Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is mostly about one individual who worked for a large company and found himself on the wrong side of the company's management when corruption was discovered and exposed. This took place even though he had worked for and through the company's internal security forces, contracted corporate investigator firms, and the FBI. The book covers all levels and types of industrial crime, but concentrates more on executive crime. This is because it affects society the most, and it falls under the category of near-perfect crimes. This is because few are ever arrested, convicted, or do prison time even though they steal billions from all areas of society. The Wall Street crash was a prime example, and to add insult to injury, most got their bonuses on top of what they stole. This book continually tries to show its readers by example after example how easy it is for executives to steal billions and never even get questioned, forget about being arrested. Our criminal system is just not equipped or concerned about this type of crime. The ultimate concept being, crime in the executive world really pays big.

Book excerpt: This comprehensive book provides an adequate framework to establish various calculi of logical inference. Being an ‘enriched’ system of natural deduction, it helps to formulate logical calculi in an operational manner. By uncovering a certain harmony between a functional calculus on the labels and a logical calculus on the formulas, it allows mathematical foundations for systems of logic presentation designed to handle meta-level features at the object-level via a labelling mechanism, such as the D Gabbay's Labelled Deductive Systems. The book truly demonstrates that introducing ‘labels’ is useful to understand the proof-calculus itself, and also to clarify its connections with model-theoretic interpretations.

The automation of reasoning has advanced markedly in the past few decades, and this book discusses some of the remarkable successes that automated reasoning programs have had in tackling challenging problems in mathematics, logic, program verification, and circuit design. Because the intended audience includes students and teachers, the book provides many exercises as well as tutorial chapters that introduce readers to the field of logic and to automated reasoning in general. For more advanced researchers, the book presents challenging questions, many of which are still unanswered.

Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered how God deals with a Christian who chooses addiction? The life of one alcoholic affects hundreds of other lives, especially when the active drinker is a teacher, a parent, a grandparent, an involved church and community member. This is the story of a Christian marriage that weathers the storm of alcoholism at its deepest level. It is the story of bare survival in hopeless situations of repeated failure. It is the spiritual destruction of a respected Christian woman who seeks restoration. Written in honest, heartfelt language, this memoir demonstrates God's heart and longing for those trapped in the prodigal circumstances of addiction. Loss eventually becomes strength. Illness becomes a turn-around time of life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents Czeslaw Milosz's poetic philosophy of the body as an original defense of religious faith, transcendence, and the value of the human individual against what he viewed as dangerous modern forms of materialism. The Polish Nobel laureate saw the reductive biologization of human life as a root cause of the historical tragedies he had witnessed under Nazi German and Soviet regimes in twentieth-century Central and Eastern Europe. The book argues that his response was not merely to reconstitute spiritual or ideal forms of human identity, which no longer seemed plausible. Instead, he aimed to revalidate the flesh, elaborating his own non-reductive understandings of the self on the basis of the body's deeper meanings. Within the framework of a hesitant Christian faith, Milosz's poetry and prose often suggest a paradoxical striving toward transcendence precisely through sensual experience. Yet his perspectives on bodily existence are not exclusively affirmative. The book traces his diverse representations of the body from dualist visions that demonize the flesh through to positive images of the body as the source of religious experience, the self, and his own creative faculty. It also examines the complex relations between masculine and feminine bodies or forms of subjectivity, as Milosz represents them. Finally, it elucidates his contention that poetry is the best vehicle for conveying these contradictions, because it also combines disembodied, symbolic meanings with the sensual meanings of sound and rhythm. For Milosz, the double nature of poetic meaning reflects the fused duality of the human self.

Book excerpt: Spies, thieves, codebreakers & counterfeiters: All three Secrets & Spies books in one set! TO STEAL A HEART A master spy and a beautiful thief find love and intrigue in each other’s arms. Forced to do the bidding of a corrupt government minister, tightrope-walking thief Marianne de Bonnard agrees to plant incriminating evidence in the offices of France’s most notorious spymaster. But when her wickedly handsome target appears—with an outrageous proposition—Marianne’s torn between fear and an unwelcome spark of desire. Nicolas Valette has plans for his graceful trespasser. Her unique skills make her perfect for his next mission, but she refuses his offer for fear of disobeying her family’s tormenter. When their mutual enemy auctions off her virginity to the highest bidder, Nicolas leaps at the chance to buy her cooperation. Both want revenge, but perhaps their joint adventures will uncover something even more delicious . . . A RAVEN’S HEART When bookish codebreaker Heloise Hampden cracks the enemy’s most recent code, French agents are sent to silence her. But it’s the agent assigned to protect her who poses the greatest threat to her heart: William de l’Isle, Viscount Ravenwood. Raven’s imprisonment has made him wary of love, but his heart still pounds whenever he’s within ten paces of Heloise. He’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe—even if that means taking her to Spain as an unwilling hostage. Protecting her from danger will be a challenge; protecting her from desire will be pure agony. A COUNTERFEIT HEART As Sabine de la Tour tosses piles of forged banknotes onto a bonfire in a Paris park, she bids a reluctant farewell to her double life as a notorious criminal. She must escape France—or face the guillotine. Her only hope of surviving in England is to strike a deal with the very spy she’s spent her career outrunning. Richard Hampden, Viscount Lovell, will risk anything to protect England, even make a pact with the greatest counterfeiter in Europe, Philippe Lacorte. But when a cheeky, gamine-faced beauty proves herself to be Lacorte, Richard is shocked—and more than a little aroused. This cunning minx offers an irresistible challenge. Richard will help her. But in return, he wants something even Sabine cannot fake. Book excerpt: The powerful story of a CIA whistleblower and political prisoner who refused to give up on his American dream In 2015, Jeffrey Sterling was sentenced to prison, convicted of violating the Espionage Act. Sterling, it is now clear, was another victim of our government's draconian crackdown on alleged leakers and whistleblowers. Sterling grew up in a small, segregated town in Missouri and jumped at the chance to broaden his world and serve his country, first in law school and later in the CIA. After an impressive career, Sterling's progress came to a sudden halt: he was denied opportunities because of his race and was pushed out of the Agency. Later, Sterling courageously blew the whistle on the CIA's botched covert operation in Iran to Senate investigators. After a few quiet years in Missouri with his wife, he was arrested suddenly and charged with espionage. Unwanted Spy is an inspiring account of one man's uncompromising commitment to the truth and a reminder of the principles of justice and integrity that should define America.
