This book was released on 2008-05-31 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This catalogue raisonné describes a little-known but very interesting collection originally assembled by one of the important Canadian collectors of the early 20th century. After an account of the collection's history and a brief discussion of the techniques of ancient glass-making, the catalogue proper presents 191 pieces comprising a very wide range of typical forms, each of them fully illustrated. Publishing this extensive collection renders it available to a wide readership: students, curators, archaeologists, art historians, collectors and everybody with serious interest in the material culture of the ancient world. It is the first of a series intended to make public the different parts of the museum's collection of Mediterranean antiquities.

Book Synopsis The nEU-Med project: Vetricella, an Early Medieval royal property on Tuscany’s Mediterranean by : Giovanna Bianchi
Download or read book The nEU-Med project: Vetricella, an Early Medieval royal property on Tuscany’s Mediterranean written by Giovanna Bianchi and published by All’Insegna del Giglio. This book was released on 2020-04-20 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nEU-Med project is part of the Horizon 2020 programme, in the ERC Advanced project category. It began in October 2015 and the University of Siena is the host institution of the project. The project is focussed upon two Tuscan riverine corridors leading from the Gulf of Follonica in the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Colline Metallifere. It aims to document and analyze the form and timeframe of economic growth in this part of the Mediterranean, which took place between the 7th and the 12thc. Central to this is an understanding of the processes of change in human settlements, in the natural and farming landscapes in relation to the exploitation of resources, and in the implementation of differing political strategies. This volume presents the multi-disciplinary research focussed upon the key site of the project, Vetricella, and its territory. Vetricella is thought to be the site of Valli, a royal property in the Tuscan march. It is the only Early Medieval property to be extensively studied in Italy. Located on Italy’s Tyrrhenian coast, the archaeology and history of this site provide new insights on estate management, metal production and wider Mediterranean relations in the later first millennium. Apart from reports on the archaeology, the finds from excavations and environmental studies, three essays consider the wider European historical and archaeological context of Vetricella. Future monographs will feature studies by members of the project team on aspects of Vetricella, its finds and territory.

Book Synopsis Le vitrail et les traités du Moyen Âge à nos jours by : Karine Boulanger
Download or read book Le vitrail et les traités du Moyen Âge à nos jours written by Karine Boulanger and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Cultural Heritage and Aerobiology by : Paolo Mandrioli
Download or read book Cultural Heritage and Aerobiology written by Paolo Mandrioli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerobiology is the science that studies the biological component of the atmosphere and its effects on living systems and on the environment. This term was used for the first time in 1935, but the attention of scientists to the biological component of the atmosphere goes back to 1769, when the Italian biologist Spallanzani carried out a series of experiments that disproved the concept of spontaneous generation of life and proved the presence of viable microorganisms in the air. Aerobiology has marked characteristics of interdisciplinarity: its application fields range from respiratory diseases to the airborne outbreak of animal and vegetal diseases and to the biodegradation of substances and materials. The latter is the subject of this book. The purpose of aerobiological research applied to the conservation of cultural heritage is to evaluate the risk of alteration by airborne microorganisms of materials forming artefacts of historical, artistic and archaeological interest. Airborne spores and vegetative structures may develop on different substrates and may be a cause of degradation, in relation to the types of materials, the microclimatic situation and the pollution of the conservation environments. The qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the biological component of air, performed by means of targeted analysis campaigns, and of the characteristics of materials and environments, supplies indispensable information for the evaluation of the actual risk and the planning of interventions. This book is divided into four main parts.

Download or read book Bodzia written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-11-27 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bodzia is one of the most fascinating archaeological discoveries of the post-war period in Poland. It is one of the few cemeteries in Poland from the time of the origins of the Polish state. The unique character of this discovery is mainly due to the fact that a small, elite population was buried there. The burials there included people whose origins were connected with the Slavic, Nomadic-Khazarian and Scandinavian milieus. For the first time the evidence from this area is given prominence. This book is designed mainly for readers outside Poland. The reader is offered a collection of chapters, combining analyses and syntheses of the source material, and a discussion of its etno-cultural and political significance. The authors formulate new hypotheses and ideas, which put the discoveries in a broader European context. Contributors are Wiesław Bogdanowicz, Mateusz Bogucki, Andrzej Buko, Magdalena M. Buś, Maria Dekówna, Alicja Drozd-Lipińska, Władysław Duczko, Karin Margarita Frei, Tomasz Goslar, Tomasz Grzybowski, Zdzisław Hensel, Iwona Hildebrandt-Radke, Michał Kara, Joanna Koszałka, Anna B.
