Book Synopsis Geological Processes on Continental Margins by : M. S. Stoker
Download or read book Geological Processes on Continental Margins written by M. S. Stoker and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 1998 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continental margins form the relatively narrow transition zones between the different domains of land masses and deep-ocean basins. They are the main regions of sediment input and transfer of sediments to the oceans and thus represent important zones of sediment flux. This work addresses three topics of significance to continental margin development: sedimentation, mass-wasting and stability. It should be of interest to marine geologists, sedimentologists, palaeoceanographers and physical properties specialists.

Book Synopsis The Geology of England and Wales by : P. J. Brenchley
Download or read book The Geology of England and Wales written by P. J. Brenchley and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2006 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of 'The Geology of England and Wales' is considerably expanded from its predecessor, reflecting the increase in our knowledge of the region, and particularly of the offshore areas. Forty specialists have contributed to 18 chapters, which cover a time range from 700 million years ago to 200 million years into the future. A new format places all the chapters in approximately temporal order. Both offshore and economic geology now form an integral part of appropriate chapters.

Book Synopsis Sedimentary Basins by : Gerhard Einsele
Download or read book Sedimentary Basins written by Gerhard Einsele and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 795 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This completely revised and enlarged second edition provides an up-to-date overview of all major topics in sedimentary geology. It is unique in its quantitative approach to denudation-accumulation systems and basin fillings, including dynamic aspects. The relationship between tectonism and basin evolution as well as the concepts of sequence cycle and event stratigraphy in various depositional environments are extensively discussed. Numerous, often composite figures, a well-structured text, brief summaries in boxes, and several examples from all continents make the book an invaluable source of information for students, researchers and professors in academia as well as for professionals in the oil industry.
Book Synopsis Sand and Sandstone by : F. J. Pettijohn
Download or read book Sand and Sandstone written by F. J. Pettijohn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition appeared fourteen years ago. Since then there have been significant advances in our science that warrant an updating and revision of Sand and Sandstone. The main framework of the first edition has been retained so that the reader can begin with the mineralogy and textural properties of sands and sandstones, progress through their organization and classification and their study as a body of rock, to consideration of their origin-prove nance, transportation, deposition, and lithification-and finally to their place in the stratigraphic column and the basin. The last decade has seen the rise of facies analysis based on a closer look at the stratigraphic record and the recognition of characteristic bed ding sequences that are the signatures of some geologic process-such as a prograding shallow-water delta or the migration of a point bar on an alluvial floodplain. The environment of sand deposition is more closely determined by its place in such depositional systems than by criteria based on textural characteristics-the "fingerprint" approach. Our revi sion reflects this change in thinking. As in the geological sciences as a whole, the concept of plate tectonics has required a rethinking of our older ideas about the origin and accumu lation of sediments-especially the nature of the sedimentary basins.

Book Synopsis Sedimentary Processes and Pelagic Turbidites in the Eastern Central Pacific Basin by : Patrick H. Lineberger
Download or read book Sedimentary Processes and Pelagic Turbidites in the Eastern Central Pacific Basin written by Patrick H. Lineberger and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of sediment cores from an area of the eastern Central Pacific basin revealed varied characteristics of the cores and associated acoustical properties of the sediments that enabled the study area to be divided into five provinces. Two of the provinces, one consisting of acoustically highly transparent siliceous ooze and the other of highly stratified calcareous ooze, are separated by a third, a siliceous-calcareous transition zone. A fourth province consists of partially eroded, highly stratified sediments of Tertiary age which are unconformably overlain by a thin, transparent siliceous ooze of Quaternary age. The fifth province consists of channels arranged in a distributary-like pattern that contain highly stratified sediments incised into surrounding transparent siliceous sediments. Surface sediment distribution was generally consistent with the calcite compensation depth of about 5000 meters.

Book Synopsis An Introduction to the Analysis of Ancient Turbidite Basins from an Outcrop Perspective by : Emiliano Mutti
Download or read book An Introduction to the Analysis of Ancient Turbidite Basins from an Outcrop Perspective written by Emiliano Mutti and published by AAPG. This book was released on 1999 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbidite sedimentation of ancient orogenic belts is considered closely related to that of marginal flood-dominated fluvio-deltaic systems. These notes provide criteria that can be used for the description and interpretation of ancient turbidite systems exposed in thrust and fold belts.
Download or read book Deep-Sea Sediments written by H. Huneke and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-02-08 with total page 865 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Deep-Sea Sediments' focuses on the sedimentary processes operating within the various modern and ancient deep-sea environments. The chapters track the way of sedimentary particles from continental erosion or production in the marine realm, to transport into the deep sea, to final deposition on the sea floor.
