Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reading Blue Coat School was opened in 1660 to teach twenty 'children of honest poore men', according to the bequest of merchant Richard Aldworth. Despite his and subsequent bequests, the school was initially housed in a dilapidated former inn, and it was a constant struggle to make ends meet and keep the school open. In the mid-nineteenth century the perseverance of the school was rewarded with a new home, 42 Bath Road, and the school began to thrive, with entrance examinations, new subjects, and day boys. The world wars and the inadequacies of the site for a growing school posed new challenges, culminating with the threat of closure if the school didn't meet the government's new criteria in 1944. But the school emerged in triumph with the move to Holme Park. Here the school has grown, offering more facilities and opportunities for pupils, ever raising standards, and creating a sixth form. While one may struggle to see a link between twenty blue-coated boys in an old inn and Reading Blue Coat School today, this history shows how the school has conquered every difficulty to continue to fulfil Aldworth's aim of creating 'good citizens'.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever heard a line in a song that took your breath away? Or been reduced to tears by a deeply significant phrase in a movie? Have you ever heard a 'simple truth' that resonates perfectly with you? In The Power of the Second Question, psychologist Chris Skellett reveals how you can learn to harness the power of personal reflection to capture your 'simple truths' about the world. You will be encouraged to lift yourself up from the routines of everyday thinking and take time to consider what life is all about for you. Each concise chapter suggests ideas, gives examples and reviews the importance of personal insight. You are then invited to reflect upon your own wisdom in key areas of your life and to consolidate what you have learned from life so far. At the end of the process, you will have developed a much broader appreciation of who you are and what you have learned along life's journey.

Book excerpt: The Judges and Lawyer's Companion' is a must have and useful tool in the hands of Judges and Lawyers and in deed any one delivering a decision making role formally and informally. This book aims to reduce the valuable time lawyers at the bar and judicial officers on the bench spend looking for the meaning of Latin maxims. Law students seeking quick interpretation and dictionary meaning of Latin maxims will also benefit immensely. I have decided to compile this companion as a reference guide at a glance and I hope this piece of work will find its place on the book shelf of every Judge and Lawyer around the world. The author has carefully illustrated the meaning of each maxim using case authorities wherever possible in court ruling around the world. This book is a linguistic treasure, a robust companion with engaging collection puts revered proverbs at reader's fingertips.
