Download or read book Advances in Gas Phase Ion Chemistry written by L.M. Babcock and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-12-21 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas phase ion chemistry is a broad field that has many applications and which encompasses various branches of chemistry and physics. Advances in Gas Phase Ion Chemistry, Volume 4, describes innovative ways of studying reactions as well as the application of unique apparatuses to problems in this field. This volume contains a series of chapters, in the general area of gas phase chemistry and physics, which are at the cutting edge of research. The chapters are not meant to be general reviews, but focus on the author's own work. They focus on both experimental and theoretical work, which gives a balance to the volume. Applications are included to appeal to a wider audience and to broaden the knowledge of the more fundamentally inclined. An application to environmental pollution monitoring and medical monitoring of breath is included. With successive volumes, the coverage broadens to include more current research in the title area. The book is aimed at graduate researchers, university faculty and graduates in industry. The editors have made a specific effort to include contributions from those relatively new to the field, which brings in new ideas and perspectives, as well as those more established workers, who bring a wealth of experience.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Gas Phase Ion Chemistry by : K.R. Jennings
Download or read book Fundamentals of Gas Phase Ion Chemistry written by K.R. Jennings and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the proceedings of the 1990 Advanced Study Institute entitled "Fundamentals of Gas Phase Ion Chemistry" held at Mont Ste. Odile , Alsace, France, 25th June -6th July, 1990. The Institute brought together over 100 physicists, physical and organic chemists working on a wide variety of topics with gas-phase ion chemistry as the common theme. Many different viewpoints, making use of very different experimental and theoretical approaches, were brought to bear on the subject and provided a stimulating and up-to-date account of the subject. Although the Institute was built around the invited lectures, many specific points were addressed in workshops which consisted of informal discussion groups which were organised by participants during the Institute. This volume therefore contains not only chapters based on the lectures but summaries of many of the workshops which adds considerably to the diversity of information presented. This Advanced Study Institute was the fifth in a series of NATO-sponsored institutes devoted to various aspects of the physics and chemistry of gas phase ions. These meetings have been held every four years since the first, held in Biarritz in 1974, considered "Interactions between Ions and Molecules". The five volumes which comprise the proceedings of these meetings illustrate very clearly the many advances in theory and experiment which have taken place over the last 20 years.

Book Synopsis State-Resolved Reaction Dynamics by :
Download or read book State-Resolved Reaction Dynamics written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reactions of state-selected ammonia cation with D2, D2O, and CD4 were studied using a guided-ion beam instrument. The influence of vibrational and collision energy on these reactions was investigated by measuring cross sections for reaction of (NH3)(+) created with varying degrees of excitation in the umbrella bending- and symmetric stretching-modes. A comparison of the product cross sections from (NH3)(+) created in two states of nearly identical internal energies, but different concerted atom motions indicated that none of these reactions is mode-selective. The state-to-state ion-molecule reaction (ND3)(+) + D2O -- (ND4)(+) + OD was investigated. Rotational distributions were determined for the fine-structure states of the OD product for the reaction of vibrationally excited reactant ion. We also studied the proton transfer channel for the reaction of (HBr)(+) with HBr. We developed two approaches exploiting optical laser sources to diagnose specific chemical species present in hostile environments In particular, cavity ring-down spectroscopy and two-photon light induced fluorescence were deployed to detect potential reactants present in a hot-filament chemical vapor deposition system used to grow diamond films. Finally, we used quadrupole mass spectrometry to detect the diatomic dications (BaX)(2+) (X=F, Cl, Br, I), (SrCl)(2+), (CaBr)(2+), and (MgBr)(2+).

Book Synopsis Dynamics of Ion-Molecule Complexes by : William L Hase
Download or read book Dynamics of Ion-Molecule Complexes written by William L Hase and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-07-29 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Classical Trajectory Methods, Volume 2: Dynamics of Ion-Molecule Complexes is a seven-chapter text that covers the considerable advances in the experimental and theoretical aspects of ion-molecular complexes, with particular emphasis on the dynamics and kinetics of their formation and ensuing unimolecular dissociation. This text also considers the development and testing of theoretical models for these formation and decomposition processes. The opening chapters discuss photoelectron photoion coincidence, ion cyclotron resonance, and crossed molecular beam studies of metastable ion-molecule complexes formed in ion-molecule collisions. These experimental studies involve comparisons with the predictions of statistical models, such as the Rice-Ramsperger-Kassel-Marcus and phase space theories, and comparisons with the reaction dynamics predicted by classical trajectory calculations. The succeeding chapter describes the double-well model for ion-molecular reactions taking place on a potential energy surface with a central barrier that separates two potential energy minima. These topics are followed by reviews of the quantum chemical calculation and reaction path Hamiltonian analysis of SN2 reactions, the transition state theory for ion-dipole and ion-quadrupole capture, and the capture and dynamical models for ion-molecule association to form a complex. The remaining chapters consider the temperature dependence of ion-molecule reactions, which proceed on a surface with many potential energy minima, specifically the ability to establish asymptotic limits for the reaction efficiency dependent upon the number of potential minima and the above relative probabilities. This book is of great value to experimental and theoretical chemists and physicists.
