Download or read book Use of Chlorofluorocarbons in Hydrology written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by IAEA. This book was released on 2006 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Groundwater is used to meet almost half of the global freshwater demand for domestic and agricultural use. Hydrological investigations to assess groundwater resources and to develop sustainable management strategies require a variety of scientific information, including the occurrence and rate of aquifer recharge. This publication explains the chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) technique for dating groundwater, including its scientific basis, sampling and measurement methods, interpretation and limitations of data, and a variety of case studies. It is intended to facilitate a comparative analysis of the CFC and isotope techniques and a wider use of the CFC technique under appropriate conditions.
