This book was released on 2022-05-16 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Meeting the Undernutrition Challenge (MUCH) programme, funded jointly by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the European Union, had the overall objective to improve the enabling environment to eradicate food insecurity and malnutrition in Bangladesh. The programme enhanced a national policy shift toward addressing nutrition by improving policy processes with more participation of civil society and subnational stakeholders, enriching policy and programming to address needs throughout the country. The programme supported significant enhancement of technical capacities to gather and analyze food security and nutrition evidence, innovative approaches for engaging students in nutrition learning activities, and improved the links between research and policy-making. Subnational capacity development support was initiated in the middle of the programme, identifying important opportunities for impactful multi-stakeholder collaboration on implementing national policy. The evaluation noted important effort on gender issues, but pointed out that emphasizing women’s empowerment and gender equity within all FSN programming is critical to success. To eradicate food insecurity and malnutrition throughout Bangladesh more work is especially needed in formalizing improved food-sector collaboration and multi-stakeholder governance mechanisms to continuously develop, learn, share and implement good practice at all levels.

Download or read book U.S. Development Aid--An Historic First written by Samuel Hale Butterfield and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2004-08-30 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first comprehensive account of U.S. development aid policies and implementation operations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, this work is a unique contribution to world history and to the extensive literature on Third World development. Butterfield begins with the remarkable story of why, in 1949, President Truman surprised Americans with his unprecedented development aid policy. He then describes the major alterations in U.S. development aid strategy and operations from 1950 to 2000. Drawing upon his long experience both in Washington and in country aid missions, Butterfield puts a human face on the story by weaving real world vignettes into his narrative. The survey addresses the role of Congress, important program foundations established in the 1950s, creative initiatives of the 1960s, frustrated promises in Vietnam. It explores the Third World's unexpected population explosion; America's evolving technical assistance work in the core sectors such as agriculture, education, health, and administration; and initiatives to reach the rural poor and promote the development role of women. It also comments upon linkages between policy dialogue and financial aid to promote market-oriented policy reforms, Africa's lagging development, and the decline of U.S. development aid in the 1990s.

Prior to 1995. there were five national evaluation organizations: the American Evnluntion Association (AEA). the Asociacion Centroamericana de Evaluacion (ACE). the Australasian Evaluation Society (AES). the Canadian Evaluation Society (CES). and the European Evaluation Society (EES). In November 1995. AEA and CES cosponsored an international evaluation conference in Vancouver, of the conference was "Evaluation for a New British Columbia. The theme Century-A Global Perspective." Delegates from 50 countries throughout Europe, Australia. New Zealand, Asia, Africa, and Central and South America attended the conference. The conference combined workshops and lecture fonnats to bring participants the most up-to-date and relevant information in a variety of sectors. Following the Vancouver conference, there was a gestation period, after which several national evaluation organizations in Europe were born (AEA/CES, Evaluation '95, On-Site Program). In 1997, EES held a conference in Stockholm. The theme of the conference was "What Works and for Whom'?" More than 280 evaluation professionals from 30 countries in Europe and throughout the world attended the conference. The conference provided a forum for academic professionals and civil servants to meet and share their experiences. Leaders emerged with goals to increase membership and to create extensive professional networks within the society (EES Newsletter, 2/97).
