Book excerpt: Unsolicited Tears have flowed continually throughout the many times in my life. It is through these tears I have escaped the most difficult times in my life and basked in the victories. They started before I was even able to identify them. Just like the situations and circumstances I found myself in growing up, these tears were unsolicited. I learned to hide my pain bottled up on the inside before I found the outlet to release them. I have often heard that my life will be a testimony to others but there were many days I tried to skip the test and even change the outcome. It wasn't until I realized the purpose for my tears that I could allow them to flow freely from my eyes, without the guilt, shame, and pain that came with them. And then I cried.....

Book excerpt: The year is 1972, the age of hippies screaming for peace sweeps the land! Long-haired boys and young girls wearing mini skirts, and having painted flowers on their faces were trying to 'find themselves' by way of drugs or the 'new morality'! The news reported on protests at campuses across the country, where peace was fought for over violent clashes with police even as the Vietnam War raged. But a shy, seventeen year old boy in the Deep South is fascinated by a different movement spreading throughout the land. They called themselves 'Jesus People' and were speaking of a personal relationship with the Lord; as though one could converse with Him as with a close friend. He hungered and searched for a deeper walk, something that went beyond the borders of mere religiosity. His search for God eventually led him to a group that met weekly in the nearby town of Biloxi and was simply called, the 'Farm'. So enthralled with the apparent sincerity of these folks, he left the traditional church he had been raised in and encouraged his family to do the same. Thinking that he'd finally found the answer to the loneliness and disappointments of his life, he was drawn toward the teachings of these 'Believers'. But slowly that idyllic dream began to turn into a horrifying nightmare. The heavy burdensome teachings formed chains of bondage around his spirit, which seemed impossible to escape! However, the Lord is true to His Word and reveals Himself to all who seek after Him! The help from heaven came to this boy through unexpected sources, people whom he had been taught to think of as 'unenlightened'. But Jesus often uses the simple to confound the wise, creating a humble heart within us, and enabling us to see the truth.

A story of domestic violence, of psychological abuse that will grab you in the gut. Mysia, a young woman, and her monochromatic life that step by step will become increasingly tinged with black, a black that knows sadness, fear, mourning. And in an escalation of violence, when the situation seems to become irreparable, impossible to bear, it will seem as if there is only one solution... But life is sometimes able to surprise us, and although this will not represent a fair reward for the wrongs suffered, perhaps over time it will be able to mitigate the memories, cushioning sharp edges and opening an unhoped-for glimmer of light. Every one of us deserves a life in color, deserves to finally be the architect of our own destiny, without succumbing any longer, to finally be free to love, to love each other.

Book excerpt: What if one day you woke up and realized that you’ve been defined so well that you haven’t even dared to question who you are? “… this awareness came from a state of deep quietness. A state beyond thought. A state of no belief. A state of freedom. Freedom to observe what is, as it is.” Much more than simple principles and clichés, The MindChemist is not only a guide through an awakening but also an intimate memoir and a galvanizing wake-up call. The book takes the reader on an inspiring spiritual journey to find their true self by describing the lessons and truths that one young man experienced as he surrendered to a voice within and embarked on his journey of self-exploration. The MindChemist is aimed at awakening and guiding, as well as activating people to seek their own sovereignty and independence, and discover the truth of themselves by themselves. “To learn about yourself from somebody else is naive. Why be a second-hand human? Discover for yourself.’’

Light is but a tiny flickering flame in a blanket of darkness, struggling not to be snuffed out. Lucia, an orphan girl, is also a Core, a physical manifestation of Elohim’s pure love and part of an ancient prophecy that will prevent one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse from being controlled by the darkness to destroy everything good. But Lucia’s not so sure she believes that anymore. Her upbringing by the Amilign monks has given her more questions than answers. When the extent of the Amilign’s evil plans for her future is revealed, Lucia flees their mountain ashram, only to run into the mysterious Nicanor, who offers to take her to the prophets who possess the answers she seeks. Instinctively drawn to Nicanor and his white horse, Adira, the same horse who’s been haunting her dreams for years, Lucia wars with her growing feelings for her guide. But her years at the ashram have taught her not to trust anyone, and Nicanor hoards secrets like dragons their treasure. When the truth about the nature of Lucia’s bond with the horseman comes to light and Lucia is unexpectedly recaptured by the enemy, Nicanor faces a hard decision. Will he continue to let fear rule his future—and Lucia’s—or will he unlock the heavenly power Elohim gifted before it’s too late for everyone?
Book Synopsis Wandering and Welcome by : Joseph Grant
Download or read book Wandering and Welcome written by Joseph Grant and published by Franciscan Media. This book was released on 2019-10-30 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feeling unsettled or searching for peace? Looking for a new way to find hope? Every searching heart needs this book. Times are difficult; Joseph Grant's meditative delivery wraps his reader in hope, tenderness, and gratitude. Wandering and Welcome is a beacon of poetic kindness rooted in honesty, Scripture, and truth. You'll want to call loved ones and read pieces to them aloud. Some pages will make you sigh in astonishment, some will cause you to pause in revelation, and others will bring tears of joy and appreciation. If a book could be both giant reality check and tender hug all wrapped in one, this would be it. “Amid the tumult of these frenzied times, contemplative living does not propose an escape from our very real, practical, and sometimes intractable problems. On the contrary, it suggests a way of being still, while still being in the storms that rage all around and within us. Seasoned by tears of joy and lament, prayer-centered presence invites us to welcome the whole world by drawing it into our heart-center. Here theology mixes with theater and prophetic action with poetry, as walls come tumbling down, making way for wonder, woe, and well-being.” —from the introduction

Book Synopsis Aphasia, My World Alone by : Helen H. Wulf
Download or read book Aphasia, My World Alone written by Helen H. Wulf and published by Wayne State University Press. This book was released on 1986-06-30 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Introduction: Sudden and unexpected loss of communication is a terrifying, dehumanizing experience that tears away at the essence of life itself. For decades, speech and language pathologists have sought to better understand it. The term aphasia is used to generally describe a condition whereby speech and language skills are partially or totally lost. Aphasia is the result of damage to or disturbance of those areas in the brain responsible for speech and language functions. A tremendous variety of specific impairments can occur to plague the individual with aphasia. Impairments of comprehension, reading disturbances, writing difficulties, and confusion with numerical processes can accompany oral language problems such as word loss, loss of sentence structure, and confusion in utilizing word forms. . . To understand aphasia at this level alone is to miss the full nature of this terribly debilitating condition. For the effect that aphasia has on the person who must bear its consequences is a profound area of interest that is not always understood and. . . seldom considered. Aphasia, My World Alone has been written to help open this often closed door. . . Helen Wulf has put down on paper a depth of feeling, thought, and analysis concerning the aphasic experience that personalizes the disorder in a gripping, readable manner. She delves so deeply into her aphasia that the reader is actually drawn up into the agony and frustration that is the daily burden of the aphasic individual. Speech pathologists who actively work with aphasic patients will immediately recognize the value of Helen Wulf's analysis of her aphasia. Her reactions to various forms of treatment will also be beneficial, especially to those who are allowing certain aphasics to determine which speech and language deficits are most debilitating and, consequently, which area should be emphasized in the initial stages of treatment. Family and friends of the aphasic will be warmly introduced to those inner thoughts so long hidden from their ears. . . This book. . . should be extremely useful in family counseling. . . As many speech pathologists have indicated, the need for "family treatment" is immediate, real, and often of critical importance. . . As the field of aphasia rehabilitation continues its growth ... our ability to help the aphasic and his family will expand. It is felt that in its small way, this book will help make aphasia less of a world alone. A new chapter has been added to this revised edition in which Helen Wulf assesses her feelings and the progress she has made six to eight years post-stroke.
Book Synopsis Forerunners to the Uncharted Amazon by : Paul Charles Johnson
Download or read book Forerunners to the Uncharted Amazon written by Paul Charles Johnson and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-09-21 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few have ever known the honor and mystique of growing up in the virgin Amazon rainforest. In the late 1950s, Paul Johnson's family of six chose to leave the comforts of Canada to disappear into stark isolation, three weeks travel by dugout canoe from the last outpost of Bolivian civilization. Survival was precarious due to unending encounters with the anaconda, jaguar, crocodile, and an unknown hostile tribe. History shamefully confirms that so-called civilization conquered or annihilated many original Amazonian cultures. Even so, dozens of remote indigenous nations remained hidden in the vast jungle encompassing an area larger than the continental USA. The family's hope was to befriend and respect one of those tribes, equipping them holistically to face the onslaught that would inevitably invade their pristine world. For Paul's family, learning to thrive involved harvesting the bounty of the jungle, carving out a primitive base camp on the riverbank, and tolerating a multitude of insects, intense heat, and fatal tropical diseases. After three years of unimaginable sacrifice, confidence was finally earned with a Stone Age people group, ushering in a tenuous first contact. As book 1 of a trilogy of Rain Forest Memoirs, this narrative highlights the intentions and unrestrained power of God, as played out in the lives of a few ordinary messengers. Faith brought them to the forest. Perseverance kept them there. Peace that surpassed understanding sustained them throughout innumerable trials. Their legacy imparts compelling purpose and destiny for those yearning for far more in life today.
