Book Synopsis Metal Deformation Processing by : F. W. Boulger
Download or read book Metal Deformation Processing written by F. W. Boulger and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of the Metalworking Processes and Equipment Program, information was collected on deformation characteristics of metals and their effect on processing operations. The report presents the information collected from technical engineering reports on Government contracts and from general engineering and metallurgical publications. The objective is to help the nonspecialist in recognizing the implications of scientific findings and in applying them in specific operations. This report contains a series of articles covering the following subjects: Ductile Fracture; Application of High Pressure to the Forming of Brittle Metals; Superplasticity; Lubrication in Metal-Deformation Processes; Swaging; Adiabatic Conditions in Deformation Processing; Residual Stresses produced by Deformation. These subjects are treated in two ways: (1) generalized discussions of common processes point out why specific variables must be modified in order to deform certain types of metals satisfactorily; and (2) data on the more difficult-to-form metals are used to illustrate the principles, limitations, and effects of the processes. (Author).
Book Synopsis Joining of Titanium by : Robert Edward Monroe
Download or read book Joining of Titanium written by Robert Edward Monroe and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report supplies information on joining processes applicable to titanium and its alloys in sheet metal applications, primarily related directly to airframe construction. Although the material presented here does not cover all titanium joining processes, and omits such processes as plasma-arc, submerged-arc, electroslag, flash, and high-frequency resistance welding, the data presented cover materials up to 2-inches thick in some cases and the report should be useful to anyone seeking titanium joining information. The joining processes covered fall into five categories: welding, brazing, metallurgical bonding (diffusion and deformation bonding), adhesive bonding, and mechanical fastening. The fusion welding processes that are discussed in detail include gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, arc spot, and electron beam. The resistance processes give extended coverage are spot, roll spot, and seam welding. (Author).
Book Synopsis A Primer on Soviet Superalloys by : J. Prock (Jr.)
Download or read book A Primer on Soviet Superalloys written by J. Prock (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soviet nickel-base and cobalt-base alloys for high-temperature operation are described. Wrought and cast turbine blading alloys are included, as well as oxidation-resistant sheet alloys. Mechanical and physical properties of each alloy are assembled, and a detailed list of references is presented. Where possible, the specific applications are noted. It was concluded that the Soviets have made significant contributions to superalloy development, having successfully circumvented a shortage of cobalt and molybdenum. (Author).
Book Synopsis Metal Deformation Processing by : F. W. Boulger
Download or read book Metal Deformation Processing written by F. W. Boulger and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of the Metalworking Process and Equipment Program, a survey was conducted to collect and summarize information on deformation characteristics of metals and their effect on processing operations. This report presents information obtained from reports on Governmentsponsored work and from articles in technical publications. The report covers eight subjects: extrusion, forging, rolling, thermal mechanical variables affecting the properties of refractory metals and alloys, development of preferred orientations, anisotropy of strength and ductility, high-strain-rate deformation, and strain aging. In order to be useful to engineering students and production engineers the topics are treated in two ways. Generalized discussions of common processes point out why specific variables must be modified in order to deform certain types of metals satisfactorily. When practical, data on the more-difficultto-form metals are used to illustrate the principles, limitations, and effects of the processes. The objective is to help the non-specialist recognize the implications of specific findings and to apply them to specific operations. (Author).
Book Synopsis Physical Metallurgy of Beryllium by : H. D. Hanes
Download or read book Physical Metallurgy of Beryllium written by H. D. Hanes and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the recent work done to more fully understand the physical metallurgy of beryllium. A review of work on purification of beryllium, which has yielded high-quality single crystals, was made. The basic deformation properties of beryllium have thus been more clearly defined. The effects of certain alloying elements and impurities are also discussed. Deformation modes in polycrystalline beryllium are discussed based on the results of studies of single crystals. The texture developed in polycrystalline beryllium by fabrication and resulting effects on mechanical properties are dealt with, as well as fracture modes in single-crystal and polycrystalline beryllium. Bend-plane splitting is the method suggested for initiation of fracture in beryllium. Some effects of the distribution of impurities as a result of thermal treatment on the mechanical properties are cited. Since grain size is an important factor in determining properties, recrystallization and grain-growth phenomena are covered. The physical-metallurgical phenomena which contribute to the properties and fabricability of commercial products are discussed. (Author).
