Book excerpt: In an axial volume from his celebrated compendium, the "Ihya ulum al din," al-Ghazali shares his startling and original exploration of the meaning of trust in Divine Providence and recommends specific spiritual skills to help the seeker develop a state whereby he or she may rightly respond to events as they happen. Book Synopsis Divine Audacity by : Linda Martella-Whitsette
Download or read book Divine Audacity written by Linda Martella-Whitsette and published by Hampton Roads Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-01 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experience Oneness with the Divine and Light Up the World On the publication of her first book, Larry Dossey, MD, author of Prayer Is Good Medicine , wrote: “Martella-Whitsett is a wise guide." Her new book makes the audacious claim that each of us can be “the light of the world” Jesus instructed his followers to be. Martella-Whitsett offers a path for living a deep and authentic life outside of the strictures of traditional religious categories. A refreshing approach, in essence, on how to be spiritual without being religious. We need to jettison the idea of a God who is out there and above us. God is not a super-human who gives and takes, punishes and rewards. God does not require human suffering and repentance. We truly find God when we go inside to connect with divine light, realize our oneness with God and others, and let our light shine in the world. Martella-Whittset looks at what “divine light” is and how it is both audacious and normal to claim it for ourselves. Next she introduces us to 12 spiritual powers we can all develop and learn to use on a daily basis: faith, understanding, will, imagination, zeal power, love, wisdom, strength, order, release, and life itself. When we consciously shine our spiritual powers on ourselves, not only are our lives improved, but all of humanity can be enriched and transformed. Let your light shine!
Book Synopsis The Divine Unity of Scripture by : Adolph Saphir
Download or read book The Divine Unity of Scripture written by Adolph Saphir and published by . This book was released on 1892 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lectures of Dr. Saphir were delivered in Kensington, at the close of 1889 and beginning of 1890. They are, in some respects, the most important of all his writings, as they give, in connected form, his matured views of the relation of the two great divisions of the Bible. No preacher or writer of our day had such a clear insight into the spirit and connection of the sacred writings. This was the great charm of his preaching, which made it so attractive to many earnest-minded Christians of all churches. - Preface.
Download or read book The Covenant of God written by J Daniel and published by . This book was released on 2021-04-06 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity is currently standing at the threshold of the Kingdom of God on earth, promised by Jesus the Christ, and brought to fruition through the Revelation of the second Advent of Messiah ben David. Soon the winds of chastisement will blow fiercely across the land and all that was spoken by the Prophets of old will come to pass. Civilization has become weighed down by the perversities of the human race. Like a cancer; prejudice, greed, self-interests, hatred and war, have, for too long, spread it's sores among the people, dividing the human family and robbing the spiritual powers latent within. Bent with despair, the people of the world long for hope from under the corruption and unjust policies of those who have power and authority over them. The people of the world are in need of the understanding of God's purpose for humankind as provided within His Covenant, a Covenant given long ago unto Abraham The Covenant of God offers the reader a clear, understandable and compelling look into the history of this Covenant. It explains how this Covenant, beginning with Abraham as a two-part Covenant, is fulfilled in our present age. The hope for all humankind is our obedience to this Covenant of God and to Divine Law that in reality provides true freedom. This essential fact, for the peaceful co-existence of all peoples and nations cannot be argued against by the philosopher, politician or cleric.
Download or read book Ecce Homo written by Aaron Riches and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2016-05-10 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interacting with theologians throughout the ages, Riches narrates the development of the church’s doctrine of Christ as an increasingly profound realization that the depth of the difference between the human being and God is realized, in fact, only in the perfect union of divinity and humanity in the one Christ. He sets the apostolic proclamation in its historical, theological, philosophical, and mystical context, showing that, as the starting point of “orthodoxy,” it forecloses every theological attempt to divide or reduce the “one Lord Jesus Christ.”
Download or read book Unity in Faith? written by J. M. White and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2020-11-03 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The little known history of an attempt to end a religious schism in imperial Russia, and the questions it raised about church and state. Established in 1800, edinoverie (translated as “unity in faith”) was intended to draw back those who had broken with the Russian Orthodox Church over ritual reforms in the seventeenth century. Called Old Believers, they had been persecuted as heretics. In time, the Russian state began tolerating Old Believers in order to lure them out of hiding and make use of their financial resources as a means of controlling and developing Russia’s vast and heterogeneous empire. However, the Russian Empire was also an Orthodox state, and conversion from Orthodoxy constituted a criminal act. So, which was better for ensuring the stability of the Russian Empire: managing heterogeneity through religious toleration, or enforcing homogeneity through missionary campaigns? Edinoverie remained contested and controversial throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, as it was distrusted by both the Orthodox Church and the Old Believers themselves. The state reinforced this ambivalence, using edinoverie as a means by which to monitor Old Believer communities and employing it as a carrot to the stick of prison, exile, and the deprivation of rights. In Unity in Faith?, James White’s study of edinoverie offers an unparalleled perspective of the complex triangular relationship between the state, the Orthodox Church, and religious minorities in imperial Russia.
