Book Synopsis Physics of Fluids in Microgravity by : Rodolfo Monti
Download or read book Physics of Fluids in Microgravity written by Rodolfo Monti and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-01-10 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a microgravity experiment, the conditions prevalent in fluid phases can be substantially different from those on the ground and can be exploited to improve different processes. Fluid physics research in microgravity is important for the advancement of all microgravity scients: life, material, and engineering. Space flight provides a unique laboratory that allows scientists to improve their understanding of the behaviour of fluids in low gravity, allowing the investigation of phenomena and processes normally masked by the effects of gravity and thus difficult to study on Earth. Physics of Fluids in Microgravity provides a clear view of recent research and progress in the different fields of fluid research in space. The topics presented include bubles and drops dynamics, Maragoni flows, diffustion and thermodiffusion, solidfication,a nd crystal growth. The results obtained so far are, in some cases, to be confirmed by extensive research activities on the International Space station, where basic and applied microgravity experimentation will take place in the years to come.

This book was released on 2018-06-19 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experiment to be carried out aboard the International Space Station is described. A suspension consisting of millimeter-sized bubbles in water containing some dissolved salt, which prevents bubbles from coalescing, will be sheared in a Couette cylindrical cell. Rotation of the outer cylinder will produce centrifugal force which will tend to accumulate the bubbles near the inner wall. The shearing will enhance collisions among bubbles creating thereby bubble phase pressure that will resist the tendency of the bubbles to accumulate near the inner wall. The bubble volume fraction and velocity profiles will be measured and compared with the theoretical predictions. Ground-based research on measurement of bubble phase properties and flow in vertical channel are described. Sangani, A. S. and Kushch, V. I. and Hoffmann, M. and Nahra, H. and Koch, D. This book was released on 2018-08-17 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ZrF4-BaF2-LaF3-AIF3-NaF (ZBLAN) optical fiber was flown on board the NASA's KC-135 microgravity aircraft to determine the effects of microgravity on crystal growth in this material. Fiber samples were placed in evacuated quartz ampoules and heated to the crystallization temperature in 0g, 1g, and 2g. The 1g and 2g samples were observed to slump and crystallize. The 0g samples showed no evidence of crystallization. Tucker, Dennis S. Marshall Space Flight Center NASA-TM-108461, NAS 1.15:108461 ...

Book Synopsis Multiphase Particulate Systems in Turbulent Flows by : Wioletta Podgórska
Download or read book Multiphase Particulate Systems in Turbulent Flows written by Wioletta Podgórska and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiphase Particulate Systems in Turbulent Flows: Fluid-Liquid and Solid-Liquid Dispersions provides methods necessary to analyze complex particulate systems and related phenomena including physical, chemical and mathematical description of fundamental processes influencing crystal size and shape, suspension rheology, interfacial area of drops and bubbles in extractors and bubble columns. Examples of mathematical model formulation for different processes taking place in such systems is shown. Discussing connections between turbulent mixing mechanisms and precipitation, it discusses influence of fine-scale structure of turbulence, including its intermittent character, on breakage of drops, bubbles, cells, plant cell aggregates. An important aspect of the mathematical modeling presented in the book is multi-fractal, taking into account the influence of internal intermittency on different phenomena. Key Features Provides detailed descriptions of dispersion processes in turbulent flow, interactions between dispersed entities, and continuous phase in a single volume Includes simulation models and validation experiments for liquid-liquid, gas-liquid, and solid-liquid dispersions in turbulent flows Helps reader learn formulation of mathematical models of breakage or aggregation processes using multifractal theory Explains how to solve different forms of population balance equations Presents a combination of theoretical and engineering approaches to particulate systems along with discussion of related diversity, with exercises and case studies
