Book Synopsis Les offrandes végétales dans l'Ancien Testament by : Alfred Marx
Download or read book Les offrandes végétales dans l'Ancien Testament written by Alfred Marx and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present monograph is the first, since 1848, to be entirely devoted to the study of the cereal offerings. Its purpose is to attract attention to a form of sacrifice which was largely neglected and solely considered as an appendix to the animal sacrifice. The study of their substance, ritual and the circumstances in which the cereal offerings are brought to God demonstrates their great complexity as well as their specific function. His vegetarian utopia has led P to give the cereal offerings a prominent place among the sacrifices. A similar appreciation of the cereal offerings is also found among the Essenes, and, finally, in the Christian Last Supper.

Sidebars bring to light unfamiliar holidays, as well as interesting facts and cooking tips.
Book Synopsis Consumable Metaphors by : Ceri Crossley
Download or read book Consumable Metaphors written by Ceri Crossley and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2005 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies the various definitions of animal nature proposed by nineteenth-century currents of thought in France. It is based on an examination of a number of key thinkers and writers, some well known (for example, Michelet and Lamartine), others largely forgotten (for example, Gleizes and Reynaud). At the centre of the book lies the idea that knowledge of animals is often knowledge of something else, that the primary referentiality is overlaid with additional levels of meaning. In nineteenth-century France thinking about animals (their future and their past) became a way of thinking about power relations in society, for example about the status of women and the problem of the labouring classes. This book analyses how animals as symbols externalize and mythologize human fears and wishes, but it also demonstrates that animals have an existence in and for themselves and are not simply useful counters functioning within discourse.

Book Synopsis French Phrases Vol.1 by : Nik Marcel
Download or read book French Phrases Vol.1 written by Nik Marcel and published by 2Language Books. This book was released on 2015-07-23 with total page 1121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: French Phrases Vol.1: English & French THIS EDITION: French Phrases seeks to bridge the gap between knowing individual words and knowing how to create or understand sentences. Sentences are phrases or a combination of phrases, and phrases are a combination of words. The simplest phrases are the simplest ways of combining words. Exposure to a wide variety of phrases, especially in increasing complexity, provides the basis for obtaining a solid grasp of a new language. The reason being, phrases can be combined with other phrases to create endless possibilities in language. French Phrases contains a wide variety of phrases, but it also demonstrates how phrases can increase in complexity – through the inclusion of individual words or other phrases. The reader can choose between four formats: Section 1: English to French Section 2: French to English Section 3: English Section 4: French The text can be used to obtain a fundamental grasp of French grammar. An understanding of the rules that underpin the way words combine into phrases, or phrases combine into sentences, allows the language learner to expand their capacity exponentially simply by increasing vocabulary. With this in mind, the text includes an introductory section summarising the important aspects of French grammar. The dual-language text has been arranged for quick and easy cross-referencing. The text can be used on its own. However, the content is ideal for reinforcing and expanding on a basic grasp of the language. With an increasingly robust grasp of the language, the language learner can easily and fruitfully move on to more advanced bilingual text — like in 2Language Books editions —, or suitable French only text: a simple novel, a French news website, etc. Many basic language books offer some form of audio support. Internet services — primarily news based radio stations — offer podcasts. Audio from television is an additional resource, and can be formatted for use on various digital platforms. However, if audio is an important component of your interest in languages, electronic devices that support quality text-to-speech (TTS) will likely be appealing. With a library card, TTS technology (in a device that supports the relevant content), and the above mentioned resources (as digital content), an entire language learning system is available for not much more than a cup of coffee! There is no substantial financial outlay to get you started. Furthermore, there are no additional ongoing fees (and updates), and there are no expiry dates on ‘premium’ content and resources. Book Synopsis Cultural Encyclopedia of Vegetarianism by : Margaret Puskar-Pasewicz
Download or read book Cultural Encyclopedia of Vegetarianism written by Margaret Puskar-Pasewicz and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2010-09-16 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intended for students, general readers, vegetarians, and vegans, as well as those interested in animal welfare and liberation, this A–Z encyclopedia explores the historical and cultural significance of vegetarianism in the United States and beyond. Vegetarianism in the United States did not start in the 1960s—it has a much longer, complex history going back to the early 1800s. Cultural Encyclopedia of Vegetarianism examines that history through the lens of culture, focusing on what vegetarianism has had to say to and about Americans. This A–Z encyclopedia brings together the work of a number of scholars from diverse fields, including history, sociology, philosophy, religious studies, anthropology, nutrition, American studies, religious studies, women's and gender history, and the history of medicine. Approximately 100 essay entries cover cultural and historical aspects of vegetarianism, primarily but not exclusively in relation to the United States, shedding light on the practice's roots in ancient cultures and challenging popular myths and misconceptions related to both vegetarianism and veganism. With discussions on everything from activist movements to cookbooks, the encyclopedia offers a unique, wide-ranging exploration that will appeal to students, practitioners, and anyone else who wants to know more.

Book Synopsis The Phonetic Guide to French by : Matthew Lawry
Download or read book The Phonetic Guide to French written by Matthew Lawry and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-04-05 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about learning the phrases and sentences and getting to grips with saying the language, without going into the grammar first. In that way you can have fun in learning how to say certain things and also you do not come up against stumbling blocks and frustrations. The idea behind this thinking was because when I was a child my parents used to tell me words before they taught me how to do the alphabet, so I thought that was a better way round; get used to the language first. I wrote this book to how I thought the student of the language could assimilate and understand it and get a basic grounding of the language. I thought to myself, what was the best thing to learn first, for instance; what the difference between masculine and feminine; what does the accent mean, so I put this information in the chapter header pages so then I could use more space to actually learning the language. I have also put in a conceptual stage so then you can think about the language for instance. English has quite a few routes to it, like Latin; so quite a few words are very similar, even though the accent can throw us off. It sounds like proper English for instance; catgorie which means category in French which is nearly the same in English. I believe there is no right or wrong way to learn; it depends on what you want it for; you may want to practise it on holiday or you may want to read the French newspapers, so sometimes you do not necessarily have to learn the alphabet or the grammar. I like to read newspapers on holiday and watch films in French; that is why I wanted to learn it. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have in writing it.
