Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is different from the first edition. There are three entirely new chapters: 2,6 and 9. I have also included new sections in chapters 1,4 and 8. Moreover, the remaining chapters, 3, 5 and 7, have been revised and updated. In chapters 2 and 6 I felt it was necessary to include the main alternative theories ofconsumer and company behaviour along with the neo-classical models. The book contains four chapters oftheory - 1, 2, 5 and 6 - and four chapters with theoretical and empirical applications - 3, 4, 7 and 8. Finally, chapter nine looks at choices made under conditions ofuncertainty. September 2002 P. Coto-Millan Preface to the First Edition Grateful acknowledgment is made to CICYT (Comision Interministerial de Ciencia y Tecnologia), National Plan R+D, Projects N-TXT96-2467 and N TXT98-1453 for its fmancial support. This text presents the economic theories on Utility and Production. In addition, such theories are used to explain the real problems of consumers and fIrms and several studies carried out by the author are displayed. Some collaboration by other professors of Economics is mentioned in the corresponding footnotes. The responsibility for errors and omissions, however, rests entirely upon the author. In chapters 1 and 4 of the book I try to present the theory of Utility and Production. Chapter 3 presents new functional forms and two empirical applications, on demand functions and systems. In chapters 2 and 5, the main theorems and properties presented in chapters 1 and 4 are applied.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper explores dimensional analysis of production and utility functions in economics. As raised by Barnett, dimensional analysis is important in consistency checks of economics functions. However, unlike Barnett's dismissal of CES and Cobb-Douglas production functions, we will demonstrate that under constant return-to-scale and other assumptions, production function can indeed be justified dimensionally. And then we consider utility functions.

Download or read book Production Function written by Fouad Sabry and published by One Billion Knowledgeable. This book was released on 2024-02-04 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Production Function The production function is a concept in economics that describes the technological relationship that exists between the quantities of physical inputs and the quantities of things that are produced. When it comes to standard neoclassical ideas, the production function is one of the most important notions. It is utilized to define marginal product and to differentiate allocative efficiency, which is a very important aspect of economics. As an engineer or a professional manager might understand it, one of the most important purposes of the production function is to address allocative efficiency in the use of factor inputs in production and the resulting distribution of income to those factors. This is accomplished while abstracting away from the technological problems that arise in the process of achieving technical efficiency. How you will benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Production function Chapter 2: Physical capital Chapter 3: Growth accounting Chapter 4: Marginal cost Chapter 5: Cobb-Douglas production function Chapter 6: Marginal product Chapter 7: Diminishing returns Chapter 8: Output (economics) Chapter 9: Returns to scale Chapter 10: Cost curve Chapter 11: Solow-Swan model Chapter 12: Total cost Chapter 13: Constant elasticity of substitution Chapter 14: Supply (economics) Chapter 15: Production (economics) Chapter 16: Marginal product of capital Chapter 17: Productivity Chapter 18: Marginal product of labor Chapter 19: AK model Chapter 20: Technological theory of social production Chapter 21: Cambridge capital controversy (II) Answering the public top questions about production function. Download or read book Production Economics: A Dual Approach to Theory and Applications written by Melvyn Fuss and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributions to Economic Analysis: Production Economics: A Dual Approach to Theory and Applications, Volume 2 focuses on the theory of production from the standpoint of the "dual", the relationships between economic observables which are dual to physical technology. The selection first ponders on duality, intermediate inputs and value-added, Hicks' aggregation theorem and the existence of a real value-added function, and homotheticity and real value-added in Canadian manufacturing. Discussions focus on real value-added and the production structure, estimation of the production structure, double deflation and real value-added, measurement of total productivity, and duality between direct and conditional indirect utility functions. The book then examines the estimation techniques for the elasticity of substitution and other production parameters and measurement of the elasticity of factor substitution and bias of technical change. The publication takes a look at the identification of technical change in the electricity generating industry, factor substitution in electricity generation, and the effectiveness of rate-of-return regulation. Topics include statistical tests of regulatory effectiveness, profit function for a regulated firm, tests of the structure of technology, identification problems in the measurement of technical change, and measurement of disembodied technical change. The selection is a valuable source of information for economists and researchers interested in production economics.

Book Synopsis Theory of Cost and Production Functions by : Ronald William Shephard
Download or read book Theory of Cost and Production Functions written by Ronald William Shephard and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sequel to his frequently cited Cost and Production Functions (1953), this book offers a unified, comprehensive treatment of these functions which underlie the economic theory of production. The approach is axiomatic for a definition of technology, by mappings of input vectors into subsets of output vectors that represent the unconstrained technical possibilities of production. To provide a completely general means of characterizing a technology, an alternative to the production function, called the Distance Function, is introduced. The duality between cost function and production function is developed by introducing a cost correspondence, showing that these two functions are given in terms of each other by dual minimum problems. The special class of production structures called Homothetic is given more general definition and extended to technologies with multiple outputs. Originally published in 1971. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Economic Production The process of production involves bringing together a number of different inputs, which can be either material or immaterial, in order to create output. In a perfect world, this output will be some kind of valuable good or service that contributes in some way to the overall utility of individual people. The theory of economics that is concerned with production is referred to as production theory, and it is closely connected to the theory of economics that is concerned with consumption. Book Synopsis Production Economics: An Empirical Approach by : Charles Britt Moss
Download or read book Production Economics: An Empirical Approach written by Charles Britt Moss and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2022-02-25 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Production economics is that branch of microeconomics that examines producer decisions. This book focuses on the empirical estimation of these relationships using primal, dual, and differential specifications. The primal specification models production decisions based on the production function — estimation of the input/output relationship and the derivation of optimization behavior from this technical relationship. The dual approach estimates production decisions using economic information such as input and output prices. The textbook then develops the linkages between these relationships. The differential specification is an alternative approach derived from changes in the first-order conditions from cost minimizing behavior. In each case, the theoretical development is followed by different empirical specifications that can be used to estimate the producer's choice.
