Book excerpt: Dolphinity traces the lives of twins, separated at birth, as they grow up on opposite coastlines. Jennifer's is a life of privilege based in California, while Daniel grows up on a houseboat in the Florida Keys. There he develops a special bond with dolphins. As a result of a strange boating accident (where hes presume drowned), Daniel enters the realm of the dolphins. Witnessing his own transformation into dolphin form, Daniel learns that a sect of dolphins descended from Atlantis. The priests of that era mastered the mysteries of genetics, and altered their forms to withstand the Great Flood. Instead of letting Daniel drown, the dolphins elect to make him one with them. Witness to the growing devastation of the worlds oceans, it is Daniels destiny to one day reveal all that he encountered. Living a parallel life, Jennifer marries and raises two children. However, a health crisis sends her on a vision-quest to Florida where her path intersects that of her brother! The dolphins are able to use Jennifer's genetic template to reverse engineer Daniel's form. He then becomes a powerful voice, speaking on behalf of sacred ecology. The story of twins returned to wholeness serves as a key metaphor for our times.

However, much of the current literature is dense, unwelcoming and academic in style and format. For those physicians understanding the scope of cardiac rehabilitation there is a need to distill the guidelines and various management options available to them into a concise practical manual. Up until now, all references have looked at the general options, but there is definite need to investigate the practicalities of individual patient groups. This book fulfills the need for practical guidance among all professionals involved in the management of these patients, from residents and fellows of cardiology and internal medicine, surgical teams, physiotherapy professionals, critical care physicians and family medicine practitioners.

Book Synopsis Incarcerated Minds by : Matthew Galindo
Download or read book Incarcerated Minds written by Matthew Galindo and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-06-08 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manny had heard stories about Lion's Gate. From what he was told, it was a fitting name for a state prison. Lion's Gate had a reputation to house only the most violent criminals in the state. What went on inside of the walls of Lion's Gate took place at no other prison in the state of Arizona. It was the last facility that was actually run by the inmates themselves. All the guards did was pick up their checks and make sure no one tried to jump the fence. The guards could care less what the inmates did to each other. To them, it was a job that paid the bills and required very little of them at most times. They did what they had to do when they had to do it, but no more than that. Not being one to believe everything he was told, Manny still couldn't help but feel a nervous knot in his stomach tighten at the thought of actually beginning his sentence at Lion's Gate. He expected to start off on a medium-custody-level yard, where they allowed a lot of free time and offered self-help classes. He figured he would get a job in the kitchen washing dishes and would just stick to himself, do his own thing. If Lion's Gate ended up being the starting point of his journey, he somehow knew that his time would be spent much differently.

To have a healthy old age you must act now, whether you are 30 or 50. I have two great passions – sharing my love of cooking delicious, simple food and improving the health and nutrition of older people. I hope this cookbook does both but it’s not for ‘old’ people, it’s for you. I have been delighted to work with leading Alzheimer’s researcher Professor Ralph Martins in recent years and I have learned that if we are to avoid Alzheimer’s and other lifestyle diseases it is what we eat today that matters. These are my recipes for every day, for everybody, full of deep flavours and beautiful ingredients that will nourish you and your family. Nobody wants to eat worthy food that tastes like cardboard. For me, food without flavour is unthinkable! And so is the notion of restricting whole food groups. My recipe for life is to have a healthy attitude to eating – it’s all about balance, variety and choosing foods that give you the best chance of being in good health now and into your future. This is not a diet book – it’s a way of life. This new edition includes recipes from my ABC TV show Maggie Beer’s Big Mission. ~ Maggie Beer Maggie Beer and Professor Ralph Martins have teamed up to fight one of the most debilitating diseases of our later years. Based on the latest scientific research, Maggie has created more than 200 recipes that help provide the nutrients we need for optimum brain health. The proceeds from Maggie’s Recipe for Life are shared between the Maggie Beer Foundation and the Lions Alzheimer’s Foundation.
Book Synopsis The First Chapters by : Charles E. Hill
Download or read book The First Chapters written by Charles E. Hill and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-01-11 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The First Chapters uncovers the origins of the first paragraph or chapter divisions in copies of the Christian Scriptures. Its focal point is the magnificent, fourth-century Codex Vaticanus (Vat.gr. 1209; B 03), perhaps the single most significant ancient manuscript of the Bible, and the oldest material witness to what may be the earliest set of numbered chapter divisions of the Bible. The First Chapters tells the history of textual division, starting from when copies of Greek literary works used virtually no spaces, marks, or other graphic techniques to assist the reader. It explores the origins of other numbering systems, like the better-known Eusebian Canons, but its theme is the first set of numbered chapters in Codex Vaticanus, what nineteenth-century textual critic Samuel P. Tregelles labelled the Capitulatio Vaticana. It demonstrates that these numbers were not, as most have claimed, late additions to the codex but belonged integrally to its original production. The First Chapters then breaks new ground by showing that the Capitulatio Vaticana has real precursors in some much earlier manuscripts. It thus casts light on a long, continuous tradition of scribally-placed, visual guides to the reading and interpreting of Scriptural books. Finally, The First Chapters exposes abundant new evidence that this early system for marking the sense-divisions of Scripture has played a much greater role in the history of exegesis than has previously been imaginable.

The Mediterranean diet is the most universally accepted healthy eating regimen around. But what, exactly, is it? If you think it’s pasta with red sauce, Italian bread drizzled in olive oil, and plenty of fresh fruit and cheese, you’re wrong—dead wrong. The Mediterranean Zone is here to set you right. Barry Sears, Ph.D., revolutionized dieting with his 1995 bestseller The Zone. In the two decades since its publication, its principles of eating for optimal hormonal balance have become the standard by which diets are measured. Now, in The Mediterranean Zone, you’ll learn how our modern American diet changes the inflammatory response inside our bodies—and how that increased inflammation puts you at risk for Alzheimer’s, diabetes, cancer, and more. You’ll learn which Mediterranean diet foods help put out the fire, reducing your risk of disease while stripping away pounds, boosting your energy, and even lightening your mood! And you’ll learn how to turbocharge the Mediterranean diet to make it even more effective! Live your best life, in your best body, with The Mediterranean Zone. Praise for The Mediterranean Zone “I consider Dr. Barry Sears a mentor, innovator, and wise teacher. The Mediterranean Zone is a powerful new book that will help change your health quickly and permanently. It is not a fad, but a program that will get and keep you well for a very long time.”—Daniel G. Amen, M.D., founder, Amen Clinics, Inc., and bestselling author of Change Your Brain, Change Your Life “The Mediterranean Zone is very readable for the layman, but it also contains some significant new science, particularly in the appendix, for those who really want to learn about the biochemistry of omega-3 fatty acids, polyphenols, and epigenetics. Dr. Sears has clarified many aspects for me regarding the resolution of inflammation. His discussion of eicosanoids and gene transcription factors remains the best I have read. Finally, the dietary circle of anti-inflammatory nutrition is completed by his superb discussion of the value of polyphenols in any diet, and in particular an anti-inflammatory diet. I remain extremely admiring of his ability to take such complicated science and put it in an understandable and useful form.”—Joseph C. Maroon, M.D., professor and vice chairman, Department of Neurological Surgery, Heindl Scholar in Neuroscience, University of Pittsburgh, and team neurosurgeon, Pittsburgh Steelers
Book Synopsis Apocalypse Jukebox by : David Janssen
Download or read book Apocalypse Jukebox written by David Janssen and published by ReadHowYouWant.com. This book was released on 2011-04-25 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From its indefinite beginnings through its broad commercialization and endless reinterpretation, American rock-and-roll music has been preoccupied with an end-of-the-world mentality that extends through the whole of American popular music. In Apocalypse Jukebox, Edward Whitelock and David Janssen trace these connections through American music genres, uncovering a mix of paranoia and hope that characterizes so much of the nation's history. From the book's opening scene, set in the American South during a terrifying 1833 meteor shower, the sense of doom is both palpable and inescapable; a deep foreboding that shadows every subsequent development in American popular music and, as Whitelock and Janssen contend, stands as a key to understanding and explicating America itself. Whitelock and Janssen examine the diversity of apocalyptic influences within North American recorded music, focusing in particular upon a number of influential performers, including Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, John Coltrane, Devo, R.E.M., Sleater-Kinney, and Green Day. In Apocalypse Jukebox, Whitelock and Janssen reveal apocalypse as a permanent and central part of the American character while establishing rock-and-roll as a true reflection of that character.
