Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mysteries of the fifth Canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam have long puzzled students of Vedic cosmography and astronomy. Confronted with a description of the universe that seems much at variance with the information provided by our senses and standard astronomical calculations, foreign observers and even Indian commentators from the middle ages up to the present have concluded that the Bhagavatam`s account elaborated in other Puranas must be mythological. On the other hand the same persons have been much impressed with vedic astronomical treatises the jyotisasastras which provide remarkably accurate measurements of the solar system.

Download or read book The Ten Principal Upanishads written by and published by Rupa Publications India. This book was released on 2003-03 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Upanishads are a group of texts in Hindu sacred literature that are considered to reveal the ultimate truth and whose knowledge is considered to lead to spiritual emancipation. In the Upanishads, we find the finest flowering of the Indian metaphysical and speculative thought. They are utterances of seers who spoke out of the fullness of their illumined experience. Upanishad is derived from upa (near), ni (down) and sad (to sit). Hence, the term implies the pupils, intent on learning, sitting near the teacher to acquire knowledge and truth. There are over 200 Upanishads but the traditional number is 108. Of them, only 10 are the principal Upanishads: Isha, Kena, Katha, Prashan, Mundaka, Mandukya, Tattiriya, Aitareya, Chhandogya and Brihadaranyaka. This book is a forerunner in introducing these primary Upanishads to the uninitiated.
Book Synopsis A History of Early Vedānta Philosophy by : Hajime Nakamura
Download or read book A History of Early Vedānta Philosophy written by Hajime Nakamura and published by South Asia Books. This book was released on 1990 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the Vedanta school is well known since the time of Sankaracarya on, and its prehistory before Sankara is quite obscure. However, from the time of compilation of major Upanisads to Sankara there is a period of thousand years, and the tradition of Upanisads was not lost; there appeared many philosophers and dogmaticians, although their thoughts are not clearly known. The author has made clear the details of the pre-Sankara Vedanta philosophy, utilizing not only Sanskrit materials, but also Pali, Prakrit (Jain), as well as Tibetan and Chinese sources. In this respect this is quite a unique work. For this work the author was awarded the Imperial Prize by the Academy of Japan. Some sections of this work were already published in Indian as well as European and American journals in English. This work is a complete English translation of the entire book. The English translation was done with the financial aid by the Harvard-Yenching Institute, and the final touch was given by Mr. Trevor Leggett, the British writer, who is well-versed in Sanskrit as well as in Japanese.

Download or read book Chāndogyopaniṣad written by Rājendralāla Mitra (Raja) and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chandogya brahmana of the sama veda, where of this upanisad forms a part, contains ten chapters (prapathakas) of these the first two are called the chandogya mantra brahmana, the rest constitute the chandogya-upanisads. Many students of Indian philosophy enamoured of the idea of moksa taught by it seek to achieve it by various processe, physical or mental, generally, known as yoga. Those who do so without being fully saturated with the spirit and substance of the upanisads merely take a leap in the dark and court certain death, spiritual as well as pysical. The first requisite is proper familarity with the first principles of Advaita philosophy (Sravana) and entire love with them (Manana) . Hardbound
