Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is the account of a soul in search of the Lord, in search of his call, a call which has always been with him: a writer, a hermit in the midst of the city… a heart at rest in the arms of Jesus and His Blessed Mother. By way of pilgrimage to Medugorje at the end of a Holy Year, through a stay in a desert hermitage (where he must face the darkness and drink it in), to the finding of joy in suffering of new life in death with Christ here the journey is laid bare in mystical detail for the soul of any other on the way. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Jn. 15:13 http://home.earthlink.net/~worksofjameskurt

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The church in the West is rediscovering the fact that God cares deeply for the poor. More and more, churches and individual Christians are looking for ways to practice economic discipleship, but it's hard to make progress when we are blind to our own entanglement in our culture's idolatrous economic beliefs and practices. Practicing the King's Economy cuts through much confusion and invites Christians to take their place within the biblical story of the "King Jesus Economy." Through eye-opening true stories of economic discipleship in action, and with a solid exploration of six key biblical themes, the authors offer practical ways for God's people to earn, invest, spend, compensate, save, share, and give in ways that embody God's love and provision for the world. Foreword by Christopher J. H. Wright.

Not illustrated. Excerpt: ... CHAPTER VI The Ceremonies Of The Jubilee In the still unpublished diary1 of Francesco Mucanzio, papal master of ceremonies at the close of the sixteenth century, we find that distinguished rubrician in December, 1574, discussing at some length the ritual to be used in the unwalling of the Holy Door at the forthcoming celebration of the Jubilee. He tells us that as the time for the ceremony drew near he went to his Holiness Pope Gregory XIII. and submitted to him a memorandum concerning the preparations to be made, and the things to be then observed. It appears, however, that his colleague in the office of master of ceremonies also went to the Pope with a similar programme, which he declared to be that which had been followed by Julius III. in the year 1550. "It differed very little from mine," says Mucanzio, "except in the versicles and responses. Those which I had set down were taken from an ancient roll (a quodam rotulo antiquo) used in the time of Clement VII., and of these versicles there was probably no accurate copy forthcoming in 1550 on account of the pillage and disasters to which the city had been subjected [he refers presumably to the sack of Rome in 1527]; hence they had been somewhat altered. My opinion was that out of the two sets which we had before us, a third more appropriate than either might have been drawn up, but when the matter was proposed in the Congregation of Cardinals appointed for the revision of ceremonies, they decided that as regards the versicles 1The copy here quoted is contained in MS. Addit. 26811 at the British Museum. and prayers the precedent of Julius III.'s time should be adhered to in every particular. The fact is," adds Mucanzio, " we have nothing prescribed about this matter in the Book of Ceremonies,1 and on this ac...

Book excerpt: The first part of this book is an extensive verse-by-verse commentary on the Book of Jubilees. Kugel's stated aim is "to understand what the text is saying and why it is saying it," and in particular to explore the numerous bits of biblical interpretation found in Jubilees and their connection to other exegetical writings of the Second Temple period. Subsequent chapters focus on the possibility that Jubilees had more than one author, as well as on the book’s specific relationship to four other Second Temple texts: the Genesis Apocryphon, the Aramaic Levi Document, 4Q225 Pseudo-Jubilees, and the writings of Philo of Alexandria.

He does not abandon us, he does not leave us alone, for he has united himself definitively to our earth, and his love constantly impels us to find new ways forward. Praise be to him!” – Pope Francis, Laudato Si’ In his second encyclical, Laudato Si’: On the Care of Our Common Home, Pope Francis draws all Christians into a dialogue with every person on the planet about our common home. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NOTE! This updated edition of Jubilee NOW! Is SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT than the first edition! Proclaim liberty throughout the land, to all the inhabitants thereof. It shall be a Jubilee for you... (Leviticus 25:10) What does God have in store for us for this current Jubilee year season? Could it be the de facto authority of Jordan and the Wakf Islamic religious trust now in place on the Temple Mount finally transferring to the Jewish People? Might even the Third Temple be established? Maybe the Biblical borders of Israel promised to Abraham will be inherited by his descendants? Perhaps all these and more, and the final long awaited Messiah will be revealed, ushering in the concluding era of the Final Redemption? In 2015, shortly before Rosh Hashana of the current Hebrew year 5776, Bob O'Dell and Gidon Ariel published Israel FIRST! The Key to Understanding the Blood Moons, Shemitah, Promises to Israel, and the Coming Jubilee. In it, the authors laid out their theory about how all of these components come together to shed light on what God is doing in Israel and the whole world, and how in fact Israel is a light tower for God's plans. These plans call for Christians and all God fearers to turn to Him and especially to focus on their relationship with His People, Israel, the Jewish People. Today, in the year following the Shemitah, it is our responsibility to explore and delve deeply into the concept of the Jubilee, the Yovel, and try to understand what God means for us to know and do. This is especially important as, in contrast to Shemitah and Blood Moons, there are barely any books written for Christians about the Jubilee. God has left this field wide open so to speak, and in Jubilee NOW!, O'Dell and Ariel introduce this critical topic to the world very seriously. This is especially important as, in contrast to Shemitah and Blood Moons, there are barely any books written for Christians about the Jubilee. God has left this field wide open so to speak, and in Jubilee NOW!, O'Dell and Ariel introduce this critical topic to the world very seriously. The name we gave this book, Jubilee NOW!, rings back to its prequel, Israel FIRST!. While at the time of this writing, it is still too early to say with confidence that this year 2016 is the Jubilee year, it is also not responsible to declare that it cannot be. Our title therefore is actually a prayer, beseeching God that He will do His will, and may that will include the blessings of the Jubilee. In Jubilee NOW!, readers join the authors jumping into a journey of discovery, each chapter bringing you one step closer to solving an ancient mystery, rediscovering God's plans and purposes: Jubilee NOW!
