Book Synopsis Prospects of a U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement by : Dean C. Alexander
Download or read book Prospects of a U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement written by Dean C. Alexander and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-07-24 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book addresses recent strides at trade regionalism in the Western Hemisphere. In addition, it provides a detailed discussion of the prospects, potential content, and likely impact of a U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement. Such an accord is very likely. In February 1994 the Clinton Administration announced that negotiations with Chile were expected to begin during the Spring of 1994 with completion at the end of 1995. Prior to focusing on U.S.-Chile trade, the book details contemporary efforts at trade regionalism in the Western Hemisphere, including: the U.S.-Canada Free Trade Agreement, the Caribbean Basin Initiative, the Enterprise for the Americas Initiative, the Andean Trade Preference Act, the Latin American Integration Association, the Caribbean Community Common Market, the Andean Pact, the Central American Common Market, the Southern Cone Common Market (Mercosur) and Chilean bilateral trade and investment arrangements. Next, a synopsis of recent U.S.-Chilean trade and investment relations as well as the impetus for a U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement are provided. In addition, the book offers an empirical assessment of U.S.-Chilean trade and investment relations. It also describes the various issues and topics that are likely to be covered in any U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement. Furthermore, particular U.S. and Chilean market sectors that might be affected by such an agreement are detailed. The conclusion is that a U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement would continue previous attempts at trade regionalism in Western Hemisphere. An annex provides an extensive directory of key government and business contacts in the U.S. and Chile, facilitating trade and investment opportunities for individuals and firms.

Download or read book Expanding NAFTA written by Carmen Zechner and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2002 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world economy has witnessed a sudden increase in free trade agreements, generating a renewed debate on their economic impact. In Expanding NAFTA Carmen Zechner focuses on the economic effects on Chile of the potential free trade agreement with the United States. The author creates a framework for analyzing the impact of economic integration between a developed and a developing country from the developing country's perspective. This book goes beyond earlier analyses of the static gains from free trade to examine the dynamic and more intangible effects that are critical to the welfare evaluation of trade agreements. Expanding NAFTA is an important contribution to the research on preferential trade liberalization and to understanding developing countries' trade policy choices. This book will be indispensable to anyone interested in trade policy making and the Chilean economy.

Book Synopsis U.S.-Chilean Trade by : United States. General Accounting Office
Download or read book U.S.-Chilean Trade written by United States. General Accounting Office and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: U.S.-Chilean trade more than doubled between 1986 and 1991. Chilean agriculture, fishery, and forestry exports to the United States have been particularly successful, and in 1991, accounted for well over half the value of Chilean exports to America. The United States, however, sells few agriculture, fishery, or forestry products to Chile. This report (1) reviews recent trends in U.S. trade with and investment in Chile for these three sectors; (2) evaluates the development of Chilean agriculture, fishery, and forestry exports to the United States; (3) analyzes the extent to which horticultural exports from Chile complement or compete with U.S. domestic production; and (4) identifies the main obstacles to bilateral agricultural trade and efforts to promote further trade liberalization.
