Chemists and engineers in industry and academia know that they can rely on the knowledge and expertise of around 3,000 first-class authors. The Fifth Edition, now available in print as a complete set, is a monumental reference work containing about 1,000 major articles, more than 16 million words, 30,000 figures, 10,000 tables, and innumerable references to further sources of information. Ullmann's users worldwide testify that this superb encyclopedia contains the most complete and up-to-date coverage of chemical technology currently available, including economic aspects, production, transportation, and toxicology. Ullmann's is unsurpassed in terms of organization and presentation. The encyclopedia consists of 37 volumes: 28 "A" volumes, 8 "B" volumes, and one cumulative Index volume. Volumes A1 - A28 contain alphabetically ordered articles on industrial chemicals, product groups, and production processes. Volumes B1 - B8 describe in detail the principles of chemical engineering, new and proven analytical methods, and the essentials of environmental protection technology. "This is a major work, which will prove immensely valuable to institutions and authorities related to the chemical industry." - Chemistry & Industry "...no science or engineering library should be without it." - Angewandte Chemie "Ullmann's might well be preferred...because of its many convenience features and excellent organisation." - Chemical Engineering

This book was released on 2013-07-04 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) are responsible for protecting species that are listed as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and for protecting habitats that are critical for their survival. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is responsible for registering or reregistering pesticides under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and must ensure that pesticide use does not cause any unreasonable adverse effects on the environment, which is interpreted to include listed species and their critical habitats. The agencies have developed their own approaches to evaluating environmental risk, and their approaches differ because their legal mandates, responsibilities, institutional cultures, and expertise differ. Over the years, the agencies have tried to resolve their differences but have been unsuccessful in reaching a consensus regarding their assessment approaches. As a result, FWS, NMFS, EPA, and the US Department of Agriculture asked the National Research Council (NRC) to examine scientific and technical issues related to determining risks posed to listed species by pesticides. Specifically, the NRC was asked to evaluate methods for identifying the best scientific data available; to evaluate approaches for developing modeling assumptions; to identify authoritative geospatial information that might be used in risk assessments; to review approaches for characterizing sublethal, indirect, and cumulative effects; to assess the scientific information available for estimating effects of mixtures and inert ingredients; and to consider the use of uncertainty factors to account for gaps in data. Assessing Risks to Endangered and Threatened Species from Pesticides, which was prepared by the NRC Committee on Ecological Risk Assessment under FIFRA and ESA, is the response to that request.

This book was released on 1999-06-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first release of the Sixth Edition of Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry is now available. More than 80 articles have been revised and brought up-to-date, and new developments have also been taken into account by the inclusion of completely new articles, such as 'Molecular Modeling in Industry'. Again, the outstanding high quality of the content distinguishes Ullmann's from other reference works: all data have been checked, all articles have been designed to meet the users' needs. And added to all this are the advantages of a superb user interface: quick access, clear screen design, convenient and powerful search facilities, and the possibility to attach user notes or to paste text sections into other Windows applications are just a few of the attractive features of this networkable in-house database. Stronger than ever, Ullmann's is the definitive reference work for all fields of Industrial Chemistry, and it will keep its pole position for the next generations. From recent reviews: "The user interface is excellent: simple, clear, and highly functional. [...] The search window is powerful. [...] The super user interface makes the electronic version a big improvement over the paper fifth edition." - The Alchemist (ChemWeb) "Every user in industry and academia will be enthusiastic about this comprehensive and excellently conceived electronic reference work." - Chemie Ingenieur Technik "The Fifth Edition is the culmination of 80 years experience and tradition, fully international in scope and presentation with articles of the highest quality. It deserves a place in every library that aspires to offer comprehensive reference material on industrial chemistry. I can recommend it without reservation." - Angewandte Chemie

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Survey of Industrial Chemistry arose from a need for a basic text dealing with industrial chemistry for use in a one semester, three-credit senior level course taught at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. This edition covers all important areas of the chemical industry, yet it is reasonable that it can be covered in 40 hours of lecture. Also an excellent resource and reference for persons working in the chemical and related industries, it has sections on all important technologies used by these industries: a one-step source to answer most questions on practical, applied chemistry. Young scientists and engineers just entering the workforce will find it especially useful as a readily available handbook to prepare them for a type of chemistry quite different than they have seen in their traditional coursework, whether graduate or undergraduate.
