Download or read book Cinéma&Cie 28 written by Ilaria A. De Pascalis and published by Mimesis. This book was released on 2018-12-14T00:00:00+01:00 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is the Subaltern in the current global frame? Has neoliberalism changed the experience of subalternity? How do subalterns write history and what kind of history is written about subalternity? Cinéma&Cie’s special issue addresses these and other questions through various theoretical approaches. The essays argue for the importance of a multidisciplinary perspective and address issues of media representation from a variety of perspectives, such as visual culture, history, philosophy, and postcolonialism. They focus on contemporary subalternity, and especially on the migrant – characterized by diaspora and condemned to invisibility by hegemonic power – and the postcolonial subaltern – who has now the possibility to express her/ himself in unexpected ways, in particular by using new media. The scattering and pervasiveness of media devices and gazes is discussed in depth in these essays, which delve into the dialectic between subaltern cultures and agency embodied in the subjects of representation.
Book Synopsis Visualization of Nucleic Acids by : Gerard Morel
Download or read book Visualization of Nucleic Acids written by Gerard Morel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-03-30 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a review of the principle approaches for visualizing DNA and RNA. Using scanning tunneling and atomic force microscopes, the three-dimensional image of the surface of nucleic acids can be seen at atomic-scale resolutions. Spreading methods provide useful details on structural features of isolated molecules, but the major constituent of living matter is water, and the cryomicroscope makes it possible to look at DNA in its aqueous environment. Genes can be detected simultaneously in situ in chromosomes using fluorescent probes, and also at the electron microscopic level. In cells, nucleic acids are localized and quantified by dyes; electron microscopy is used with cytochemical, immunocytological, nuclease, and in situ hybridization methods. The main potential applications for pathological studies are shown with particular aspects such as viral nucleic acids and in situ PCR.

Book Synopsis Protocols for Neural Cell Culture by : Sergey Fedoroff
Download or read book Protocols for Neural Cell Culture written by Sergey Fedoroff and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-06-29 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of Protocols for Neural Cell Culture was published in 1992 and the second edition in 1997. Originally, the publication grew outofprotocols used in the Tissue Culture Course given at the University of Saskatchewan. The course was patterned on those given by the Tissue CultureAssociation, first in Toronto, Canada, in 1948, then in Cooperstown, NY, then Denver, CO, and finally in Madison, WI, where the course ended in 1964. The course in Saskatchewan began in 1963 as a month-long international course that included both animal and plant tissue cultures. Over the years the course underwent specialization, first being limited to animal tissue culture, then to an intensive one-week general course. This led to one-week courses especially designed for tissue culture for the study of cancer or of the cardiovascular or the nervous system. In 1989, the Saskatchewan course became part of the Tissue Culture Training Facility of the Neuroscience Network of the Canadian Network of Centres of Excellence. The course and the Training Facility ceased to exist in 1997. The faculty for the Saskatchewan course was drawn from the best labora tories in the world and laboratory protocols from those centers were thoroughly tested in a student laboratory setting for many years.
