Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A first of its kind, accessible, in-depth resource for leading effective white racial affinity groups—an essential tool in anti-racism for building the skills and perspectives needed for white people to challenge racism. While there are a few short articles and guides addressing the challenges and complexities of leading white affinity groups, there has never been a detailed handbook exclusively for white racial affinity group facilitators. There are many challenges in facilitating these groups including the need to have a deep theoretical understanding of racism; a high degree of racial self-awareness; sensitivity to and the ability to work with the range of skills and degrees of awareness participants bring; and strong facilitation and conflict resolution skills. The Facilitator’s Guide for White Affinity Groups is the first in-depth guide for educators, mediators, workplace consultants and trainers, workplace diversity groups, community organizers, conference organizers, members of faith communities, and members of racial and social justice groups. Dr. Robin DiAngelo and Amy Burtaine, who collectively bring over 20 years of experience leading anti-racist education and racial affinity groups present: · a theoretical framework for understanding racism; · a case for the value of racial affinity groups as a tool for challenging racism; · guidelines for setting up affinity groups in a variety of contexts; · the skills and perspectives needed for effective facilitation; · scenarios to illustrate common challenges; · a glossary of definitions; · exercises, discussion prompts, and assessment tools. · an extensive list of common patterns and group dynamics and how to address them Written accessibly for a wide range of readers and backgrounds, The Facilitator’s Guide for White Affinity Groups will be an important reference for anyone committed to anti-racism work.
Download or read book Organic Leadership written by Neil Cole and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2010-02-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it possible that the division between the clergy and the laity is unnecessary and, in fact, harmful to the church? In Organic Leadership, Neil Cole fervently says yes and shows how this causes great harm to all. But rather than doing away with the clergy, Cole argues that the answer is to raise up organically grown leaders from ordinary Christians and make everyone "a priest." Using examples from modern cinema, personal experience, and the Bible, Cole sets out to change our view of what a leader is and how one is formed. This fresh and revolutionary alternative will transform readers and equip them to challenge themselves and others to find the vision God has for them. Now available in trade paper.
Book Synopsis Breaking Free: A facilitator's guide to participatory action research practice by : Timothy Pyrch
Download or read book Breaking Free: A facilitator's guide to participatory action research practice written by Timothy Pyrch and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Breaking Free is a practical guide to facilitating self-directing educational processes into participatory action research (PAR) enabling average people to contribute what they can as active participants in research projects. As such, it is designed primarily for these participants rather than the academic researcher in order to introduce participants to authentic contributions they can make as activists in knowledge-making processes. At the same time, Breaking Free guides academic researchers towards helpful practices enriching their often times lonely and isolated existence created by a false sense of "objectivity." A hands-on practical yet disciplined approach to facilitating PAR prepares readers to craft their own individual Guide as they prepare for the PAR life. This opens up the world of knowledge-making to people long silenced by forces intent on controlling knowledge for the educated elite. Breaking Free invites people to contribute as they can and be recognized for this contribution.

Book Synopsis A Safe Place for Dangerous Truths by : Annette Simmons
Download or read book A Safe Place for Dangerous Truths written by Annette Simmons and published by AMACOM. This book was released on 2006-04-23 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No more "checking for feet." This illuminating guide gets people to tell the truth at the meeting--not in the bathroom afterwards. Almost everybody lies. In one recent survey, 93% of people admitted to lying regularly at work! Why? Because it's safer than telling the truth. Sadly, organizations cannot succeed in this poisonous world of half-truths, strategic omissions, and doctored information. A Safe Place for Dangerous Truths shows how the formal process of "dialogue" can create a safe place to tell the truth. In a lively discussion, author Annette Simmons shows managers how to use this technique to: encourage truth-telling by reducing fear prompting self-examination, and opening minds build trust where suspicion and cynicism held sway inspire individuals to think and learn as a group help groups talk through tough issues and move to collaborative action To function optimally, businesses must create an environment where people feel free to tell the truth, no matter how disturbing. Only then can organizations unleash the responsiveness, creativity, and enthusiasm necessary to achieve their goals.
Book Synopsis Truth and Conviction by : L. Jane McMillan
Download or read book Truth and Conviction written by L. Jane McMillan and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The name “Donald Marshall Jr.” is synonymous with “wrongful conviction” and the fight for Indigenous rights in Canada. In Truth and Conviction, Jane McMillan – Marshall’s former partner, an acclaimed anthropologist, and an original defendant in the Supreme Court’s Marshall decision on Indigenous fishing rights – tells the story of how Marshall’s fight against injustice permeated Canadian legal consciousness and revitalized Indigenous law. Marshall was destined to assume the role of hereditary chief of the Mi’kmaw Nation when, in 1971, he was wrongly convicted of murder. He spent more than eleven years in jail before a royal commission exonerated him and exposed the entrenched racism underlying the terrible miscarriage of justice. Four years later, in 1993, he was charged with fishing eels without a licence. With the backing of Mi’kmaw chiefs, he took the case all the way to the Supreme Court to vindicate Indigenous treaty rights in the landmark Marshall decision. Marshall was only fifty-five when he died in 2009. His legacy lives on as Mi’kmaq continue to assert their rights and build justice programs grounded in customary laws and practices, key steps in the path to self-determination and reconciliation.

Book excerpt: The exploration of the psyche in non-ordinary states of consciousness provides access to powerful transformative experiences that can lead us towards a more complete experience of being human (the realization of a deeper identity) while also yielding extraordinary insights into the ultimate nature of reality. In this book, Renn Butler explains how to use archetypal astrology as a guide to the transpersonal journey. Described by Stanislav Grof as "the Rosetta Stone of consciousness research," archetypal astrology is based on a correspondence between planetary alignments and archetypal patterns in human experience. Here, by drawing on the work of Grof and Richard Tarnas, Butler systematically describes the archetypal themes and qualities associated with each of the major planetary combinations studied in astrology and considers how these themes might manifest and be supported in deep psychological self-exploration. Based on thirty years of research, Pathways to Wholeness is an indispensable reference book for explorers of the inner worlds. Pathways to Wholeness:- Explores the intersection between Grofian transpersonal psychology and archetypal astrology - Describes the nature of the planetary archetypes in astrology - Explores the archetypal meaning of all the main planetary combinations as applied to everyday life, perinatal psychology, and transpersonal experience - Provides illuminating case studies and vignettes - Illustrated with mandala drawings.

Book excerpt: Help your students to think critically and creatively through team-based problem solving instead of focusing on testing and outcomes. This book was released on 2013-10-07 with total page 757 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE WILEY-BLACKWELL HANDBOOK OF Transpersonal Psychology “The new Handbook of Transpersonal Psychology is a necessity today. Many transpersonal psychologists and psychotherapists have been waiting for such a comprehensive work. Congratulations to Harris Friedman and Glenn Hartelius. May this book contribute to an increasingly adventurous, creative, and vibrant universe.” Ingo B. Jahrsetz, President, The European Transpersonal Association “The Handbook of Transpersonal Psychology is an outstanding, comprehensive overview of the field. It is a valuable resource for professional transpersonal practitioners, and an excellent introduction for those who are new to this wide-ranging discipline.” Frances Vaughan, PhD. Psychologist, author of Shadows of the Sacred: Seeing Through Spiritual Illusions “Finally, the vast literature on transpersonal psychology has been collected in what is clearly the essential handbook for psychologists and others who have either too apologetically endorsed or too critically rejected what undoubtedly will define psychology in the future. If you are not a transpersonal psychologist now, you will be after exploring this handbook. No longer can one dismiss the range of topics confronted by transpersonal psychologists nor demand methodological restraints that refuse to confront the realities transpersonal psychologists explore. This is a marvelous handbook—critical, expansive, and like much of what transpersonal psychologists study, sublime.” Ralph W. Hood Jr., University of Tennessee, Chattanooga With contributions from more than fifty scholars, this is the most inclusive resource yet published on transpersonal psychology, which advocates a rounded approach to human well-being, integrating ancient beliefs and modern knowledge. Proponents view the field as encompassing Jungian principles, psychotherapeutic techniques such as Holotropic Breathwork, and the meditative practices found in Hinduism and Buddhism. Alongside the core commentary on transpersonal theories—including holotropic states; science, with chapters on neurobiology and psychometrics; and relevance to feminism or concepts of social justice—the volume includes sections describing transpersonal experiences, accounts of differing approaches to healing, wellness, and personal development, and material addressing the emerging field of transpersonal studies. Chapters on shamanism and psychedelic therapies evoke the multifarious interests of the transpersonal psychology community. The result is a richly flavored distillation of the underlying principles and active ingredients in the field.
