This ground-breaking book, written by a neuroscientist and unbiased futuristic thinker, provides the answers and wakes you up to the meaning of life, reality and YOU. Robert Davis, Ph.D., bridges the gap between science and spirituality through an objective, evidence-based analysis of experimental research and theories, integrating them with life-changing personal accounts of spiritual and extraordinary experiences. This inspiring, thought provoking, and educational book on the integration of science and reality is a conceptual breakthrough. Science, wonder, reality, and what it means to be human are all explored in depth in this book. This is truly an explosive read; well written and thoroughly researched. I loved it. --Brian Olmstead, Ph.D., neuroscientist A much-needed scholarly and well-argued review of the evidence for various kinds of profound states of knowledge and awareness that people experience on a daily basis. Davis shows how a wide variety of unusual phenomena may all be related, presenting a rationale and framework for their scientific study within the physics of consciousness. --Russ Scalpone, Ph.D., psychologist

Book excerpt: The co-founder and longtime president of Pixar updates and expands his 2014 New York Times bestseller on creative leadership, reflecting on the management principles that built Pixar’s singularly successful culture, and on all he learned during the past nine years that allowed Pixar to retain its creative culture while continuing to evolve. “Might be the most thoughtful management book ever.”—Fast Company For nearly thirty years, Pixar has dominated the world of animation, producing such beloved films as the Toy Story trilogy, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Up, and WALL-E, which have gone on to set box-office records and garner eighteen Academy Awards. The joyous storytelling, the inventive plots, the emotional authenticity: In some ways, Pixar movies are an object lesson in what creativity really is. Here, Catmull reveals the ideals and techniques that have made Pixar so widely admired—and so profitable. As a young man, Ed Catmull had a dream: to make the first computer-animated movie. He nurtured that dream as a Ph.D. student, and then forged a partnership with George Lucas that led, indirectly, to his founding Pixar with Steve Jobs and John Lasseter in 1986. Nine years later, Toy Story was released, changing animation forever. The essential ingredient in that movie’s success—and in the twenty-five movies that followed—was the unique environment that Catmull and his colleagues built at Pixar, based on philosophies that protect the creative process and defy convention, such as: • Give a good idea to a mediocre team and they will screw it up. But give a mediocre idea to a great team and they will either fix it or come up with something better. • It’s not the manager’s job to prevent risks. It’s the manager’s job to make it safe for others to take them. • The cost of preventing errors is often far greater than the cost of fixing them. • A company’s communication structure should not mirror its organizational structure. Everybody should be able to talk to anybody. Creativity, Inc. has been significantly expanded to illuminate the continuing development of the unique culture at Pixar. It features a new introduction, two entirely new chapters, four new chapter postscripts, and changes and updates throughout. Pursuing excellence isn’t a one-off assignment but an ongoing, day-in, day-out, full-time job. And Creativity, Inc. explores how it is done.

Book excerpt: Why does one smoker die of lung cancer but another live to 100? The answer is 'The Hidden Half' - those random, unknowable variables that mess up our attempts to comprehend the world. We humans are very clever creatures - but we're idiots about how clever we really are. In this entertaining and ingenious book, Blastland reveals how in our quest to make the world more understandable, we lose sight of how unexplainable it often is. The result - from GDP figures to medicine - is that experts know a lot less than they think. Filled with compelling stories from economics, genetics, business, and science, The Hidden Half is a warning that an explanation which works in one arena may not work in another. Entertaining and provocative, it will change how you view the world.

Book excerpt: The contribution of culture to organizational performance is substantial and quantifiable. In The Culture Cycle, renowned thought leader James Heskett demonstrates how an effective culture can account for 20-30% of the differential in performance compared with "culturally unremarkable" competitors. Drawing on decades of field research and dozens of case studies, Heskett introduces a powerful conceptual framework for managing culture, and shows it at work in a real-world setting. Heskett's "culture cycle" identifies cause-and-effect relationships that are crucial to shaping effective cultures, and demonstrates how to calculate culture's economic value through "Four Rs": referrals, retention, returns to labor, and relationships. This book: Explains how culture evolves, can be shaped and sustained, and serve as the organization's "internal brand." Shows how culture can promote innovation and survival in tough times. Guides leaders in linking culture to strategy and managing forces that challenge it. Shows how to credibly quantify culture's impact on performance, productivity, and profits. Clarifies culture's unique role in mission-driven organizations. A follow-up to the classic Corporate Culture and Performance (authored by Heskett and John Kotter), this is the next indispensable book on organizational culture. "Heskett (emer., Harvard Business School) provides an exhaustive examination of corporate policies, practices, and behaviors in organizations." Summing Up: Recommended. Book excerpt: Jesus said in John 10:10, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy; I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." There are two forces in this world. One is of God the creator of all things and the other one is of Satan, who is not a creator but an adversary of God. We are all being created in the image of God, but because of our forefathers Adam and Eve obeyed to Satan, the sin entered into this world. So Satan took control of this world and brought all kinds of misery, heartache, sickness, disease, and death to mankind. In reality, the real person is the spirit man. Those who do not know the Word of God fall into the trap of Satan and think that they are inherited the sickness, disease, anger, and all the fallen nature from their forefathers and they try to live with it. Jesus bore all the sickness, disease, curses and death bore upon Himself so that we can live victoriously (John 10:10). Satan attacks the people in their soul, mind and body. Jesus has given the believers the authority and power over the forces of darkness, the Satan. One of the root cause for emotional and physical problem is the Spiritual problem. Human beings are comprised of three components, such as spirit, soul (mind, emotion, and will) and body. To be made whole it is important to deal with the root cause. If a tree has a problem, in order to bear good fruit, the root needs to be treated and not the surface. Similarly, people facing emotional and physical problems need to diagnose the root cause, in the soulish realm, and not just the outward symptoms. People can receive the healing for the whole person by the power of the Holy Spirit, in the Name of Jesus and by the authority of the Word of God.

Book excerpt: Prepare yourself for an eye-opening odyssey through magical, metaphysical realities The spaces between... ...Are filled with wonder, spectacle and the unexpected. So says Joseph, the ancient, discarnate spirit communicator in this, the eighth book of his internationally-acclaimed series, as he draws back the heavy curtain of 'reality' to reveal aspects of the world and of our physical and spiritual lives that have remained unnoticed, unseen and unappreciated for countless aeons. Within these pages you will meet the many wondrous expressions of spiritual life, both positive and negative, that co-habit and interact with us on Earth -- hugely influential beings that at worst have been dismissed entirely and at best confined to the realms of folklore and myth as a result of our current fascination with all things material and the glamour of our express-train society. You will also come face to face with and discover the nature of some of the deepest facets of yourself, allowing you to gain greater control over your life and to express and project the noblest aspects of 'you' into the world for your personal benefit, the benefit of all humanity and the good of the planet itself. Prepare yourself for an enlightening, enthralling and sometimes shocking journey through the parallel realms that exist around and within you at this very moment, waiting to once again be recognised and understood. ...By the last page you will be in no doubt that the 'spaces between' -- on Earth, in the heavens and deep within yourself -- are, in fact, anything but.
