Book excerpt: I was fifty-six when I had the stroke. It was the month of May, and that was the best month in my practice. My stroke was preventable, but I was too busy making money. It was too late to do anything but suffer. After I retired and sold my urgent cares, I decided to write a book on stroke prevention. I read about forty books on stroke and spent three years thinking what to write. I wrote a booklet on stroke prevention. It was well liked but had no pictures. Everybody wanted me to add pictures, so I added pictures. Those are my original pictures. To my surprise, they turned out so good there is nothing in published literature to match with them. The book is written so that it is very easy to read and understand. The pictures are self-explanatory. I think I have produced a masterpiece, and I hope people will benefit from it and prevent strokes. Everybody over age fifty-one should read my book and pay attention to stroke prevention. Nobody is immune to stroke.

Book excerpt: When there's a problem, what people want most of all is information. This applies especially when the problem is a medical one which is affecting either themselves or a family member. Doctors sometimes just don't have the time to explain everything in detail and to answer every question. As a consequence, patients and their families must turn to other sources of information, such as articles, books, and the internet. However, it is difficult, if not impossible, for the lay public to know whether the information they are getting is accurate and up to date. Hence this new book series. All the books in the 'Explained' Series are written especially for the lay public by top specialists, so the reader can be assured that he or she is getting the correct advice. CONTENTS: Introduction; What is a stroke?; Causes and risk factors; What are the symptoms of stroke?; How is stroke diagnosed?; The ideal consultation - what should I tell my doctor?; What treatments are available; Recovery and complications; Frequently asked questions; Case Studies.

You are called STAT!Acute stroke management has changed dramatically in recent years. Tremendous advances have been made in acute treatments, diagnostic neuroimaging, and organized systems of care, and are enabling better outcomes for patients.
