Book Synopsis The Holocaust in Greece by : Giorgos Antoniou
Download or read book The Holocaust in Greece written by Giorgos Antoniou and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-01 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the sizeable Jewish community living in Greece during the 1940s, German occupation of Greece posed a distinct threat. The Nazis and their collaborators murdered around ninety percent of the Jewish population through the course of the war. This new account presents cutting edge research on four elements of the Holocaust in Greece: the level of antisemitism and question of collaboration; the fate of Jewish property before, during, and after their deportation; how the few surviving Jews were treated following their return to Greece, especially in terms of justice and restitution; and the ways in which Jewish communities rebuilt themselves both in Greece and abroad. Taken together, these elements point to who was to blame for the disaster that befell Jewish communities in Greece, and show that the occupation authorities alone could not have carried out these actions to such magnitude without the active participation of Greek Christians.

Book Synopsis A Whole Little City by Itself by : Wayne Norton
Download or read book A Whole Little City by Itself written by Wayne Norton and published by Kamloops, B.C. : Plateau Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For more than fifty years, victims of tuberculosis in British columbia received treatment at the Tranquille Sanatorium. Once regarded as among the finest institutions of its kind in North America, the facility closed when drug therapies made the sanatorium's combination of rest, sunshine and fresh air seem out of fashion. Today, as the abandoned bnuilding quickly fall into disrepair, their demolition seems imminent. Already, the history they represent is largely forgotten. The book presented here reveals the struggles of the British Columbia Anti-Tuberculosis Society to establish and operate British Columbia's first sanatorium. Financial problems and a difficult relationship with the community of Kamloops made the task more challenging. Against the background of politics and changing medical theory, under both private and public ownership, the institution treated thousands of patients before its closure in 1958. This is the story of a medical institution and the people who brought it to life--a story containing surprising drama and many lessons for those working and volunteering in the field of health care today."--Back cover.

Book Synopsis Principles of Physical Optics by : Albie Reid
Download or read book Principles of Physical Optics written by Albie Reid and published by . This book was released on 2019-06-14 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical optics is a branch of optics that studies optical phenomena, such as polarization, interference, diffraction, dispersion, scattering, etc. All these phenomena cannot be explained by using the approximations of geometric optics. In physical optics, the wave property of light is considered. Light waves are electromagnetic waves. The interaction of light with materials involves the modeling of both electric and magnetic fields of the light wave. When the propagation of light in systems cannot be solved analytically, numerical modeling techniques are used. These include the boundary element method, finite element method and the transmission-line matrix method. This book is a valuable compilation of topics, ranging from the basic to the most complex theories and principles in the field of physical optics. It aims to shed light on some of the unexplored aspects of this field. It aims to serve as a resource guide for students and experts alike and contribute to the growth of the discipline.
