Book Synopsis Personnel Protection and Safety Equipment for the Oil and Gas Industries by : Alireza Bahadori
Download or read book Personnel Protection and Safety Equipment for the Oil and Gas Industries written by Alireza Bahadori and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2015-05-21 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oil and gas companies are repeatedly cited by regulatory organizations for poor training and maintenance on providing personal protective equipment to their refinery workers. Managers of refinery and petrochemical plants are responsible for instructing their workers with the types of equipment available, how to properly wear the equipment, how to properly care and maintain the equipment, and, most importantly, it’s their responsibility to enforce these regulations and safety requirements. While there are many reference materials on the subject, most are too broad to apply directly to the unique and highly volatile atmosphere of an oil and gas operation. Personnel Protection and Safety Equipment for the Oil and Gas Industries answers the call for safety managers onsite as well as workers to understand all the safety equipment available specifically for the energy sector. Condensed into one convenient reference location, this training guide is designed to inform on several types of personnel protective clothing, firefighting protective clothing, respiratory protective devises available as well as many other types of protective equipment, including fall protection and vehicle safety belts and harnesses. Industry-specific examples, multiple illustrations, and a glossary of terms make Personnel Protection and Safety Equipment for the Oil and Gas Industries a must-have on every oil and gas operation. Know recommended US and international protective safety equipment regulations Learn the types, classes, and materials of safety and protective equipment specific to the oil and gas industry Gain knowledge on how to select, test, maintain, and store protective equipment properly
Book Synopsis Data Assessment for Electrical Surge Protective Devices by : Eddie Davis
Download or read book Data Assessment for Electrical Surge Protective Devices written by Eddie Davis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-05 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This brief develops a data collection plan to assess loss related to electrical surges in homes, and explores the potential impact devices that prevent these surges could have in mitigating these losses. Key topics such as surge sources, surge effects and residential surge protection are clearly defined. Recent fire safety codes proposed a requirement that every dwelling unit be fitted with a surge protection device, as every year there is property damage to electrical and electronic equipment resulting from electrical surges. These proposals have not been implemented due to a lack of reliable data, which this brief seeks to change. The authors evaluate surge phenomena and their sources, surge protection methods, surge protection strategies and industry standards in order to present a data plan that can accurately assess loss related to electrical surges in homes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An all-in-one resource on power system protection fundamentals, practices, and applications Made up of an assembly of electrical components, power system protections are a critical piece of the electric power system. Despite its central importance to the safe operation of the power grid, the information available on the topic is limited in scope and detail. In Power System Protection: Fundamentals and Applications, a team of renowned engineers delivers an authoritative and robust overview of power system protection ideal for new and early-career engineers and technologists. The book offers device- and manufacturer-agnostic fundamentals using an accessible balance of theory and practical application. It offers a wealth of examples and easy-to-grasp illustrations to aid the reader in understanding and retaining the information provided within. In addition to providing a wealth of information on power system protection applications for generation, transmission, and distribution facilities, the book offers readers: A thorough introduction to power system protection, including why it's required and foundational definitions Comprehensive explorations of basic power system protection components, including instrument transformers, terminations, telecommunications, and more Practical discussions of basic types of protection relays and their operation, including overcurrent, differential, and distance relays In-depth examinations of breaker failure protection and automatic reclosing, including typical breaker failure tripping zones, logic paths, pedestal breakers, and more Perfect for system planning engineers, system operators, and power system equipment specifiers, Power System Protection: Fundamentals and Applications will also earn a place in the libraries of design and field engineers and technologists, as well as students and scholars of power-system protection.

Book Synopsis Circuit Protection Devices by : A. Bhatia
Download or read book Circuit Protection Devices written by A. Bhatia and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-02-21 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Too much current flowing through an electric circuit can damage the circuit and can create a safety hazard. How much current is "too much current"? That depends on the circuit and its components. For some circuits, 1 ampere would be too much current, while for other circuits 1 ampere would be perfectly acceptable. Circuit protection devices protect electrical equipment by rapidly disconnecting power to components in the event of an abnormal overload conditions resulting from excessive voltages, ground faults, and accidental shorting of a circuit. Two types of circuit protection devices are common; fuses and circuit breakers both operate by opening and interrupting current to the circuit. A fuse or circuit breaker is designed to create an open circuit if too much current flows through it. You can think of it as a switch that automatically turns itself off if the current through it exceeds a certain level. When a fuse is "blown" by having too much current pass through it, the fuse is ruined and must be replaced. On the other hand, when a circuit breaker is "tripped" by excessive current, the circuit breaker can be reset and used again, instead of being discarded. The choice of which to use depends on the specific application, circuit type, its electrical specifications, space available, environmental constraints, and customer preference. In the US, the National Electric Code (NEC) exists to guide electricians in the proper installation of electrical equipment and defines the specific requirements for circuit protection. In Canada the Canadian Electric Code (CEC) exists to provide similar guidance. Other areas of the world have equivalent country or local codes.A proper circuit protection strategy reduces long-term maintenance needs and other costs, and minimizes system downtime. This 3-hr Quick Book provides an overview of circuit protection devices and is based entirely on Naval Education and Training Materials (NAVEDTRA 14175), Electricity and Electronic Training Series; Module-3 and covers Chapter 2 titled “Circuit Protection Devices”. This course is aimed at students, professional engineers, service technicians, energy auditors, operational & maintenance personnel, facility engineers and general audience. At the conclusion of this course, the reader will be able to:• State the reasons why circuit protection is needed.• Define a direct short, an excessive current condition, and an excessive heat condition.• State the way in which circuit protection devices are connected in a circuit.• Identify two types of circuit protection devices and learn their types and characteristics.• List the three time delay ratings of circuit breakers.• Define selective tripping and state why it is used.• Identify the factors used in selecting circuit breakers.• List the methods of checking and the items to check when replacing and/or maintaining fuses and circuit breakers.
