Book Synopsis The I-9 and E-Verify Handbook by : Greg Siskind
Download or read book The I-9 and E-Verify Handbook written by Greg Siskind and published by Alan House Publishing. This book was released on 2024-05-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the last edition of this book 61/2 years ago, worksite enforcement has surged at both federal and state levels. By 2024, 26 states have enacted employer sanctions laws, with nine mandating E-Verify for all eligible employers and 12 requiring it for contractors engaged in state or local government projects. Other states have implemented immigration laws pertaining to employers, some without E-Verify requirements. Companies now face severe penalties, such as license revocation and contract denial, if found hiring unauthorized workers. The enforcement of employer sanctions and anti-discrimination regulations under the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) falls under the jurisdiction of two agencies: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Immigrant and Employee Rights Section of the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice. Compliance with these regulations is mandatory for employers. However, navigating these laws has become increasingly intricate for today's employers, with further complexity anticipated. The I-9 and E-Verify Handbook aims to streamline this convoluted process, aiding human resource professionals, immigration advisors, and others in guiding employers through these challenging immigration regulations. The authors, Bruce E. Buchanan and Greg Siskind, discuss the array of statutes and regulations in an easy-to-understand, question-and-answer format with straightforward illustrations, flowcharts, checklists, and sample documents designed to help implement and improve an employer's immigration compliance program.

Book Synopsis Discrimination Law by : Sandra Fredman FBA KC
Download or read book Discrimination Law written by Sandra Fredman FBA KC and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-11-28 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a challenging, thought-provoking yet highly accessible introduction to discrimination law. It takes a thematic approach, illuminating the major issues in discrimination law, while imparting an in-depth understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of legal responses to complex social problems of inequality. This is enhanced by the comparative approach. By considering equality law in the UK, US, India, Canada, and South Africa, as well as the European Union and under the European Convention on Human Rights, the book exposes common problems across different jurisdictions and canvasses a variety of differing solutions. As in the highly successful previous editions, the book locates discrimination law within its historical and social context. One of its major strengths is the development of an analytic framework of substantive equality, drawing on a range of sources, and the author's wide experience of equality law in many jurisdictions. As well as chapters charting the social challenges and legal responses, the book compares the ways in which different jurisdictions formulate grounds of discrimination or protected characteristics; the meaning of key concepts such as direct discrimination (disparate treatment); indirect discrimination (disparate impact); and when limitations on equality are legitimate. Later chapters test these concepts in some of the most challenging contexts: pregnancy and parenting, equal pay, reasonable accommodation, and sexual harassment; as well as to the particularly controversial issue of affirmative action or deliberate preference policies. Discussing at length how racisms, sexism, LGBTQ+ rights, and other topics impact these contexts. The final chapter asks how the right to equality can be made more effective, critically assessing the paradigm individual complaints model, and possible alternatives, from class actions and strategic litigation to mainstreaming and positive duties to promote equality.

Book excerpt: Amidst the significant societal changes defining our time, the interplay between human rights, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility has become a global concern. These crucial elements have become a focal point in global discussions, demanding in-depth exploration. Issues such as the impact of business decisions on human rights, the rights of marginalized communities, and the formulation of policies for sustainability and social well-being underscore the urgency of understanding this intricate relationship. It is within this context that Bridging Human Rights and Corporate Social Responsibility: Pathways to a Sustainable Global Society is a vital resource. This book, drawing insights from law, social sciences, economics, and environmental studies, delves into the heart of these challenges, offering a comprehensive analysis that addresses the ethical and sustainable dimensions of our rapidly changing global landscape. To undertake a profound examination of the complex interplay between human rights, sustainability, and social responsibility, the book proposes an interdisciplinary methodology that incorporates insights from various academic disciplines, including law, social sciences, economics, and environmental studies. It seeks to shed light on the essential role of human rights in supporting sustainable development and socially responsible behavior in societies undergoing rapid change. This study includes an in-depth examination of the rights of marginalized communities, an analysis of the impact of business on the preservation or violation of human rights, and an exploration of policy and legal frameworks that can simultaneously promote sustainability and enhance social well-being. The overarching goal is to provide a comprehensive framework for academics and experts in human rights, environmental science, public policy, and corporate social responsibility, making a significant contribution to the integration of diverse academic disciplines and fostering interdisciplinary inquiry and collaboration.
