Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this commentary, Paul Hoskins provides an accessible guide for those who want to understand the book of Revelation. He points out Revelation's many connections to the Old Testament, the theology of John, and biblical theology. He shows how useful these connections can be for interpreting Revelation and appreciating its richness. In addition, Hoskins brings out the relevance of the book of Revelation for Christians in John's day as well as in our own. Technical details and interaction with scholarly discussions are handled in footnotes in order to minimize confusion for the average reader. A well-researched and carefully presented work of Evangelical scholarship, this commentary provides a good starting place for Christians who are looking for insight into the book of Revelation.

Book excerpt: IT is certainly cause for deep regret that to so many Christians the Book of Revelation seems to be what God never intended it should be-a sealed book. The book of Daniel was to be sealed till the time of the end (Dan. 12:9), but of Revelation it is written: "Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand" (Chap. 22:10). It is clearly evident that this portion of Holy Scripture was given for our instruction and edification, but thousands of the Lord's people permit themselves to be robbed of blessing by ignoring it. Significantly enough, it is the one book of the Bible which begins and ends with a blessing pronounced on those who read and keep what is written therein (Chap. 1:3; 22:7). Surely God did not mean to mock us by promising a blessing on all who keep what they cannot hope to understand! It is only unbelief that would so reason. Faith delights to appropriate every part of the sacred record, and finds that "they are all clear to him that understandeth." The true title is given us in the opening verse. It is, "The Revelation of Jesus Christ;" not "The Revelation of St. John the Divine." There is no MS. authority for this latter designation, and it shows all too plainly how far some early editor had slipped away from first principles. John was a saint as all believers are saints. He was not a divine! Such a title would have amazed him beyond measure. Nor is the book the revelation of John or of any other servant of God. It is the revelation of Jesus Christ Himself. The word rendered "revelation," and sometimes "apocalypse," means literally an unveiling, or manifestation. So this book is the unveiling of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is its one great theme. It presents Him as the Son of Man in the midst of the churches during the present dispensation; and as the Judge and the King in the dispensations to come. If you would learn to appreciate Christ more, read this book, frequently and prayerfully. It reveals Him as the Lamb rejected, soon to reign in glory-the Lamb on the throne!

Guided by accessible teaching that lets Scripture speak for itself, you’ll take a closer look at the timeline of what believers and nonbelievers will experience before, during, and after the tribulation plan that the Lord has specifically prepared for the people of Israel in the end times encouragements, challenges, and warnings Jesus Himself gave to prepare us for His return Revealing Revelation provides an eye-opening look at what lies ahead for every person in the end times—either in heaven or on earth. Are you prepared for what is to come?

Book excerpt: John's Book of Revelation - the Apocalypse - has been subjected to countless interpretations by theologians over the years, mostly based on theory and speculation. In contrast, Rudolf Steiner spoke from his own direct experience and knowledge of the spiritual truths contained in St John's mysterious pictures.Although he had previously presented his insights into the Book of Revelation a number of times, in 1924 Steiner ventured to give a completely new perspective - in response to a request by priests of The Christian Community - by relating the subject closely to the work of the modern priest. 'These priests felt the need to achieve a closer relationship with the Book of Revelation', he wrote later. 'I believed I would be able to contribute to such a closer relationship. The spiritual paths I follow had enabled me to trace the apocalyptist's footsteps. So I felt that with this course of lectures I would be able to achieve a depiction that would convey this priestly book in its true sense as a spiritual guide for the priest.'

This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Four Short Lectures on the Book of the Revelation 1. This book, as all Scripture, should be interpreted according to the plain grammatical and literal meaning of the words used, giving each word the exact sense it bears in all other books. 2. The book is not, as is commonly thought, a book of symbols, although there are symbols in it. It should be read as, in the main, a literal prophecy of events to transpire in a future period closely preceding and following the return of Jesus to the earth. It is a message from the ascended Savior pertaining to his second coming. 3. The theory that a day means a year must be rejected: and the forty-two months, twelve hundred and sixty days, ten days, &c., be regarded as simple measures of time. 4. The dispensation in which we are living is non-prophetic and void time. 5. Reject the idea that the Revelation describes the history of the Christian Church during this dispensation. 6. It is also necessary to believe that in the mysterious orderings of Divine Providence, the old Eastern Roman Empire is to become resuscitated. It will yet be an attraction such as our California was in 1849, and the old empire become re-existent, old cities rebuilt, and called by their old names, Jerusalem and Babylon among others, and they will meet with great worldly prosperity for awhile. This will probably occur in the interval between the coming of the Lord down into the air for his saints and his subsequent descent with them to the earth in judgment. 7. The nineteenth verse of the first chapter describes two divisions of the book and not three, as is inferred from our English New Testament. The first division embraces the things which John saw, and what they signify, contained in the first five chapters. The second division embraces the things which are about to happen after these, contained in the rest of the book. 8. No reference to popery can be met with in Scripture. 9. The topic of the book being the second coming, it saves confusion to know that there are two stages to the Advent: First - the Lord comes down into the air for the purpose stated in the first five chapters. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revelation is probably the most read, but least understood book of the Bible. History is replete with examples of how not to interpret it, and books featuring end-of-world prophecy claims based on Revelation consistently top the bestseller lists. But how can the message of such an enigmatic book be applied to our lives today? In Discipleship on the Edge, Darrell W. Johnson drives home the challenging and practical message of Revelation in thirty carefully crafted sermons. Paying careful attention to the original context of Revelation and the circumstances surrounding its composition, Johnson shows that the book is not a "crystal ball" but rather a "discipleship manual." Thoroughly researched and yet accessible, this collection of sermons is a helpful resource for pastors and small group leaders who are looking for models to help them preach and teach the message of Revelation in a time when there is much confusion about the end times. Darrell W. Johnson serves as Scholar-in-Residence at The Way Church and Canadian Church Leaders Network in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. A popular conference and retreat speaker, he has also served as the preaching pastor for a number of congregations in North America and the Philippines, as well as serving as Adjunct Professor of Preaching for the Doctor of Ministry program at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, and a Teaching Fellow at Regent College. His other books include Experiencing the Trinity and Fifty-Seven Words That Change The World.
