Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for this treatise on the radiological anatomy of superficial and deep spinal cord vasculature evolved from daily routine neuroradiological work. This was also the reason for subdividing the monograph into a postmortem anatomical and a clinical part. The actual importance of a clear conception of radio anatomic fundamentals was made clear by many clinical conferences with neurologists, neurosurgeons and orthopedists, where a lack of knowledge about medullary syndromes of suspected vascular origin became evident. Also among neuroradiologists there is still widespread uncertainty in the interpretation of myelograms and angiographies in such cases. A study of the spinal cord's angioarchitecture is all the more justified and necessary considering the vast number of descriptions of cerebro vascular anatomy and pathology. The clinical challenge posed by patients suffering from partial or complete transverse spinal lesions has grown due to new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Myelography using water-soluble contrast media, X-ray computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and spinal angiography today allow and require both earlier and topographically and pathogenetically more exact classification of diseases of the spinal cord and its surrounding structures. Due to progress in microneurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology, even intramedullary lesions have become more and more accessible and treatable. Therefore this monograph mainly addresses those concerned with invasive therapeutic techniques and who are familiar with the interpretation of radio anatomic findings. A comprehensive description of medullary vascular syndromes would be beyond the scope of this treatise.

Book Synopsis Vascular Anatomy of the Spinal Cord by : Armin K. Thron
Download or read book Vascular Anatomy of the Spinal Cord written by Armin K. Thron and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-07 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book systematically describes the angioarchitecture of the spinal cord. Microradiographs of superficial and intrinsic arterial supply and venous drainage patterns provide the anatomical basis needed to understand spinal vascular disorders. These post mortem studies are supplemented by clinical spinal angiographies and case studies. Rapid advances in imaging technology have facilitated the solution of many diagnostic problems concerning diseases of the spine and spinal cord. But this is less true for vascular diseases of the spinal cord or diseases secondarily involving them. Furthermore, safely using interventional procedures or open surgery still requires a profound knowledge of the vascular anatomy involved. Accordingly, a growing demand for training in this special field has become evident over the last 25 years, making improvement of this knowledge in all Neuro-Specialities dealing with diagnostic and therapeutic problems of spinal disorders a highly desirable goal.
Book Synopsis Surgical Neuroangiography by : Pierre Lasjaunias
Download or read book Surgical Neuroangiography written by Pierre Lasjaunias and published by Springer. This book was released on 1990-09-20 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will be helpful to professionals who use the vascular system of the spine, spinal cord, and brain in their practice and in their search for better understanding, reliability, and safety in their decisions and actions by providing a new conceptual approach to the vascular supply to the brain spine and spinal cord. Statements such as "the median cerebral artery is a branch of the anterior cerebral artery" or "the internal carotid and vertebral arteries are minor vessels, they can be absent. They represent the most common distribution pattern to the arterial circle at the base of the brain, but certainly not the only one" show that the authors are far from providing the traditional presentation of the arterial system in man.
Book Synopsis The blood supply of the vertebral column and spinal cord in man by : H.V. Crock
Download or read book The blood supply of the vertebral column and spinal cord in man written by H.V. Crock and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written in an attempt to fill a serious gap in medieal literature. A coneise anatomieal text, incorporating an atlas of the vaseular anatomy of the vertebral column and spinal cord, it has been designed to suit the needs of ort ho pedie surgeons, neurosurgeons, and neurologists. We also fee! that this work will he!p give direetion to further studies on the morphology and physiology of spinal eirculation. The book begins with a diseussion of the origins of the arteries whieh supply the vertebral eolumn. It eontinues with adescription of the various regions of the spine, the eervieal, thoraeie, and lumbar, and of the arteries which supply the meninges and spinal cord, the veins of the verte bral column, and venous and arterial distribution within the spinal cord. Anatomie studies of the eireulation both in bones and in the spinal cord require the use of teehniques whieh are erude and time consuming. Essential to sueeess is aecess to fresh postmortem human bodies, so that injeetions into the vaseular systems may be attempted before any disseetion has been made in the course of the routine pathologie examination. Permission to pursue these partieular anatomie studies eannot be obtained as a matter of routine. Beeause of the restrieted availability of speeimens therefore, only random sam pIes can be obtained.

Book Synopsis Surgical Neuroangiography by : Alejandro Berenstein
Download or read book Surgical Neuroangiography written by Alejandro Berenstein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Volume 5 of Surgical Neuroangiography we will discuss indications and approaches for endovascular treatment of disorders affecting the spine and spinal cord circulations. Our approach is similar to those discussed in volume 2 and 4, it requires integration of knowledge concerning functional vascular anatomy, lesion angioarchitecture, and the relationship between normal and pathological circulations. In AVMs these features are considered as they relate to the clinical presen tation, progression, and natural history of the lesion. All these factors must then be combined with an understanding of technical capabilities to for mulate a pretherapeutic plan designed to favorably affect the long term out come in the individual patient. Endovascular surgery of spinal cord AVMs has become the treatment of choice, while microsurgery is reserved for those cases where embolization fails. Endovascular surgery may be the sole form of treatment, or may be combined with other therapeutic modalities including surgery, chemothera py, or radiation in cases of neoplasms, or may be palliative, to decrease pain or spinal cord compression. As in all other areas a multidisciplinary ap proach is essential for decision making to best accomplish the desired ob jectives.
Book Synopsis Atlas of Vascular Anatomy by : Renan Uflacker
Download or read book Atlas of Vascular Anatomy written by Renan Uflacker and published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. This book was released on 2007 with total page 934 pages. Book Synopsis Surgical Neuroangiography by : Pierre Lasjaunias
Download or read book Surgical Neuroangiography written by Pierre Lasjaunias and published by Springer. This book was released on 1986-12-01 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Embolization has been performed in many European countries and in North America for over 20 years and is now beginning to gain accep tance in other countries. At first, experience with these techniques was shared in the form of individual case reports; today some centers have treated enough patients to be able to transform this anecdotal material into more concrete data. For the last 10 of these 20 years, the two of us have been deeply involved, encouraged, and stimulated by the interest created by the few pioneers in endovascular techniques. In 1978, when we first met, our discussion on embolization could have been summarized as disagreement. It soon became obvious that these differences were primarily related to our different individual back grounds. One of us having a strong orientation toward anatomy, and the other toward technique. We realized that these apparently opposing approaches complement each other and decided to combine them to our mutual benefit. This collaboration has matured into the search for improvements in patient care and for the safest, most reliable, and most responsible manner of treatment.
