Book Synopsis Valley Experiences with Mountaintop Blessings by : Rev. Dr. Walter L. Johnson
Download or read book Valley Experiences with Mountaintop Blessings written by Rev. Dr. Walter L. Johnson and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-10-20 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book depicts my life traveling from childhood to adulthood. Because of my humbled spirit during my valley experiences, I received mountaintop blessings. My life is a living testimony that the goals that you set in life are achievable when you put God first in all that you do and maintain a positive attitude. The Bible teaches us that you become what you think of yourself. If you think negatively, you will not put forth the effort to become great. The Bible says, "So as a man thinks in his heart, so is he." God has used me as an instrument to help individuals in the church and in the community to recognize that with God in your life, you can be blessed abundantly. The late president John F. Kennedy said, "Think not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." It is within the image and likeness of Christ not to think so much about one's self but to think about how you can help someone else. When you work to help others, God will bless you in the process. My inspiration for writing this book is to help individuals recognize that the goals they set in life are achievable with Christ in their lives. There are so many people without goals in life, and they are drifting with the tides of society. My advice to humanity is, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all other things will be added unto you." Set your goals, stay on course, and make the sacrifices to accomplish your goals. I pray that this book will inspire those who read it and humble their spirits by allowing God to guide their footprints here on earth. It is important to realize that with God in your life, all things are possible.
Book Synopsis Value in the Valley by : Iyanla Vanzant
Download or read book Value in the Valley written by Iyanla Vanzant and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2002-05-23 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The most powerful spiritual healer, fixer, teacher on the planet.” —Oprah Winfrey Is it the job you hate but need in order to pay the rent? Is it that relationship that you gave your all to only to end up with a broken heart...again? Perhaps it's your children, a family member, or a life-long friend doing you in, dragging you down, pushing you to the brink. If you are an honorary member of the Black Woman's Suffering Society, you have probably been told that it's all your fault. Or that struggling and suffering is your lot in life. Iyanla Vanzant says, No! Life is an Act of Faith and suffering is optional! Those everyday challenges, obstacles, and dilemmas are what Iyanla calls "valleys." As bad as they may seem, there is a purpose or, as Iyanla says, "There is so much value in the valley." If you've ever been disappointed, betrayed, rejected, abandoned, or just plain old scared to let go, then you've been or may still be in a valley. Iyanla knows—she's been there and on a bad day she's still there, but now she shares the way out with you.
Download or read book Valley Walls written by Glen Denny and published by Yosemite Conservancy. This book was released on 2016-05-10 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Half a century ago a rag-tag group of innovators was building a foundation for modern American rock climbing from a makeshift home base in Yosemite. Photographer Glen Denny was a key figure in this golden age of climbing, capturing pioneering feats on camera while tackling challenging ascents himself. In entertaining short pieces enlivened by his iconic black-and-white images of Yosemite's big wall legends, Denny reveals a young man's coming of age and provides a vivid look at Yosemite’s early climbing culture. He relates such precarious achievements as hauling water in glass gallon jugs up the east face of Washington Column, nailing the 750-foot Rostrum in a punishing heat wave, and dangling overnight on El Capitan’s Dihedral Wall in a lightning storm. Each true tale captures the spirit of historic Camp 4, where Denny and others plan the next big climb while living on the cheap and dodging park rangers.

Book excerpt: "For fans of Ian McGuire's The North Water and Michael Punke's The Revenant, Child in the Valley by Gordy Sauer is a coming-of-age story set in the harsh landscape of Gold Rush America, centering on a orphan's journey to California in a wagon train of ruthless 49ers. Seventeen-year-old Joshua Gaines is suddenly orphaned in 1849, and after discovering that his foster father has left him deeply in debt, he flees his St. Louis home for Independence, Missouri. There, he plans to offer his medical expertise in exchange for passage to California in a Gold Rush party. Joshua is initially rebuffed given his youth and inexperience, but as his resentment and greed grow, a chance encounter with a ruthless adventurer and an ex-slave enlists him in a party comprised of provincial identical twins and a wealthy Englishman. The party departs overland along a 1,500-mile trail carved out by hardship, disease, violence, and death. When finally they arrive starving and exhausted in California's Sacramento Valley, Joshua discovers that attaining those riches is not as simple as pulling them from the riverbed, forcing him to redefine his sense of morality within the context of his greed; his complex sexuality; and the growing, though still-fledgling, American government. This novel is part of the Cold Mountain Fund Series, in partnership with Charles Frazier"--

Book Synopsis Living the Food-Allergic Life by : Mark S. Ferrara
Download or read book Living the Food-Allergic Life written by Mark S. Ferrara and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2023-05-29 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you had an allergy so severe that accidentally eating a forbidden food could kill you in minutes--as you gasp for breath, your throat and tongue swell shut, your blood pressure drops and organs fail--how would it change your life, and your relationship to food? For people with food-induced anaphylaxis, the severest form of allergic response, simply eating in restaurants, accepting invitations to dinner, going on overnight field trips, or traveling through foreign countries means facing one's mortality with every meal. In this book, Mark S. Ferrara weaves history, science, and psychology to recount the story of his struggles with allergic asthma and a life-threatening allergy to nuts--and his difficulties living and working in the Far East and Near East--to show how the quest for self-actualization can lead to an acceptance of transience that borders on the mystical. Along the way, he guides parents in keeping food-allergic children safe at home and at school and offers strategies that adolescents and adults may use to negotiate social spaces involving food. He explains how survivors of anaphylaxis can cope with the sometimes-irrational fears of food that follow that traumatic experience, so they may live happy, healthy, meaningful lives.
