Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: À la rencontre du cinéma français: analyse, genre, histoire is intended to serve as the core textbook in a wide variety of upper-level undergraduate and graduate French cinema courses. In contrast to content-, theme-, or issue-based approaches to film, Professor Berg stresses “the cinematically specific, the warp and fabric of the film itself, the stuff of which it is made.' Sufficient proficiency in French is the sole prerequisite: “No previous background in film studies is assumed, nor is any prior acquaintance with French cinema. It will help, of course, to like movies, and to have seen quite a few…' (from the preface).

Download or read book Framed! written by Lucy Bolton and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2007 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Broaching the notion of the 'frame' from a variety of analytic perspectives, and employing a range of approaches, this collection of articles engages with contemporary debates on text and image relations, literary reception and translation, narratology and cinematographic technique. The various contributions to this collection provide new readings in their respective fields, and share a common concern with exploring the productive and problematic notion of the 'frame' and of 'framing' in a wide variety of cultural media in French Studies. This interdisciplinary analysis of literary and theoretical texts, visual art and film allows for fruitful connections to be made at the level of analysis of themes and of methodology. It thus provides material that is of interest both to specialists in these fields, and also to those seeking a more general introduction to each area. This collection of articles is selected from the proceedings of the 'Framed! in French Studies' workshop, held at the Institut Français in London in February 2006.
Book Synopsis European Disintegration? by : Douglas Webber
Download or read book European Disintegration? written by Douglas Webber and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-20 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new book provides a comprehensive analysis of Europe on the brink of political disintegration. Observers of the European Union (EU) could be forgiven for thinking that it is in a state of permanent crisis. The Union has been beset with high levels of Eurozone debt, Russian intervention and armed conflict in Ukraine, refugees fleeing conflict zones in North Africa and the Middle East, and the decision of Britain to leave the European Union. This text offers a concise and readable assessment of the dynamics, character and consequences of these four crises and the increasingly real possibility of European disintegration. High levels of socio-economic interdependence and institutionalization have failed to result in an ever closer union, and yet the proposed theories of disintegration also fall short. Webber instead shows that it is only by looking at the role of the EU's dominant member, Germany, in each crisis that the potential for an increasingly fragmented Europe becomes clear. Until now, Germany has been the EU's stabilizing force but this is no longer guaranteed. The fate of the integration process will depend on whether other, more inclusive forms of stabilizing leadership may emerge to fill the vacuum created by Berlin's incapacity. This text is the ideal companion for upper undergraduate and postgraduate students of the European Union, as part of degrees in politics, international relations or European studies, or for anyone interested in the crises of the European Union.
Book Synopsis Contemporary African Cinema by : Olivier Barlet
Download or read book Contemporary African Cinema written by Olivier Barlet and published by MSU Press. This book was released on 2016-08-01 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: African and notably sub-Saharan African film’s relative eclipse on the international scene in the early twenty-first century does not transcend the growth within the African genre. This time period has seen African cinema forging a new relationship with the real and implementing new aesthetic strategies, as well as the emergence of a post-colonial popular cinema. Drawing on more than 1,500 articles, reviews, and interviews written over the past fifteen years, Olivier Barlet identifies the critical questions brought about by the evolution of African cinema. In the process, he offers us a personal and passionate vision, making this book an indispensable sum of thought that challenges preconceived ideas and enriches an approach to cinema as a critical art.
Book Synopsis Pari de la Franchise by : Stéphane Dion
Download or read book Pari de la Franchise written by Stéphane Dion and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1999-10-29 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
