Or maybe it was from the moment I gave her that wicked smile and called her Pet. Maybe a mistake, but I knew she’d be mine. Four years later and she’s still giving me the cold shoulder. That doesn’t stop me. Not really. My pursuit’s just gotten a little more subtle. But time’s running out. Soon we’ll be off to our futures and I don’t want to head in different directions. Imagine my surprise when my dad elopes and comes home with my new mom and stepsister. My Pet’s in the bedroom next to mine and it just got a lot harder for her to avoid me. And a lot icier as that cold shoulder gets even colder. If that’s how she wants to be... CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
Book Synopsis I Foresee My Life by : Suzanne Oakdale
Download or read book I Foresee My Life written by Suzanne Oakdale and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "As they narrate their lives in these rituals, leaders also give other participants ways to address some of the pressing issues in their own lives. Special emphasis is given to the emotional effects of narrative performances and how these accounts move people to identify with others, compel them to act in appropriate ways, or assuage their grief over a lost loved one. Oakdale analyzes autobiographical performances using insights from studies on ritual, life history, and linguistic anthropology to better understand Kayabi notions of self and person and the role these narrative expressions play in their social life."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Synopsis Psychoanalysis and the family in twentieth-century France by : Richard Bates
Download or read book Psychoanalysis and the family in twentieth-century France written by Richard Bates and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2022-02-08 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last quarter of the twentieth century, if French people had a parenting problem or dilemma there was one person they consulted above all: Françoise Dolto (1908–88). But who was Dolto? How did she achieve a position of such influence? What ideas did she communicate to the French public? This book connects the story of Dolto’s rise to two broader histories: the dramatic growth of psychoanalysis in postwar France and the long-running debate over the family and the proper role of women in society. It shows that Dolto’s continued reputation in France as a liberal and enlightened educational thinker is at best only partially deserved and that conservative and anti-feminist ideas often underpinned her prominent public interventions. While Dolto retains the status of a national treasure, her career has had far-reaching and sometimes harmful repercussions for French society, particularly in the treatment of autism.

Book Synopsis Healing Children's Grief by : Grace Hyslop Christ
Download or read book Healing Children's Grief written by Grace Hyslop Christ and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2000-01-27 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this unique book, Grace Christ relates the powerfully moving stories of eighty-eight families and their 157 children (ages 3 to 17) who participated in a parent-guidance intervention through the terminal illness and death of one of the parents from cancer. Using extensive case examples throughout, Healing Children's Grief: Surviving a Parent's Death from Cancer provides a detailed examination of how children and adolescents cope with this loss. Covering a critical 20 month period, from 6 months before to 14 months after the death of a parent, Christ reports that a majority of the children successfully adapted to the loss during the subsequent months after the death. The book is divided into two major sections. The first summarizes the theoretical background and methodology. The second presents the findings of the five developmentally derived age groups (3-5, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, and 15-17). Using qualitative analytic methods, these findings clarify important differences in children's grief and mourning processes, in their understanding of events, in their interactions with families, and in their varying needs for help and support. The author describes how parents participated in healing their children's grief by: preparing, informing, and guiding children through the experience; understanding their developmental needs; supporting and resonating with their unique expressions of grief; helping them construct a positive legacy; and reconstituting relationships without the day to day presence of the parent who died. Healing Children's Grief: Surviving a Parent's Death from Cancer provides practical guidance and direction for professionals and physicians, nurses, social workers, therapists, guidance counselors, and teachers.
