Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urinary incontinence (UI) is a highly prevalent condition among women worldwide. Although effective nonsurgical treatments exist, including pharmacological, behavioral, and physical therapies, many women with the condition are never diagnosed because of a lack of information, stigma, and the absence of regular screening in primary care, and those who are diagnosed might not receive or adhere to treatment. In this report, the authors present an environmental scan of studies published from 2012 through 2022 that assess the dissemination and implementation of nonsurgical UI treatment-including screening, management, and referral strategies-for women in primary care. The scan was conducted as part of the RAND's support and evaluation contract for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's Managing Urinary Incontinence initiative. The initiative, which builds on the agency's EvidenceNOW model, funds five grant projects to disseminate and implement improved nonsurgical treatment of UI for women within primary care practices in separate regions of the United States.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed as a guide for management of advanced clinical scenarios encountered by the contemporary pelvic floor surgeon. It is organized by pelvic floor disorder (PFD) and covers the evaluation and treatment of urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse. Opening chapters in each section cover the fundamentals of proper and comprehensive assessment of patient PFDs, as well as the treatment options that are available for each disorder. The book then focuses on more complex and challenging situations that are becoming more frequently encountered as the number of patients being treated for PFD increases and the length of patient follow-up grows. Each chapter finally includes an expert commentary to address these new scenarios and offers a shifted approach from that required for treatment-naïve patients. Female Pelvic Medicine: Challenging Cases with Expert Commentary teaches the reader how to approach the most difficult of clinical situations in a multidisciplinary fashion.

Each surgical technique is explained step by step with the aid of instructive figures. Book excerpt: These guidelines were developed as part of the NHS Executive Consensus Strategy for Major Clinical Guidelines. The methods used for the production of the guidelines were (i) a systematic review of the literature on incontinence and continence promotion and (ii) a multidisciplinary consensus conference of invited experts and clinicians in continence care and consumers of continence services.Since advances in health care may soon outdate current methods, the guidelines do not aim to direct the practitioner to specific named treatments. Rather, the aim is to aid clinicians in making decisions about purchasing and providing appropriate continence services in Primary Care.
