Download or read book Handbook of Thermal Plasmas written by Maher I. Boulos and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-20 with total page 1973 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This authoritative reference presents a comprehensive review of the evolution of plasma science and technology fundamentals over the past five decades. One of this field’s principal challenges has been its multidisciplinary nature requiring coverage of fundamental plasma physics in plasma generation, transport phenomena under high-temperature conditions, involving momentum, heat and mass transfer, and high-temperature reaction kinetics, as well as fundamentals of material science under extreme conditions. The book is structured in five distinct parts, which are presented in a reader-friendly format allowing for detailed coverage of the science base and engineering aspects of the technology including plasma generation, mathematical modeling, diagnostics, and industrial applications of thermal plasma technology. This book is an essential resource for practicing engineers, research scientists, and graduate students working in the field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demands of industry for creating new functional materials with predetermined properties have stimulated an increasing interest in the investigation of processes occurring in plasma jets of complex chemical composition (homogeneous and heterogeneous) as well as their interaction with hard surfaces. This Proceedings volume contains contributions from leading international specialists on plasma science and technology which were presented at the 2nd International Workshop ''Plasma Jets in the Development in of New Materials Technology'', 3--9 September 1990, Frunze (USSR). The scope of the workshop incorporated the following aspects: modelling of the processes of momentum heat and mass transfer in homogeneous and heterogeneous plasma jets as well as interaction between the particles and the base; diagnostics of the parameters of gas and disperse phases in plasma flows; plasma-spraying processes investigations; processes of treatment and production of materials, including powder materials.
Book Synopsis Measurement of Air Entrainment in Plasma Jets by :
Download or read book Measurement of Air Entrainment in Plasma Jets written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concentration and temperature of air entrained into argon and helium plasma jets has been measured using coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS). The argon plasma flow field is characterized by a short region of well behaved laminar flow near the nozzle exit followed by an abrupt transition to turbulence. Once the transition of turbulence occurs, air is rapidly mixed into the jet core. The location of the transition region is determined by the rapid cooling of the jet and the resulting increase in Reynolds number. In contrast, the helium plasma flow field never exceeds a Reynolds number of 200 and remains laminar. The entrainment process in this case is controlled by molecular diffusion rather than turbulent mixing. 9 refs., 5 figs., 1 tab.

Book Synopsis Analysis of the Injection of a Heated Turbulent Jet Into a Cross Flow by : James Franklin Campbell
Download or read book Analysis of the Injection of a Heated Turbulent Jet Into a Cross Flow written by James Franklin Campbell and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been undertaken to develop a theoretical model of the incompressible jet injection process. The discharge of a turbulent jet into a cross flow was mathematically modeled by using an integral method which accounts for natural fluid mechanisms such as turbulence, entrainment, buoyancy, and heat transfer. The analytical results are supported by experimental data and demonstrate the usefulness of the theory for estimating the trajectory and flow properties of the jet for a variety of injection conditions. The capability of predicting jet flow properties, as well as two- and three- dimensional jet paths, was enhanced by obtaining the jet cross-sectional area during the solution of the conservation equations (a number of previous studies assume a specific growth for the area). Realistic estimates of temperature in the jet fluid were acquired by accounting for heat losses in the jet flow due to forced convection and to entrainment of free-stream fluid into the jet.
