Book excerpt: The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, or PBGV as the breed is usually called, is an ancient wirehaired basset breed of France that continues to gain popularity in the US and around the world. This beguiling hound is aptly called the "Happy Breed" due to his sunny disposition and his ever-wagging tail, sure to cheer up his owners even on their bluest days. Breeders prize the PBGV's tousled appearance, robust construction and his lively bearing. He is not only a home companion with class and style, he is also an active weekend sports dog, a bold hunter, a naturally attractive show dog and a talented performance dog.

This book was released on 2015-03-12 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book (Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen ) provides you with a through description and positive attributes of this breed including origin, purpose, history, normal heights and weights, acceptable colors and behavioral traits. Our books differ from most books on dog breeds because this book also provides you with a comprehensive and authoritative source of all the known predisposed hereditary health syndromes for the breed. You will find extensive references for each problem described. We also provide the breed club address for this breed and a list of laboratories and organizations that can provide professional help and information. As a small animal veterinarian, I have always been intrigued by the way dogs have been bred to fill a purpose in life and further impressed that they also tend to love performing that service. Greyhounds and other sight hounds are built for speed with aerodynamic bodies consisting of small head, deep chest, narrow waist and large leg muscles. On the other hand Dachshunds take their name from German words meaning badger dog and they use their long nose, long body and short legs to both track, enter and dig into badger dens. After developing a practice that catered to clients with show dogs, my interest in each breed continued to grow as I studied and observed more and more about the unique predisposition and incidence of health problems in each breed. Breeders of purebred dogs for show were a challenge and inspirational for me to research and help them with their unique health problems. Historically references to hereditary problems are scattered throughout various Veterinary medical texts and journals such as ophthalmology, neurology, gastroenterology, cardiovascular and dermatology. This book, as well as the other books and articles I have written, is researched and compiled with the intention to provide both veterinarians and dog owners with comprehensive and authoritative predisposition information under the breed name. At the date of this publication, The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation and the The Kennel Club of England reports over 400 known hereditary health syndromes throughout the dog kingdom. At the writing of my first book in 1983, less than 50 hereditary issues are able to be predicted and or diagnosed. Sequencing of the canine genome, DNA tests, metabolic testing including blood tests and urine testing; plus, phenotypic examinations such as radiographs, ultrasound, and CERF or OFA eye registry exams by a Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist have advanced the science of breed related health and behavioral problems. This book will provide veterinarians, researchers, pet owners and breeders with a comprehensive guide to all the known problems veterinarians and dog owners should consider during pet selection and throughout each life stage of our canine friends.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive compendium of canine varieties—from purebreds to designer doodles—from the acclaimed author of The Spirit of the Dog. One glance around the local park will confirm that man’s best friend comes in many varieties. As the first animal domesticated by humans, dogs have been selectively bred for tens of thousands of years to be herders, hunters, guard dogs, and friends. The result is a plethora of breeds that are as different as the pint-sized chihuahua and the massive St. Bernard. Now there is a guide to each of them. Dogs Unleashed contains all the information required to differentiate breeds of canine. From the standard poodle to the Finnish spitz, readers will become experts of identification. Alongside beautiful photography, discover information on conformation, history, temperament, health risks, and more. This book even contains a section on today’s designer breeds like the labradoodle, the puggle, and the cockapoo. Ideal for researching a new family pet, or for general knowledge, this book reveals which dogs are the most expensive to keep, which are the best swimmers, and which breed has the longest life expectancy.

So, you’ve been daydreaming about the day you’ll finally meet that perfect dog who’ll become your shadow, your best buddy, and maybe even your couch hog, right? Choosing the right breed can feel like trying to pick just one show to binge on tv. Exciting? Totally. But also a bit overwhelming. This is where Woof-A-Pedia: The Ultimate Dog Breed Guide comes to the rescue—like a superhero in a cape, but, you know, with paws. This isn’t just another run-of-the-mill guide. Nope. Woof-A-Pedia is your secret weapon to help you navigate the crazy world of dog breeds like a total pro. Think of it as your personal doggie matchmaker—complete with in-depth profiles of both popular and quirky breeds, insider tips on what to think about before bringing home a new four-legged friend, and key advice on how to pick the right dog for you, your family, and your lifestyle. Here’s the thing: Picking the right dog isn’t just about those adorable puppy eyes (though let’s be honest, they totally help). It’s about finding a breed whose temperament, exercise needs, and grooming habits won’t drive you up the wall—or force you into daily battles with a vacuum cleaner. With Woof-A-Pedia by your side, you’ll have all the info you need to make a decision that’s smart, well-thought-out, and, let’s be real, life-changing. Because there’s nothing quite like finding that furry soulmate who just gets you. What’s Inside? Oh, Just About Everything You Need! The Ultimate Doggo Profiles: Ever wondered what it's like to live with a Labrador Retriever? Or maybe you’ve been curious about a breed like the Sloughi (yes, it’s a thing). Temperament & Personality Deets: Want a loyal sidekick who’ll stick by your side through thick and thin? Or maybe a playful goofball who’ll keep the kids entertained? Lifestyle Matchmaker (Because, Let’s Be Real, Dogs Have Preferences Too): You’ve got a routine, and you need a dog that fits into it—not one that turns your life upside down. If you’re a city dweller, the last thing you need is a dog that demands a marathon run at 6 a.m. Health & Grooming 101: Some dogs are pretty chill when it comes to grooming, while others? Well, let’s just say they might as well be furry divas needing constant touch-ups. We’ll break down each breed’s health quirks and grooming needs so you’ll know whether you’re signing up for a low-maintenance pal or a full-on glam squad situation. Training Tips for First-Time (and Seasoned) Dog Owners: Ever seen a dog strut down the street, leash in hand, acting like they own the neighborhood? Don’t be that person. This guide will show you the basics—from crate training to mastering leash manners—so you can set your pup up for success from day one. Think of it as dog parenting but without the diapers. Ready to Meet Your New Best Friend? What are you waiting for? Stop dreaming and start doing!
