Book Synopsis Modern Nuclear Physics by : Alexandre Obertelli
Download or read book Modern Nuclear Physics written by Alexandre Obertelli and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-25 with total page 739 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is a unique and ambitious primer of nuclear physics, which introduces recent theoretical and experimental progresses starting from basics in fundamental quantum mechanics. The highlight is to offer an overview of nuclear structure phenomena relevant to recent key findings such as unstable halo nuclei, superheavy elements, neutron stars, nucleosynthesis, the standard model, lattice quantum chromodynamics (LQCD), and chiral effective theory. An additional attraction is that general properties of nuclei are comprehensively explained from both the theoretical and experimental viewpoints. The book begins with the conceptual and mathematical basics of quantum mechanics, and goes into the main point of nuclear physics – nuclear structure, radioactive ion beam physics, and nuclear reactions. The last chapters devote interdisciplinary topics in association with astrophysics and particle physics. A number of illustrations and exercises with complete solutions are given. Each chapter is comprehensively written starting from fundamentals to gradually reach modern aspects of nuclear physics with the objective to provide an effective description of the cutting edge in the field.

Book Synopsis Markov Random Fields for Vision and Image Processing by : Andrew Blake
Download or read book Markov Random Fields for Vision and Image Processing written by Andrew Blake and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2011-07-22 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: State-of-the-art research on MRFs, successful MRF applications, and advanced topics for future study. This volume demonstrates the power of the Markov random field (MRF) in vision, treating the MRF both as a tool for modeling image data and, utilizing recently developed algorithms, as a means of making inferences about images. These inferences concern underlying image and scene structure as well as solutions to such problems as image reconstruction, image segmentation, 3D vision, and object labeling. It offers key findings and state-of-the-art research on both algorithms and applications. After an introduction to the fundamental concepts used in MRFs, the book reviews some of the main algorithms for performing inference with MRFs; presents successful applications of MRFs, including segmentation, super-resolution, and image restoration, along with a comparison of various optimization methods; discusses advanced algorithmic topics; addresses limitations of the strong locality assumptions in the MRFs discussed in earlier chapters; and showcases applications that use MRFs in more complex ways, as components in bigger systems or with multiterm energy functions. The book will be an essential guide to current research on these powerful mathematical tools.

Book Synopsis Condensed Matter Theories by : Lesser Blum
Download or read book Condensed Matter Theories written by Lesser Blum and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The XVI International Workshop on Condensed Matter Theories (CMT) was held in San Juan. Puerto Rico between June 1 and 5, 1992. It was attended by about 80 scientists from allover the world. The Workshop was started in 1977 by V. C. Aguilera-Navarro, in Sao Paolo, Brazil, as the Panamerican Workshop on Condensed Matter Theories, to promote the exchange of ideas and techniques of groups that normally do not interact, such as people working in the areas of Nuclear Physics and Solid state Physics, Many Body Theory, or Quantum Fluids, and Classical Statistical Mechanics, and so on. It had also the purpose of bringing together people from different regions of the globe. The next CMT Workshop was held in 1978 in Trieste, Italy, outside of America. But the next four met in the American continent: Buenos Aires, Argentina (1979), Caracas, Venezuela (1980), Mexico City, Mexico (1981), and St. Louis, Missouri (1982). At this time the scope and the participation had increased, and the name was changed to the "International" Workshop in CMT. The 1983 edition took place in Altenberg, Germany. The following CMT workshops took place in Granada, Spain (1984), San Francisco, California (1985), Argonne, Illinois (1986), Oulu, Finland (1987), Taxco, Mexico (1988), Campos do Jordao, Brazil (1989), Elba Island, Italy (1990), and Mar del Plata, Argentina (1991). There were 48 invited talks in this Workshop.
Book Synopsis The Standard Model Higgs Boson by : M.B. Einhorn
Download or read book The Standard Model Higgs Boson written by M.B. Einhorn and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Standard Model of electroweak and strong interactions contains a scalar field which permeates all of space and matter, and whose properties provide the explanation of the origin of the masses. Commonly referred to as the Higgs field, it assumes in the physical vacuum a non-vanishing classical expectation value to which the masses of not only the vector bosons, but all the other known fundamental particles (quarks and leptons) are proportional. This volume presents a concise summary of the phenomenological properties of the Higgs boson.

Book Synopsis Nonperturbative Methods In Quantum Field Theory - Proceedings Of The Workshop by : Andreas W Schreiber
Download or read book Nonperturbative Methods In Quantum Field Theory - Proceedings Of The Workshop written by Andreas W Schreiber and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-01-15 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of the Workshop on Nonperturbative Methods in Quantum Field Theory, held in Adelaide, Australia, in February 1998. Lattice gauge theory and calculations based on the use of Schwinger-Dyson equations feature prominently, with further contributions in the areas of variational and functional techniques, strong interaction phenomenology and chiral perturbation theory. QCD in the infrared regime as well as QCD at finite temperatures and densities is the subject matter of a number of papers, while other authors explore chiral symmetry breaking in QCD as well as in other field theories.
