Book excerpt: In writing this book I felt a need to explain how important it is that one knows himself/herself while growing up in life which as you can see I didn’t. That inner feeling that I kept getting was the enemy trying to put me in a position I could never come out of. It controlled me during most of my life. There were always signs pointing to the right choices to make but when you are caught up in what you feel is the success of your life, you never pay attention to those signs, you go with the flow of the moment. Twilight Nights has a second part to it that will explain in detail that recognition of signs and how to respond to them so you are aware of who is leading you. It shouldn’t take a life time to here your calling unless you’ve been transformed into one that has become a part of this world. Thank God he let me know I was not apart of this world just in this world and that’s what saved me. This book is a very interesting read and for those that just like entertainment you will get a thrill out of this book but for those looking for something else there is a message in this message that only the spirit of God can reveal. The word of God says “we fight against principalities and wicked spirits in high places.” Learn to know God so you can stand against the wiles of the enemy and his Spirit will guide you into his truth. ENJOY!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Werner Schroeter was a leading figure of New German Cinema. In more than forty films made between 1967 and 2008, including features, documentaries, and shorts, he ignored conventional narrative, creating instead dense, evocative collages of image and sound. For years, his work was eclipsed by contemporaries such as Wim Wenders, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Werner Herzog, and Alexander Kluge. Yet his work has become known to a wider audience through several recent retrospectives, including at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Written in the last years of his life, Days of Twilight, Nights of Frenzy sees Schroeter looking back at his life with the help of film critic and friend Claudia Lenssen. Born in 1945, Schroeter grew up near Heidelberg and spent just a few weeks in film school before leaving to create his earliest works. Over the years, he would work with acclaimed artists, including Marianne Hopps, Isabelle Huppert, Candy Darling, and Christine Kaufmann. In the 1970s, Schroeter also embarked on prolific parallel careers in theater and opera, where he worked in close collaboration with the legendary diva Maria Callas. His childhood; his travels in Italy, France, and Latin America; his coming out and subsequent life as an gay man in Europe; and his run-ins with Hollywood are but a few of the subjects Schroeter recalls with insights and characteristic understated humor. A sharp, lively, even funny memoir, Days of Twilight, Nights of Frenzy captures Schroeter’s extravagant life vividly over a vast prolific career, including many stories that might have been lost were it not for this book. It is sure to fascinate cinephiles and anyone interested in the culture around film and the arts.

In informative conversations with the author, successful conductors Leonard Slatkin, Robert Spano, and JoAnn Falletta offer tips from personal experience on how music directors can work successfully with orchestras, and what their roles are with the board and the community.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ignored Biblical Hebrew Record relating to the Pre-Historical Past conclusively invalidates all conventional and current theories of creation such as Traditional Six-day Young Earth Creationism, Progressive Creationism, Theistic Evolution and Creation Science. Pre-Historical Pre-Adamic Biblical Theology dares to look back in time through the eyes of the OT/NT Prophets and Teachers and validate overlooked pre-historical realities. Subsequently, it seeks to convincingly figure out the future by attempting to understand pre-historical past realities. Traditional and current views relating to Creation and Origins lack convincing Biblical credibility. Scriptures relating to prehistoric creation, however, advocate Pre-Historical Pre-Adamic realities, that can’t be ignored; hence, the same need to be convincingly accepted as biblical truth a propos God’s pre-historical works of creation; notwithstanding, faulty interpretations of Scriptures relating to Creation. This maiden Treatise, should pose a definite challenge to predisposed Creationists to disprove its assertions. Unbiased readers of this Treatise, who take their time to study and ascertain the truthfulness of what is presented herein will, hopefully, believe convincingly. Nonetheless, those who are biased will perhaps continue to hang on to traditional sacrosanct beliefs no matter how gravely the same diverge from the pattern of Biblical-Hebrew Words relating to Creation and Origins! Book excerpt: This book examines many examples of the nocturnal behaviour of birds. For many people, watching and studying birds is exclusively a day time activity. However, for many birds twilight and night time are not a barrier to useful activity. It is true that very few birds are exclusively nocturnal, but many birds which are active by day also conduct limited, and often crucial, activities after dusk. Examples range from the occasional night feeding of wildfowl and shorebirds to the night singing and night migration of certain passerines, and from the location of nest sites by sea birds to the nocturnal foraging of owls and nightjars. The special cases of flightless nocturnal birds and those birds which dwell in lightless caves are also considered. Throughout, this survey considers not only what it is that birds do at night but also discusses how these nocturnal activities are possible. It brings together studies in field ornithology, sensory science, ecology and physics and involves comparisons of the sensory capacities of other animals, including man. It is shown how the senses of hearing, smell and touch, as well as vision, play a crucial role in many of the night time activities of birds. However, these senses are not always adequate for fully explaining how nocturnal behaviours are executed. To achieve this we must look at the complex of relationships between behavioural and sensory adaptations and the particular environments which birds inhabit from dusk to dawn.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until recently, the prevailing view of marine life at high latitudes has been that organisms enter a general resting state during the dark Polar Night and that the system only awakens with the return of the sun. Recent research, however, with coordinated, multidisciplinary field campaigns based on the high Arctic Archipelago of Svalbard, have provided a radical new perspective. Instead of a system in dormancy, a new perspective of a system in full operation and with high levels of activity across all major phyla is emerging. Examples of such activities and processes include: Active marine organisms at sea surface, water column and the sea-floor. At surface we find active foraging in seabirds and fish, in the water column we find a high biodiversity and activity of zooplankton and larvae such as active light induced synchronized diurnal vertical migration, and at seafloor there is a high biodiversity in benthic animals and macroalgae. The Polar Night is a period for reproduction in many benthic and pelagic taxa, mass occurrence of ghost shrimps (Caprellides), high abundance of Ctenophores, physiological evidence of micro- and macroalgal cells that are ready to utilize the first rays of light when they appear, deep water fishes found at water surface in the Polar night, and continuous growth of bivalves throughout the winter. These findings not only begin to shape a new paradigm for marine winter ecology in the high Arctic, but also provide conclusive evidence for a top-down controlled system in which primary production levels are close to zero. In an era of environmental change that is accelerated at high latitudes, we believe that this new insight is likely to strongly impact how the scientific community views the high latitude marine ecosystem. Despite the overwhelming darkness, the main environmental variable affecting marine organisms in the Polar Night is in fact light. The light regime during the Polar Night is unique with respect to light intensity, spectral composition of light and photoperiod.
