Book Synopsis Victim Victorious by : Marie-Claire Patron
Download or read book Victim Victorious written by Marie-Claire Patron and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2016-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is peopled by victims; everyone has a story. However, victimhood is just the beginning of the story. This book is about the endings of at least some of those stories, the stories of victims who strive to overcome and even triumph in the end. This book is a collection of research perspectives and personal stories exploring the various pathways for overcoming victimhood. It is hoped that they might offer an inspiration for others and encourage others to stay on the path to find a positive ending. Victim Victorious is an examination of the ways in which victims come to rise above the challenges that they face. Victims may be innocent bystanders, and in no way responsible for their victimhood. Nonetheless, they can -- and indeed we argue need to -- take responsibility for finding a personal solution. To assist in this task, this book chronicles the pathway of prejudice and how the pain and the damage experienced by individual victims may be overcome by effort, by and on their own behalf. The first half of the book features outsider views of victimhood. A range of professionals, philosophers, psychologists, criminologists and critical theorists offer their thoughts on how people might overcome victimhood. The second half of the book features insider views of victimhood; in this section, the victims speak for themselves about their experience and how they have endeavoured to break through their victimhood. This book is less about identifying and proscribing the behaviours of perpetrators and more about the efforts that victims can undertake to heal themselves as they journey towards resilience and victory.

Book Synopsis Don’t Be a Victim: Choose Victory! by : Carey Scott O'Neal Jr.
Download or read book Don’t Be a Victim: Choose Victory! written by Carey Scott O'Neal Jr. and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-03-19 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a book of hope. It is a book that will show its readers a path away from feeling like one does not fit in anywhere and to a path where one feels acceptance, confidence, and that they are loved and do fit in, but probably not the way that they expected. It explores what victimization is, how it affects people, and all the different aspects of being a victim--feelings like isolation, not fitting in, depression, broken-heartedness, being shunned, suffering survivor's guilt, and unforgiveness. It explores the side effects of feeling victimized, such as alcohol and drug abuse, prescription drug abuse, guilt complexes, lack of self-control, depression, anger, and fear. Each of these topics is discussed at length, including scriptural references regarding them and how these same emotions and trials were prevalent in biblical times as well as current times. Most importantly, however, this book tells how the author learned to rely not on himself for guidance and solutions, but on Jesus. It discusses how the author himself overcame fear, isolation, and decades of feeling victimized by surrendering the battles, disappointments, decisions, and paths to follow to God's leadership, and therein found peace, forgiveness, contentment, joy, and thanksgiving for every new day with Jesus.

Thus begins the unraveling of a ten year-long story of sexual exploitation, infatuation, and cover up. The author describes a life long struggle with secrets of his childhood at the hands of the pastor of his family's Episcopal Church. A teddy bear helps on the tortuous path toward a late life decision to sue his 95 year old abuser. This true story is a study in the complicity of family systems, the institutional church, the law, and the dangers of un-examined trust. It is the story of my life of carrying the secrets of sexual exploitation by my family's Episcopal Priest. I write about my own life as an Episcopal priest and also of effects of my secret on my wife and children. I describe "places" which were part of the secret and the effects of the tangling of spiritual moments with sexual moments and the impact of that on faith formation.
Book Synopsis Washed Away: From Darkness to Light by : Nikki DuBose
Download or read book Washed Away: From Darkness to Light written by Nikki DuBose and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2016-09-30 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Washed Away: From Darkness to Light is a memoir that recounts the experiences of model Nikki DuBose as she overcomes a more than seventeen-year battle with abuse, child sexual victimization, eating disorders, psychosis, alcoholism, drugs, depression, suicide attempts, body dysmorphic disorder, and various other mental health issues, all while trying to navigate through the dark side of the fashion industry. Her journey began as a young, introverted child with a florid imagination growing up in Charleston, South Carolina. By the age of eight she had been sexually, physically, and emotionally abused and had developed an eating disorder. The abuse warped Nikki's self-perception and sparked patterns of psychosis, depression and destructive behavior that stayed with her into adulthood. In her early twenties she began working as a television host and started a career in modeling. Eventually Nikki attained success, appearing on the covers of magazines such as Maxim, shooting for editorials like Vanity Fair, Glamour and FHM, and appearing in campaigns for Perry Ellis. Cast into a world of excess, superficiality, and vanity, Nikki traveled the globe and experienced the finest that the material world had to offer, all while feeling empty inside. Her disorders, addictions and mental health issues took her to the brink of mortality and only though a deeply painful inner-battle and her mother's death was she able to reconnect the lost pieces of her soul and see the person she had so long rejected. Her recovery from a nearly lifelong struggle with PTSD, psychosis, addictions and eating disorders has left Nikki with a passionate longing to help others who are also suffering by advocating for mental health and self-acceptance. In America, more than sixty-one million individuals are affected by mental illness. Child sexual abuse affects more than forty-five million people in the United States alone, yet it is still regarded as one of the most shameful issues to date. Eating disorders affect millions and are one of the most destructive and life-threatening mental afflictions today – anorexia nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any psychological illness. Despite the extent of the suffering, eating disorders and mental health issues are poorly understood in popular culture and are often stigmatized, mocked, or even glorified because of misconceptions and ignorance over the seriousness of the manner. Although the modeling industry has made strides towards body diversity in the past couple of years, there is a lack of education and awareness surrounding eating disorders and other mental health issues. We believe that through the recent societal trends and improved sharing of information, we are beginning to break this paradigm, therefore another aim of this book will be to educate the public. Washed Away: From Darkness to Light will serve as a testimony to others to let them know that they are not alone in their fears, doubts, and frustrations, and that through recovery all things are possible. “A compelling and educational read about the dark side of the fashion business and its effect on mental health. Nikki draws upon her experiences of overcoming a life-threatening eating disorder as she navigates through the industry, all while wrestling with a broken home life and struggling to discover her inner voice. Nikki’s story is truly remarkable and will serve as a beacon to anyone who has ever doubted their own intrinsic value. I highly recommend Washed Away: From Darkness to Light.” —Brian Cuban, Attorney, Author (Shattered Image: My Triumph Over Body Dysmorphic Disorder), Activist “I was truly amazed by her determination to live life. I saw a woman that had every reason to quit and remain silent, but she chose to break through every obstacle that challenged her. I am very grateful that she has taken on the challenge to not only speak about her experience, but to fight for change in laws that will empower children and survivors to protect themselves. We all need to learn from Nikki and use our voices to create positive change. It is no longer okay for the silence to outweigh the tough discussion. Ignorance will not stop child sex predators from harming our children.” —Matthew Sandusky, Founder & Executive Director of Peaceful Hearts Foundation, Author (Undaunted: Breaking My Silence to Overcome the Trauma of Child Sexual Abuse), Speaker “To endure what DuBose has within her first decade proves more than most could handle in a lifetime, yet she looks back at her life with grace and a rare honesty. As she takes us through the overly sexualized fashion industry as an international top model, she gives the no-holds barred account on mental illness, rape, and eating disorders that our society so desperately needs.” —Neesha Arter, Journalist & Author (Controlled) “Washed Away: From Darkness to Light is an incredible story of one brave woman’s perseverance in the face of daunting life circumstances. Nikki DuBose details her chilling experiences with an eating disorder, childhood sexual abuse, alcoholism and drug abuse - and how she found the strength to rise above and find recovery. This powerful read will inspire those in their own recovery journeys.” —Kristina Saffran, Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director at Project HEAL
Book Synopsis From a Caterpillar to a Butterfly: the Transformation from Victim to Victorious by : Angel Power
Download or read book From a Caterpillar to a Butterfly: the Transformation from Victim to Victorious written by Angel Power and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2022-03-13 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the prequel to “The Darkness & The Light”, also by Angel Power. These are the stories that go with the poetry. It is creatively broken down into metaphorical phases of a young woman’s transformation. Based on a true story, except for one fictitious scene that was written for therapeutic purposes, it begins with the end and ends with the beginning. Candid and raw, it exposes the dark reality of her tragic experiences and shares how she found the resilience to survive and transform. It will take you on a journey through overcoming exploitation, abuse, human trafficking, addictions, poverty, mental health challenges, the loss of a child, and more. It will explain stigma and the corruption of the social systems that claim to protect the most vulnerable. This will enlighten the reader to systemic injustices and the impacts on our vulnerable youth when protection is needed most. There is often prejudice toward high-risk youth and the challenges they face, especially those trying to cope with unmet needs. This book will bring validation to the reader from young adult to the guardians trying to protect them, as well as those who work in the field of trying to help them. It exposes some of the power imbalances and barriers that many women of all ages can face. In these confusing and scary times, exploitation continues to be on the rise and stigma still exists. It is hoped that this book will empower the victimized to find healthy coping mechanisms and natural ways of self-healing. For those who wish to protect them it may also provide some insights into never giving up the good fight that it takes in order to do so.
Download or read book The Good Soil written by Allen C. Hughes and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-03-19 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The good soil of our life is generated through the actions and habits of discipleship. Discipleship is the lifelong pursuit of learning to live a life under the guidance and care of God. We can live a life where we are guided and led by the perfect Father! We can experience the fruits of the good soil: a joy that goes beyond our circumstances, a peace that satisfies, work that is meaningful, and a love that abides. Unfortunately, in our culture the word “discipleship” has been misunderstood, misapplied, reduced, and in some cases used to manipulate serious men and women who desire to walk faithfully with the living God. The result is that many Christians live with an anemic understanding of discipleship, which limits their relationship with God, confuses their vocation, and keeps most Christians frustrated and on the periphery of the full Christian life. When discipleship is truly and fully engaged, what follows is an abundant life from God, full of gifts, challenges, meaning, and direction. This is the life I believe all Christians truly desire and I believe this book will help you move in that direction.
