Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides readers with comprehensive details on the management and measures to protect health against risks to people and environments generated by the use of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. This book is divided into three sections, namely, Radiation Protection and Measurement; Radiation Therapy; and Radioactivity. The first section covers ionizing radiation protection; population exposure to non-ionizing density; and the system of dosimetry quantities for use in emergency preparedness and response to nuclear or radiological accidents. The second section covers various planning techniques for spinal stereotactic body radiotherapy and the application of radiation technology in the development of a malaria vaccine. The third section discusses environmental radioactivity monitoring using efficient measurements and the assessment of radiation exposure to humans. Also in this section is the evaluation of the effects of chronic radiation exposure on the testes of mice after a nuclear power plant accident.
Book Synopsis The Clinical Applications of SPET by : P.H. Cox
Download or read book The Clinical Applications of SPET written by P.H. Cox and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past nuclear medicine has tended to develop in cycles governed by the development of new radiopharmaceuticals followed or preceded by advances in instrumentation. The development of alternative techniques, such as X-Ray Computer Tomography, NMR Imaging and Ultrasound have also had a stimulating effect and pointed the way to new developments. The development of Positron Emission Tomography, while in itself of limited application because of high costs involved, provided a great deal of information which led to the development of new organ or disease specific, single photon emitting radiopharmaceuticals together with tomographic Gamma cameras, whereby detailed information on the biodistribution of the reagents could be obtained with accurate spatial resolution presented in a form suitable for comparison with the other imaging modalities. This technology, known as Single Photon Emission (Computer) Tomography (SPECT or SPET, as the mood takes you) is now an essential tool in nuclear medicine. The volume presents a basic guideline to the technology involved and discusses the application of the method to the investigation of various anatomical regions of the body. The book is an aide mémoire to the routine practitioner and a source of information for other medical specialists.
Book Synopsis Textbk Radiopharmacy by : C. B. Sampson
Download or read book Textbk Radiopharmacy written by C. B. Sampson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-03-01 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition now includes practical information on drug enhancement of nuclear medicine studies; radiopharmaceuticals as therapeutic agents; pharmacokinetics and a section on current radiopharmaceutical research. This book begins with the basic scientific principles of radiation physics, generator systems and preparation of radiopharmaceuticals. It deals with methods of localization of radiopharmaceuticals such as lung deposition, ion exchange, membrane transportation, phagocytosis and pinocytosis. The important role of radiolabelling blood components is reviewed. The latest information on factors affecting biodistribution, adverse and unusual reactions, the integrity of radiopharmaceuticals and dosimetry is also included. There is also a section on new radiopharmaceuticals. The final chapter on paediatric radiopharmacy deals with the preparation of doses for children, methods of calculating doses and documentation.
Book Synopsis A Handbook of Bioanalysis and Drug Metabolism by : Gary Evans
Download or read book A Handbook of Bioanalysis and Drug Metabolism written by Gary Evans and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-10-15 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have seen a greater industrial emphasis in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the pharmaceutical and chemical sciences. However, textbooks have been slow to adapt, leaving the field without a text/reference that is both instructional and practical in the industrial setting – until now. A Handbook of Bioanalysis and Drug Metabolismis a stimulating new text that examines the techniques, methodology, and theory of bioanalysis, pharmacokinetics, and metabolism from the perspective of scientists with extensive professional experience in drug discovery and development. These three areas of research help drug developers to optimize the active component within potential drugs thereby increasing their effectiveness, and to provide safety and efficacy information required by regulators when granting a drug license. Professionals with extensive experience in drug discovery and development as well as specialized knowledge of the individual topics contributed to each chapter to create a current and well-credentialed text. It covers topics such as high performance liquid chromatography, protein binding, pharmacokinetics and drug–drug interactions. The unique industrial perspective helps to reinforce theory and develop valuable analytical and interpreting skills. This text is an invaluable guide to students in courses such as pharmaceutical science, pharmacology, chemistry, physiology and toxicology, as well as professionals in the biotechnology industry.
