Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terrorism is a criminal act that influences an audience beyond the immediate victim. The strategy of terrorists is to commit acts of violence that draw the attention of the local populace, the government, and the world to their cause. Terrorists plan their attack to obtain the greatest publicity, choosing targets that symbolize what they oppose. The effectiveness of the terrorist act lies not in the act itself, but in the public's or government's reaction to the act. For example, at the 1972 Munich Olympics, the Black September Organization killed 11 Israelis. The Israelis were the immediate victims. But the true target was the estimated 1 billion people watching the televised event. The Black September Organization used the high visibility of the Olympics to publicize its views on the plight of the Palestinian refugees. Similarly, in October 1983, Middle Eastern terrorists bombed the Marine Battalion Landing Team Headquarters at Beirut International Airport. Their immediate victims were the 241 U.S. military personnel who were killed and over 100 others who were wounded. Their true target was the American people and the U.S. Congress. Their one act of violence influenced the United States' decision to withdraw the Marines from Beirut and was therefore considered a terrorist success. On 11 September 2001, terrorists skyjacked U.S. commercial planes and crashed two planes into the World Trade Center in New York City and one into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The terrorist attacks inflicted serious loss of life by destroying the World Trade Center towers and part of the Pentagon building. They were designed to strike a blow at the American will and its economic and military structure. Although the attacks succeeded in hitting their targets, they galvanized the will of the American public to take political, financial, and military actions to combat terrorism. Perspectives: There are three perspectives of terrorism: the terrorist's, the victim's, and the general public's. The phrase "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" is a view terrorists themselves would accept. Terrorists do not see themselves as evil. They believe they are legitimate combatants, fighting for what they believe in, by whatever means possible. A victim of a terrorist act sees the terrorist as a criminal with no regard for human life. The general public's view is the most unstable. The terrorists take great pains to foster a "Robin Hood" image in hope of swaying the general public's point of view toward their cause.

Book excerpt: September 11 is a date that is forever branded in the consciousness of Americans as a turning point in our history when we realized that we are susceptible to terrorist acts by our enemies. When the World Trade Center buildings blew up and fell into the abyss, our feelings of invincibility came crumbling down with them.911 made us realize that we are not insulated from the rest of the world, and like the rest of the world, we are susceptible to violent acts of aggression. The Pacific and Atlantic Oceans no longer provide that separation from our enemies. Our enemies are mobile, motivated, alert, focused, well-funded --- and even live among us. Their goal is the complete annihilation of America and everything it stands for. You and your family are direct targets of the terrorists. Are you prepared to fight back and survive? The Terrorism Survival Guide gives you the tools you need to prepare yourself mentally, physically, and emotionally for when the unthinkable becomes reality. It is a practical handbook that you can pack with your survival kit so that you and your family have a chance.

Book excerpt: The Oklahoma City bombing, intentional crashing of airliners on September 11, 2001, and anthrax attacks in the fall of 2001 have made Americans acutely aware of the impacts of terrorism. These events and continued threats of terrorism have raised questions about the impact on the psychological health of the nation and how well the public health infrastructure is able to meet the psychological needs that will likely result. Preparing for the Psychological Consequences of Terrorism highlights some of the critical issues in responding to the psychological needs that result from terrorism and provides possible options for intervention. The committee offers an example for a public health strategy that may serve as a base from which plans to prevent and respond to the psychological consequences of a variety of terrorism events can be formulated. The report includes recommendations for the training and education of service providers, ensuring appropriate guidelines for the protection of service providers, and developing public health surveillance for preevent, event, and postevent factors related to psychological consequences.

This book was released on 2017-06-20 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The threat our country now faces from terrorism, both domestic and foreign, has never been greater. Global peace is hanging in the balance by a thread, and there are many determined and violent nations and organizations attempting to usurp our long held status as the most powerful force in the world. Regardless of who it comes from or what the reasons are, the possibility of a major unexpected terrorist attack upon the United States is very real. This is why being prepared for such an attack should be an extremely high priority for everyone. You may tell yourself that a terrorist attack will never happen to you, and use this as an excuse to not be prepared. You may convince yourself that all the terrorist attacks you see happening on television in London or Paris will never happen in your immediate vicinity. But can you really be so sure? What if anther 9/11, or perhaps an even more deadly attack, happens in the near future? What will you do then? If you decide that you refuse to be a victim and want to learn what you need to do to survive a devastating terrorist attack, you've come to the right place. There is nothing that I am more passionate about than helping the average person become prepared for extraordinary life threatening circumstances. If you're already an experienced survival or disaster preparedness expert, then this guide will probably be too basic for you. But if you're just an ordinary person who would like to be more prepared for a terrorist attack in your city, then this will be a great resource for you to learn from. I have good news for you: if you manage to survive the initial attack being prepared will dramatically increase your chances of survival. And that's exactly what this guide is going to teach you how to do. In this guide, we are going to learn how to prepare yourself for a major terrorist attack and what exactly you need to do when it strikes. Specifically, we will go over the following subjects: -Why Do You Need To Prepare For A Terrorist Attack? -Seven Realities Of A Terrorist Attack -Warning Signs Of A Terrorist Attack -Escaping The Terrorist Attack -Fighting Back Against The Terrorists -Finding Your Way Back Home -Keeping Your Family Safe After reading this guide, you will fully know what a terrorist attack will look like, how to identify an attack before it actually happens, and what you need to do to survive once the attack is underway and in its immediate aftermath. In essence, by reading this book and applying what you are about to learn, your chances of surviving a major terrorist strike will go up tremendously and you will be more prepared than literally ninety nine percent of everyone else. I'm going to make this book short and concise so it's a quick and easy read for you, but that does not mean you should take the information you're about to read lightly. This is a very serious subject and your life depends on it.
