Book excerpt: A Date With Her Valentine Doc - Melanie Milburne Dr Matt Bishop might inspire some seriously X-rated thoughts but, as my new boss, he's 100% off-limits! And he definitely can't find out about my being jilted at the altar. I must remain calm, aloof and professional despite these sparks flying around! But Valentine's Day is nearly here - what's the harm in just one kiss? The Proposal Plan - Charlotte Phillips Lucy Telford knows all about heartache (her teenage crush on friend Gabriel Blake was a crash course in unrequited love) but these days, she's determined to make her own happy ending. If her boyfriend won't get down on one knee, she'll just have to ask him herself! Step one is enlisting Gabriel's help - as an absolute woman-magnet, surely he can give her some tips on becoming irresistible? But Lucy's perfect plan goes awry when she starts wondering if she's asking the right man to walk her down the aisle... Fortune's Perfect Valentine - Stella Bagwell Wes Robinson may be part of the lost Fortune family, but he's more concerned with the fortunes of Robinson Tech. On Valentine's Day, his company will be rolling out a new computer app that will - allegedly - fix users up with their ideal mate. Wes has nothing against amour; he just has no faith in the perfect, lasting kind. He'll take a passionate fling anyday. Tell that to Vivian Blair, however. Wes's longtime employee with the earnest heart has complete faith that her app will work. So when she and Wes are challenged to use My Perfect Match themselves, it's game on. What follows is a series of dating debacles - and Viv's horrifying suspicion that her Mr Right might be her curmudgeonly boss in the cubicle next door... The Unforgettable Spanish Tycoon - Christy McKellen Once Elena Jones had shared an intense entanglement with striking Spaniard Caleb Araya, ending with both their hearts in tatters. Now she's a successful entrepreneur, and when he rejects a new business proposition, it's clear Caleb hasn't forgotten... When an accident causes the tycoon to lose his memory, Caleb seems to think they are still a couple! Elena wants to help him recover...but will staying in Barcelona with him just put her heart in jeopardy again?

Book excerpt: ‘KUMBA AFRICA’, is a compilation of African Short Stories written as fiction by Sampson Ejike Odum, nostalgically taking our memory back several thousands of years ago in Africa, reminding us about our past heritage. It digs deep into the traditional life style of the Africans of old, their beliefs, their leadership, their courage, their culture, their wars, their defeat and their victories long before the emergence of the white man on the soil of Africa. As a talented writer of rich resource and superior creativity, armed with in-depth knowledge of different cultures and traditions in Africa, the Author throws light on the rich cultural heritage of the people of Africa when civilization was yet unknown to the people. The book reminds the readers that the Africans of old kept their pride and still enjoyed their own lives. They celebrated victories when wars were won, enjoyed their New yam festivals and villages engaged themselves in seasonal wrestling contest etc; Early morning during harmattan season, they gathered firewood and made fire inside their small huts to hit up their bodies from the chilling cold of the harmattan. That was the Africa of old we will always remember. In Africa today, the story have changed. The people now enjoy civilized cultures made possible by the influence of the white man through his scientific and technological process. Yet there are some uncivilized places in Africa whose people haven’t tested or felt the impact of civilization. These people still maintain their ancient traditions and culture. In everything, we believe that days when people paraded barefooted in Africa to the swarmp to tap palm wine and fetch firewood from there farms are almost fading away. The huts are now gradually been replaced with houses built of blocks and beautiful roofs. Thanks to modern civilization. Donkeys and camels are no longer used for carrying heavy loads for merchants. They are now been replaced by heavy trucks and lorries. African traditional methods of healing are now been substituted by hospitals. In all these, I will always love and remember Africa, the home of my birth and must respect her cultures and traditions as an AFRICAN AUTHOR.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Turning away from the hard angles and edges of conventional modernism, bliobjects are the design of now, and the future. Blobjects & Beyond is the first survey of the explosion of amorphic, organic, and curvaceous design. A formless from with roots in Surrealism and the kidney-shaped motifs of the 1950s, the ever more biological blobject has come into its own, embodying and reflecting the new international ethos of fluidity." "Authors Steven Skov Holt and Mara Holt Skov - curators of a major exhibition of blobjects at the San Jose Museum of Art - and contributors Phil Patton and Bruce Sterling, parse the various manifestations of the blobject, bringing together the realms of art, architecture, industrial design, graphics, digital design, furniture, and pop culture. As a counterpoint to the effusive popularity of the blobject, the authors also address more recent, post-9/11 forms that are mutated and disturbed, dangerous and intimidating - the dark side of the blobject." "A manifesto for fluidity across disciplines, cultures, and international boundaries, Blobjects & Beyond documents the first major design language to bridge the last millennium with the new one."--BOOK JACKET.

Book excerpt: Every path to adulthood is strewn with missteps, epiphanies, and hard-earned lessons. Only Reggie Love’s, however, went through the White House by way of Duke University’s Cameron Indoor Stadium. Mentored by both Coach Krzyzewski and President Obama, Love shares universal insights learned in unique circumstances, an education in how sports, politics, and life can define who you are, what you believe in, and what it takes to make a difference. Power Forward tells the story of the five years Love worked as a personal assistant to Senator Obama as a candidate for president, and President Obama, and it is a professional coming of age story like no other. What the public knows was well put by Time magazine in 2008: “[Love’s] official duties don’t come close to capturing Reggie’s close bond with Obama, who plays a role that is part boss and part big brother.” What the public doesn’t know are the innumerable private moments during which that bond was forged and the President mentored a malleable young man. Accountability and serving with pride and honor were learned during unsought moments: from co-coaching grade school girls basketball with the president; lending Obama his tie ahead of a presidential debate; managing a personal life when no hour is truly his own; being tasked with getting the candidate up in the morning on time for long days of campaigning. From his first interview with Senator Obama, to his near-decision not to follow the president-elect to the White House, to eventually bringing LeBron, Melo, D-Wade, and Kobe to play with the President on his forty-ninth birthday, Love drew on Coach K’s teachings as he learned to navigate Washington. But it was while owning up to losing (briefly) the President’s briefcase, figuring out how to compete effectively in pick-up games in New Hampshire during the primary to secure support and votes, babysitting the children of visiting heads of state, and keeping the President company at every major turning point of his historic first campaign and administration, that Love learned how persistence and passion can lead not only to success, but to a broader concept of responsibility.
