Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The real time records of force and velocity measured at the pile head during each hammer impact constitute the so-called high strain test (HST) data in the modern wave equation technology in connection with pile-driving activities. Currently, the Case method and the CAPWAP match procedure represent the state-of-art in interpreting HST data to obtain useful information, such as bearing capacity of a pile, soil-pile interaction model parameters, and the hammer performance, etc. A new HST data interpretation procedure based on wave equation theories is developed in this paper. For the case where only toe resistance exists, the new method utilizes both force and velocity records to analytically compute the corresponding dynamic soil resistance at the toe of an impact-driven pile. An inverse optimization scheme is developed to use these analytically computed quantities to determine the pertinent soil-pile interaction model parameters. Examples are given to illustrate the use of the new method to determine the pertinent Smith model constants commonly used in modeling the dynamic soil-pile interactions. The developed algorithm is also successfully extended to the case in which both shaft and toe resistances are involved during pile driving.

Download or read book Pile Driving by Pile Buck written by Pile Buck International and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2009-11-13 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The definitive reference for driven piles. Nearly six years in the making, Pile Driving by Pile Buck is a comprehensive reference book on the history of pile driving and driven piles, the various types of piles, the equipment used to install them, the design of driven pile foundations, the installation of driven piles and the capacity verification of driven piles. Not just another theoretical exercise, Pile Driving by Pile Buck gives practical procedures and equipment configurations for the successful installation of virtually any driven pile foundations. Included with the text are a wealth of photographs without equal in this type of publication; the photos alone are worth the price of the book, and help bring the reader "on site" to understand the whole process of pile driving--one of the oldest construction techniques known.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most geotechnical books on soil mechanics or foundations focus exclusively on the needs of engineers. But the increasing complexity of the construction environment requires construction and engineering managers to know more about engineering requirements. Soils in Construction provides students in those disciplines with the necessary background to make informed decisions about soils. Every chapter of the Sixth Edition has been thoroughly updated, with all examples made even more clear and easier for students to follow. Many photos illustrate the concepts and applications of soils and geotechnical structures throughout the book. An appendix detailing lab procedures allow the book to serve those courses with a lab component while still maintaining flexibility for those without.
