Had I not been educated in the doctrine of implicit faith and passive obedience, where my medical advisers are concerned, I might have ven tured to doubt whether it was altogether fair, in the last hour Of your immediate connexion with the University, to deprive you of the benefit of those wise counsels, which none could give you half so well as the experienced, able and accomplished men, in whose name I have the honor to address you. Cer tain it is, I should have shrunk, with unaffected self-distrust, from the attempt to represent them, had' they not relieved me from the duty to do more than speak for them a few kind, parting words.
