Book excerpt: The first book in a three part series Vengeful Nature is a engaging story of three friends who learn life is not all that glitters. The book follows the breakup of a long time friendship in search of a greater walk through life and the people who influence thier every move and teach them tough lessons we all must learn. This book captures the heart warming story of three women and the men who love them. There is Marilyn whose husband has left her for another man. Melinda whose tragic life includes a violent sister she never knew and is out to get her at all costs. And lastly there is Melanie whose vivacious nature and wild ways get her in trouble with her white husband, the only man she has ever loved and known to stick by her even though she has four kids with all different daddies. The highs and lows in this story will keep you on your toes and wonder, in the end, exactly what life is all about! The tagret audience is for the African American community male or female who enjoys reading about the suffering we continuously live through. It's not enough that on a daily basis that women must deal with work, children, husbands, and families; but they must must also deal with being women. This book touches on the understanding that this is a book you can relate to on a deeper level, with useful information on how to deal with those issuses told to them in often comedic ways. But with the hope that things do get better and there is a world of love out there waiting for them. My male audience will be refreshed to know that although there are some common male issues dealt with in this book, that nothing is too great to overcome and that the 'good guy' often does win. My gay and lesbian audience will be thrilled that I have adressed certain aspects that they deal with on a daily basis also. I have brought into play the often sneaking and low down men and ignorant prejeduice from both sides they have to get used to in order to find good mates of their own. I believe this one book series will change the lives of all who read it and let people out there know that they are not alone!

Book excerpt: American Revenge Narratives critically examines the nation’s vengeful storytelling tradition. With essays on late twentieth and twenty-first century fiction, film, and television, it maps the coordinates of the revenge genre’s contemporary reinvention across American culture. By surveying American revenge narratives, this book measures how contemporary payback plots appraise the nation’s political, social, and economic inequities. The volume’s essays collectively make the case that retribution is a defining theme of post-war American culture and an artistic vehicle for critique. In another sense, this book presents a scholarly coming to terms with the nation’s love for vengeance. By investigating recent iterations of an ancient genre, contributors explore how the revenge narrative evolves and thrives within American literary and filmic imagination. Taken together, the book’s diverse chapters attempt to understand American culture’s seemingly inexhaustible production of vengeful tales.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For thousands of years, people have used nature to justify their political, moral, and social judgments. Such appeals to the moral authority of nature are still very much with us today, as heated debates over genetically modified organisms and human cloning testify. The Moral Authority of Nature offers a wide-ranging account of how people have used nature to think about what counts as good, beautiful, just, or valuable. The eighteen essays cover a diverse array of topics, including the connection of cosmic and human orders in ancient Greece, medieval notions of sexual disorder, early modern contexts for categorizing individuals and judging acts as "against nature," race and the origin of humans, ecological economics, and radical feminism. The essays also range widely in time and place, from archaic Greece to early twentieth-century China, medieval Europe to contemporary America. Scholars from a wide variety of fields will welcome The Moral Authority of Nature, which provides the first sustained historical survey of its topic. Psychologist Michael McCullough argues that the key to a more forgiving, less vengeful world is to understand the evolutionary forces that gave rise to these intimately human instincts and the social forces that activate them in human minds today. Drawing on exciting breakthroughs from the social and biological sciences, McCullough dispenses surprising and practical advice for making the world a more forgiving place. Michael E. McCullough (Miami, Florida), an internationally recognized expert on forgiveness and revenge, is a professor of psychology at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where he directs the Laboratory for Social and Clinical Psychology.
