Book excerpt: Sri Ramakrishna is widely known as a nineteenth-century Indian mystic who affirmed the harmony of all religions on the basis of his richly varied spiritual experiences and eclectic religious practices, both Hindu and non-Hindu. In Infinite Paths to Infinite Reality, Ayon Maharaj argues that Sri Ramakrishna was also a sophisticated philosopher of great contemporary relevance. Through a careful study of Sri Ramakrishna's recorded oral teachings in the original Bengali, Maharaj reconstructs his philosophical positions and analyzes them from a cross-cultural perspective. Sri Ramakrishna's spiritual journey culminated in the exalted state of "vijñana," his term for the "intimate knowledge" of God as the Infinite Reality that is both personal and impersonal, with and without form, immanent in the universe and beyond it. This expansive spiritual standpoint of vijñana, Maharaj contends, opens up a new paradigm for addressing central issues in cross-cultural philosophy of religion, including divine infinitude, religious pluralism, mystical experience, and the problem of evil. Sri Ramakrishna's vijñana-based religious pluralism--when grasped in all its subtlety--proves to have major philosophical advantages over dominant Western models. Moreover, his mystical testimony and teachings not only cut across long-standing debates about the nature of mystical experience but also bolster recent defenses of its epistemic value. Maharaj further demonstrates that Sri Ramakrishna's unique response to the problem of evil resonates strongly with Western "soul-making" theodicies and contemporary theories of skeptical theism. A pioneering interdisciplinary study of one of India's most important philosopher-mystics, Maharaj's book is essential reading for scholars and students in philosophy of religion, theology, religious studies, and Hindu studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is possible and why? What is the difference between the merely possible and the actual? In Kants Modal Metaphysics Nicholas Stang examines Kants lifelong engagement with these questions and their role in his philosophical development. This is the first book to trace Kants theory of possibility all theway from the so-called pre-Critical writings of the 1750s and 1760s to the Critical system of philosophy inaugurated by the Critique of Pure Reason in 1781. Stang argues that the key to understanding both the change and the continuity between Kants pre-Critical and Critical theory of possibility is his transformation of the ontological question about possibility-what is it for a being to be possible?-into a question in transcendental philosophy-what is it to represent an object as possible? The first half of Kants Modal Metaphysics explores Kants pre-Critical theory of possibility, including his answer to the ontological question about the nature of possibility, his rejection of the traditional ontological argument for the existence of God, and his own argument that God must exist to ground all possibility. The second half examines why Kant reoriented his theory of possibility around the transcendental question, what this question means, and how Kant answered it in the Critical philosophy. Stang shows that, despite this reorientation, Kants basic scheme for thinking about possibility remains constant from the pre-Critical period through the Critical system. What had been an ontological theory of possible being is reinterpreted, in the Critical system, as a theory of how we must represent possible objects, given the nature of our intellect.

Book excerpt: This book draws from previously unpublished letters and interviews with physicists, theologians, and Sir John’s close associates and family to present Sir John’s ideas on pure unlimited love. Post, who was in dialogue with Sir John for fifteen years on this topic and who had founded the Institute for Research on Unlimited Love (www.unlimitedloveinstitute.com), addresses how John Templeton arrived at his philosophy as a youth growing up in Tennessee. Post also shares how classical Presbyterian ideas came to synergize in his mind with the more Eastern influences of American transcendentalism and the Unity School of Christianity and ponders if Sir John truly believed that science and spirituality might fully converge on the same view of Ultimate Reality with their very different ways of knowing. Is Ultimate Reality Unlimited Love? presents Sir John’s hope for spiritual progress with the eventual convergence of ultimate reality and unlimited love.

Book excerpt: What do you believe? What do you know? Do you really know anything? These are the questions at the heart of a unique and exclusive university course. This course was developed by the only person who could teach it, a man known as The Professor. This is the story of his truth, as he knew it to be, as he discovers it, and as it is revealed to us all. As a young and brilliant scientist, Adam stumbled upon a troubling truth too big to hide, and too shocking to be revealed. This discovery sets off a series of events which thrust Adam into revelations which he must learn to accept, or choose to reject. As we experience The Professor's class with his select students, we are challenged to consider our own belief structure, our own version of the truth and make our own determination as to which side of the war we will pledge our allegiance. By accepting your place as the fly on the wall, you step into the world of appearances.

Because we keep noticing their traces everywhere, while authorities deny their presence. Are there other civilizations out there among planets and stars? Because we keep seeing their people around here, pursuing their obscure interests, with authorities ignoring everything. Are there nonhuman civilizations on Earth, in parallel with the human civilization? Because they interact from the shadow of the underground with the human civilization, while again, authorities deny systematically their presence. And when authorities are constrained in any way to give an answer, they state vaguely that it is a matter of human survival. And how can humans defend themselves of anyone and anything as they are held in ignorance and denial? Is there life after death? Because countless of people had died and came back to tell their story, and it is always consistent. This implies the existence of higher, extraordinary civilizations in parallel with the human civilization, from above. These higher civilizations could be possible, since their niches of life and existence are accurate and already present within other realities. Science and academia ignore this topic entirely, ridiculing all seekers of higher truth, and forcing them in this manner to stop their research. What can there be more important to know in this world than the meaning of life itself, the meaning of this entire human civilization, along with the meaning of the lives and existence of all humans here in this world and in all higher worlds? Why postponing disclosure if it is imperative for people’s wider existence? Who profits and who loses through this entire coverup? Who exactly controls the current human authority? Why is humanity kept ignorant in what it concerns the most important subject of all, life everywhere, and life eternally, intelligent and civilized life? Because if there are other civilizations on Earth and elsewhere, human or not, if there are other realities up there besides this one, populated and civilized, then people’s ignorance renders them vulnerable when they die and have to go elsewhere. In this manner, once you ignore the kind of realities that may be out there, you might be tricked to go and live in treacherous, dubious, unholy worlds, claiming that they are in fact the holly lands promised to you by your own religion. And so you disappear. Because it is stated in religious records to be careful not to follow false deities. Yet how can you know anything in this domain, if you are kept ignorant the entire time, and probably lied to, misled, and many times tempted with irrelevant material compensations throughout life? This book helps you understand civilizations from a rigorous, comprehensive perspective, including the meaning, interests, agreements, and intentions that civilizations have in the wider world, why individuals form civilizations as an end product of their cumulative lifetime efforts, and furthermore, what meanings these civilizations have in the wider world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William C. Hackett’s English translation of Jean Wahl’s Existence humaine et transcendence (1944) brings back to life an all-but-forgotten book that provocatively explores the philosophical concept of transcendence. Based on what Emmanuel Levinas called “Wahl’s famous lecture” from 1937, Existence humaine et transcendence captured a watershed moment of European philosophy. Included in the book are Wahl's remarkable original lecture and the debate that ensued, with significant contributions by Gabriel Marcel and Nicolai Berdyaev, as well as letters submitted on the occasion by Heidegger, Levinas, Jaspers, and other famous figures from that era. Concerned above all with the ineradicable felt value of human experience by which any philosophical thesis is measured, Wahl makes a daring clarification of the concept of transcendence and explores its repercussions through a masterly appeal to many (often surprising) places within the entire history of Western thought. Apart from its intrinsic philosophical significance as a discussion of the concepts of being, the absolute, and transcendence, Wahl's work is valuable insofar as it became a focal point for a great many other European intellectuals. Hackett has provided an annotated introduction to orient readers to this influential work of twentieth-century French philosophy and to one of its key figures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People are suffering here in America and abroad. Global warming, mass conflicts, increased domestic and foreign murders, governmental corruptions, starving nations, global wars coupled with global warming, the consciousness of the men attempting to turn into women, and the consciousness of the woman falling from her place to be as a man, all of these are threats against our survival of tomorrow. Wars are now fought with computerized drones overseas. Drugs, gangs, killings, police shooting coupled with political protection are ravishing the land of equal rights under the symbol of the eagle. These are biblical signs of the realities of the problems and conditions that should tell us all something is very wrong. The major questions are, can the human race avoid self-destruction? And if so, does our salvation rest in relying on a higher power to insure future generations have a world that’s worth living in under the laws of man? For too long we the human family have collectively functioned like lost children, but, some as prodigal sons, even as fallen angels. However, our earthly existence isn’t random coincidences, for it is not, all of these conditions of the man that’s upon this earth are a one chance to learn and understand what it is to live in equality under the original orders and commandments of God the creator and those of Jesus Christ the savior of all men. Personally, I believe that God is humanity’s best hope for survival. The book’s title The Fallen Angel Man – Egairram, Not Marriage, essentially refers to mankind’s disconnect from his creator. Within its pages you see vivid examples of, among other things, our moral decadences, and I’d dare say that only a willingly blind person would fail to see the consequences all around us from a severed spiritual bond. So whether you believe in divine solutions, or you prefer a more “common sense” approach to fixing society’s problems in playing eternal death roulette, feel free to criticize these books. Even disagree with some of the subject material as presented. These books explain the fallen consciousness of the man and that of those of the billions of rebellious and fallen angels that turned against the perfect laws and orders of God. But, don’t be surprised to find the pages inside stroking your curiosity to read on into these six volumes. A.M. Brown II
