Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Canonical switch-reference is an inflectional category of the verb, which indicates whether or not its subject is identical with the subject of some other verb. Switch-reference may be analyzed from a structural or a functional point of view. Functionally, switch-reference is a device for referential tracking. Formally, switch-reference is almost always a verbal category, similar to the familiar category of verbal concord. In most languages switch-reference marking is indicated by a verbal affix, however in some languages it may be marked by an independent morpheme. The contributions to this volume are concerned with questions of form, function, and genesis of canonical switch-reference systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have we ever wondered why Allah swt uses His name as Allah some places and Rabb in the others? Have we ever wondered what the difference between momin and muslim is? Can we make an argument to prove their meanings from within the Quran? Have we ever wondered why Allah swt uses the word zikar so extensively throughout the Quran; or what the meaning of the word zikar is; or how the meaning of zikar is different from talu, qara, and ratal; and even why there are talu, qara, and ratal, the three different words for reading the Quran? Or have we ever wondered why we are plagued by all kinds of catastrophes? Or why is there so much chaos and conflict in the world, and how can we solve these problems? If we have not wondered about such questions, the reason is that we have not read the Qur’an in its true sense. Today’s Muslims have two main objectives for their children: success in this world and triumph in the life hereafter. Muslim children need natural and social knowledge, but to fully enrich their minds, they also need to learn about the Quran and Islamic traditions. Many Islamic schools in North America are pursuing both of these objectives, but educators often feel that merging these two goals is too difficult. Having spent years teaching in Islamic schools and conducting a wealth of research, Roohi A. Ahmad has observed firsthand how complex the enterprise of Islamic education is. She has also witnessed the void of learning outcomes, teaching goals, and, most importantly, a clear vision and methodology for Islamic education. She has sought to remedy that situation in this book. It provides a practical methodology designed to help Muslim educators create a state-of-the-art Islamic education system that will lead to fully formed students who can function well in this world and ensure a positive outcome in the world to come.

The book improves understanding of the spatial database and explains how to extract information from this for planning purposes. To enhance the knowledge of geoscientists and environmentalists, the book describes the basic fundamental concepts to advance techniques for spatial data management and analysis and discusses the methodology. The Geographic Information System (GIS), remote sensing and Global Positioning System (GPS) are presented in an integrated manner for the planning of resources and infrastructure. The management of these systems is discussed in a very lucid way to develop the reader's skills. The proper procedure for map making and spatial analysis are included along with case studies to the reader. Where the first part of the book discusses the conceptual background, the second part deals with case studies using these applications in different disciplines. The presented case studies include land use, agriculture, flood, watershed characterization and infrastructure assessment for the Sustainable Development Goals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook sets new standards in the diagnosis and therapy of chronically ill people. The research results of important scientists were put into practice. The book shows the way for a long overdue union of conventional medicine and naturopathy. This step leads to another dimension of medicine, by integrating new, synergistic methods. This results in a higher quality, with simultaneous cost efficiency, which can initiate the necessary paradigm shift: from specialist to generalist, who can grasp overarching relationships. Quantum mechanics has made a significant contribution to this and opened up new perspectives. As an internist with extensive additional training in naturopathy, the author has about 50 years of experience in clinics and his own practice. Through intensive research and exchange with many top-class scientists, he has acquired comprehensive knowledge. The focus of his work is on biophysics and the therapeutic methods derived from it. In addition to several specialist books and over 150 publications, this has resulted in his own therapeutic methods and the development of medical products. The author is active as a lecturer at home and abroad.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The technological marvel that facilitated the Apollo missions to the Moon was the on-board computer. In the 1960s most computers filled an entire room, but the spacecraft’s computer was required to be compact and low power. Although people today find it difficult to accept that it was possible to control a spacecraft using such a ‘primitive’ computer, it nevertheless had capabilities that are advanced even by today’s standards. This is the first book to fully describe the Apollo guidance computer’s architecture, instruction format and programs used by the astronauts. As a comprehensive account, it will span the disciplines of computer science, electrical and aerospace engineering. However, it will also be accessible to the ‘space enthusiast’. In short, the intention is for this to be the definitive account of the Apollo guidance computer. Frank O’Brien’s interest in the Apollo program began as a serious amateur historian. About 12 years ago, he began performing research and writing essays for the Apollo Lunar Surface Journal, and the Apollo Flight Journal. Much of this work centered on his primary interests, the Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC) and the Lunar Module. These Journals are generally considered the canonical online reference on the flights to the Moon. He was then asked to assist the curatorial staff in the creation of the Cradle of Aviation Museum, on Long Island, New York, where he helped prepare the Lunar Module simulator, a LM procedure trainer and an Apollo space suit for display. He regularly lectures on the Apollo computer and related topics to diverse groups, from NASA's computer engineering conferences, the IEEE/ACM, computer festivals and university student groups.
