Book excerpt: Vicky Beeching, called “arguably the most influential Christian of her generation” in The Guardian, began writing songs for the church in her teens. By the time she reached her early thirties, Vicky was a household name in churches on both sides of the pond. Recording multiple albums and singing in America’s largest megachurches, her music was used weekly around the globe and translated into numerous languages. But this poster girl for evangelical Christianity lived with a debilitating inner battle: she was gay. The tens of thousands of traditional Christians she sang in front of were unanimous in their view – they staunchly opposed same-sex relationships and saw homosexuality as a grievous sin. Vicky knew if she ever spoke up about her identity it would cost her everything. Faced with a major health crisis, at the age of thirty-five she decided to tell the world that she was gay. As a result, all hell broke loose. She lost her music career and livelihood, faced threats and vitriol from traditionalists, developed further health issues from the immense stress, and had to rebuild her life almost from scratch. But despite losing so much she gained far more: she was finally able to live from a place of wholeness, vulnerability, and authenticity. She finally found peace. What’s more, Vicky became a champion for others, fighting for LGBT equality in the church and in the corporate sector. Her courageous work is creating change in the US and the UK, as she urges people to celebrate diversity, live authentically, and become undivided.
Book Synopsis The Gift of Truth by : Stephen David Ross
Download or read book The Gift of Truth written by Stephen David Ross and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1997-04-24 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume traces the history of the idea of truth as an ethical movement, exploring those developments in Western thought, from Plato and Aristotle through Kant and Hegel, when ethics was separated from science and philosophy. At the heart of the project is a reexamination of the good, found in Plato as that which makes being possible, which gives authority to knowledge and beckons to art, preserved in Levinas as infinite responsibility. The idea of the good is interpreted as nature's abundance, giving beauty and truth as gifts. It gives rise to an ethics of inclusion.

Book Synopsis Context, Plurality, and Truth by : Mika Vähäkangas
Download or read book Context, Plurality, and Truth written by Mika Vähäkangas and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-02-10 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world has shrunk in the processes of globalization, and the old ways of actively ignoring plurality in theology are no longer viable. Contextual differences between different Christian traditions and theologies are highly visible due to improved communications and migration. These differences also witness that this plurality has existed since the very beginning of Christianity. Religious studies demonstrate that no religion is pure and hermetically sealed from others, but they all are syncretistic in the sense of giving and taking. In the world of religions, where boundaries are porous and the internal plurality of Christianity is vast, there is a temptation either to reject the plurality in a fideistic manner or succumb to relativism. The first solution is intellectually hard to defend, and relativism is often seen as detrimental to Christian identity. This book proposes a way of recognizing the contextual and syncretistic dimensions of pluralism while not surrendering to relativism. Christian identity and tradition can be affirmed while staying open to the challenges of pluralism.

Download or read book Heal Yourself written by P.K. Nesbit and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-02-15 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We think that on one hand there is our mind and on the other hand there is what seems separate from the mind: physical body and the world. Taking for granted that our perception is an objective tool for examining the “outside” reality, we end up in conflict with everything around us and with ourselves. Our sickness and unhappiness is the proof that our mind is at war, yet we are doing this onto ourselves. When we realize that we are always in control, we can disregard our false interpretation the senses are reporting us. We will then realize what is of valuable and let go of valueless. We need to question our habitual responses based on fears from the past and start fresh and learn to make new decisions based on the desire for inner peace and equality with everyone. Everyone is aware of the same “I” as I am. “I” is not divided. All Power in it is the same and maximal; it is one. There is no other Power than this. It has no parts. It is perfectly united and at our disposal. It is our “daily bread.” Yet because we rather focus our attention on the “outside” body and the world, we perceive ourselves split instead of united with all Creation. When we change our focus and look at each fragment of conflict, we chose to perceive and decide to let the division go and become aware of Oneness of “I” instead. This is the decision for healing. In the book I have described fragmentation of our thinking in many practical situations and how I dealt with them. This process of “undoing” will heal the mind that will also reflect upon the body. At first it was easier for me to practice undoing with children rather than adults. I ran my own gymnastic school for twenty-three years, and by deciding to let it be a place of fun, it became our mutual learning ground. The school was completely transformed and provided many programs for joyous socializing. In an open-structure and noncompetitive environment, the children learn the best. The “teacher” can choose to be neutral (peaceful) and let children learn how to make their own decisions. In the forgiveness process of letting go, everyone needs be included, because everyone is innocent. The book does concentrate on clarifying the two thought systems that govern our thinking. The choice is always ours. In order to focus on the fundamental distinction between them, I repeat the concepts, illustrate them in practical situations, and summarize the approach of “changing of mind.” By completing the manuscript, I have realized that all information I need is now at my disposal, and I will receive more as I apply it more. It is only the application that opens the door to understanding of what is the next step to take. The purpose of all situations is our healing. The sooner we respond to them in the peaceful way, the faster our mind heals. Yet we can take as long as we want to take. The basic premise is that Power of God is within, and how I feel is the direct result of what I think. If I have problems, I do not need to change the world in order to have Peace, but to change what I think. This is done through relationships. People that are assigned to learn with us are constantly appearing in our lives. I can assure you that you would not choose them yourself. However, you called them, and they responded. You are ready for them. They present rather than an illusion of love. They will bring more harmony and joy to your life than you could ever imagine. Forgive them and you will see them truly. Opening the door to everyone is the key to restoration of your true Self. Welcome on board.

It is an invitation to enter into a deeper, more intimate relationship with your Heavenly Father—the One who made you, and wants you, and loves you like no other. It is an invitation to enter into the peace, and joy, and protection, and provision, and purpose of an abundant life that can only be found by having a right relationship with the Father through Christ—a covenant relationship of surrender, trust and obedience. It is a call to live in Truth, and to allow that Truth to set you free to be everything that God has called you to be. God’s Word has an answer to every situation and circumstance of your life, and this devotional explores many of those answers, as it moves you from fear to faith, from doubt to belief, from despair to hope, from darkness to light, from the lies of the enemy to the truth of God’s unrelenting, unending, unfailing, and passionate love for you! Each day’s devotion focuses on a particular passage from the Bible, and uses the truth found in the passage to offer a prayer for God’s help in correctly understanding and rightly applying that truth to your life. As you move through the year, each new day will bring new insights into who God is and all that He has done for you. It will also reveal who you are in Christ—so you can courageously and confidently do all things that that He asks of you, knowing your strength is found in Him alone. This devotional will change your life—because you cannot come to knowledge of the Truth of the Word of God and not be changed. The way that you allow it to change your life will depend largely on the choices that you make when confronted with the Truth. Use this devotional to help you choose wisely God’s very best path for you—and know that He always has your best interests at heart.

Download or read book Restoring Eden written by Sarah Winbow and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Restoring Eden contains the true story of a group of people in rural England who simply had a heart to seek God, listen to what He said, put His word into practice and then saw what He did. Restoring Eden also contains the reproducible strategy for prayer God gave them. The strategy is simple and it begins with this: if a united group of believers identify the various footholds the enemy has gained in their community, 'stand in the gap' in heartfelt repentance and then seek God's face in worship with humility of heart, we have His promise from scripture that He will hear our prayers and heal (restore) our land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
