Book excerpt: Individuals with mental health problems very often have other kinds of problems as well. Financial, housing, employment and physical difficulties, to name a few, complicate and intensify the need for direct and effective assistance along many fronts. Individuals with problems are not necessarily problem individuals, but a lack of adequate and timely assistance can make them so. The subjects of this study were in contact with a variety of social agencies including community mental health centers, hospitals, family services, legal aid, public welfare, schools, juvenile courts, and many others. But too seldom was the service adequately planned or coordinated. At times, a person's problems were even compounded by the sincere, but disjointed efforts to help. In undertaking this study, the NIMH hoped to contribute to a better understanding of the problems faced by those who are disadvantaged and needy in many aspects of their existence. It was also designed to provide a realistic assessment of the strengths and limitations of our existing system of services. Findings such as those reported here can strengthen the foundation on which to plan and carry through more effective mental health services. To be effective, they must work in partnership with other human service agencies to meet the various and complex needs of families so sorely in need of social concern and care.

When they saw each other again, she was standing next to his nephew, smiling as she called out: "Greetings, Uncle Lu." Who would have thought that the man would bring her home without a word and ask for a certificate. "We're not close? How could he be considered familiar with it? Two babies, sir, to improve our relationship, eh? " Mu Chen: "Mister Lu, what happened to the High Chilling Restraint Element?"

Book Synopsis Theologies and Moral Concern by : Paul Gottfried
Download or read book Theologies and Moral Concern written by Paul Gottfried and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-24 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the twenty-ninth volume in This World, a series on religion and public affairs. It focuses on theological and moral questions of deep significance for our time. The lines of division separating secular and religious outlooks, modernity and postmodernism, and romantic and classical styles of thought are some of the topics treated in this volume. Additional features are an exchange of opinions and a position paper intended to generate further discussion. This ongoing series of volumes seeks to provide a wide-ranging forum for differing views on religious and ethical considerations. Theologies and Moral Concern include the following major contributions: "Distinctions of Power: How Church and State Divide America" by Brian Mitchell; "Beyond the Impasses: Making Moral Sense of Abortion" by Anthony Matteo; "Are Religions Ever Traditional" by Jacob Neusner; "Philosophical Issues in Darwinian Theory" by Kenneth T. Gallagher; "Monotheism and Skepticism" by Aryeh Botwinick; "Defining Romantic Theology" by Gerhard Spiegler; and "The YMCA and Suburban America" by Clifford Putney. In addition, the volume features a dialogue between Michael A. Weinstein and Paul Gottfried on what constitutes the proper role for liberal arts education in contemporary American society as well as a position paper titled "The Pitfalls of Political Correctness" by Lawrence Nannery. Theologies and Moral Concern is part of an annual survey of religion and public life which aims to provide relevant information and ideas about significant issues of the day. It is directly pertinent to understanding the connection between religion and the state. This particular volume, coming at a time of intense public scrutiny of fundamentalism, evangelicism, and new religious movements generally, should have special appeal for political scientists, American studies specialists, sociologists, and those involved in the creation of public policy.
