Book Synopsis Organic Photochromes by : A.V. El'tsov

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Only a small part of the numerous photochemical reactions in organic compounds result in reversible structural changes. The latter are accom panied by a change in physical properties, in particular, of electronic spectra. It is tempting to try to use this photochromic effect in various systems for controlling and regulating light fluxes and for data recording. Eventually an independent trend emerged in photochemistry - the study of the photochromism of organic compounds to establish relationships between structure and photochemical behavior, the theoretical analysis of these relationships to predict structures with pre-set photochromic parameters, and, finally, the identification of suitable areas for the application of photochromism. This monograph summarizes the results of recent studies carried out by a number of research institutions in the USSR and the GDR. Devoted to an important aspect of applied photochemistry, this monograph contains a detailed exposition of the chemical photochromes referred to briefly in the earlier editions of "Introduction to the Photochemistry of Organic Compounds" (Khimiya Press, Moscow, 1976) and "Photochemical Proces ses in Layers" (Khimiya Press, Moscow, 1978).

Download or read book Photochromic Materials written by He Tian and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summarizing all the latest trends and recent topics in one handy volume, this book covers everything needed for a solid understanding of photochromic materials. Following a general introduction to organic photochromic materials, the authors move on to discuss not only the underlying theory but also the properties of such materials. After a selection of pplications, they look at the latest achievements in traditional solution-phase applications, including photochromic-based molecular logic operations and memory, optically modulated supramolecular system and sensors, as well as light-tunable chemical reactions. The book then describes the hotspot areas of photo-switchable surfaces and nanomaterials, photochromic-based luminescence/electronic devices and bulk materials together with light-regulated biological and bio-chemical systems. The authors conclude with a focus on current industrial applications and the future outlook for these materials. Written with both senior researchers and entrants to the field in mind.

Book Synopsis Chemical Triggering by : Gebran J. Sabongi
Download or read book Chemical Triggering written by Gebran J. Sabongi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical reactions which can, on demand, be switched on and off are valuable for industrial applications. In order to make the best use ofthese reactions, it is essential to have them readily available for a research chemist. The chemical literature, in general, has not yet identified or grouped such reactions. However, their existence is relatively abundant. This book is meant as a survey ofthose reactions which have potential utility in industrially useful processes. These reactions are grouped under the title ofchemical release reactions which can be triggered by heat, light, electric current, etc., to release a specific compound from, or change in the physical or chemical properties of, a unimolecular reactant. The book is divided into chapters covering ways to trigger the release of certain chemicals. Each chapter is further divided into sections, each beginning with a brief introduction ofanalogies ofthe discussed reactions and of how they were used in reported industrial processes. This survey is not meant to be absolute or exhaustive but rather to be directive, to be as complete as possible, and to provide food for further thought.

Book Synopsis Plenary and Invited Lectures by : Milton Kerker
Download or read book Plenary and Invited Lectures written by Milton Kerker and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 681 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colloid and Interface Science, Volume I: Plenary and Invited Lectures contains papers presented at the International Conference on Colloids and Surfaces, held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, 21-25 June 1976. It consists of the plenary and invited papers, and a general overview of these papers by A. M. Schwartz. These papers were given during the morning sessions. The volume is organized into 10 parts. Part I contains papers on surface forces. Parts II and III present studies on catalysis and aerosols, respectively. Part IV examines solid surfaces, focusing on newer techniques for exploring surface structure and surface reactions. The papers in Part V deal with water at interfaces, including a lecture on the behavior and structure of water at inorganic surfaces including metals, oxides, and silicates. Part VI covers the rheology of disperse systems, including papers on the effect of inertial forces on the motion of solids through liquids and theoretical studies on diffusive heat flux. Part VII takes up stability and instability in disperse systems, steric stabilization, and colloidal stability. Parts VIII and IX examine biological membranes and surface thermodynamics, respectively. Part X on liquid crystals includes discussion of the structures and properties of this state of matter.
