the Monarch butterfl y, as it is so majestic and colorful in appearance. He was an avid student of insects of all kinds and became very knowledgeable in the fi eld. He now enjoys imparting this knowledge to his neice and nephews. To this day, when we see a Monarch Butterfl y, or a Praying Mantis, we think of Craig. The butterfl y symbolizes transformation to a new life and freedom, as do these poems. THUS, the cover of this book shows the Monarch butterfl y, transformed from a caterpillar, to a chrysalis, and fi nally, to a beautiful butterfl y- one of God's amazing creations. The book also shows God's handiwork in the exquisite, scenic photographs taken by Joanie L. Kercheval, Craig's sister in law; & a drawing of Christ's passionate face, done by Craig in his late teens. The cover picture of the butterfl y was painted by Craig's mother, Nancy. Over the years, Craig has had several of his art works published & was the recipient of a variety of awards for his creativity in the arts. SPECIAL THANKS to Joanie for contributing her wonderful photographs to this book!

Book excerpt: William Watkins was executed in 1951 for the murder of his infant child. John Pugh, then a solicitor's clerk, was in court when the death sentence was announced and Pugh has never forgotten that experience. In Execution, Pugh undertook prodigious research to create this account of legal, political and public intrigue, and of indifference to the fate of a deaf bus driver. He goes on to argue that Watkins should not have been hanged and paints a picture of appalling injustice and policing. He also explains how the authorities have consistently refused to release the papers on this case.
