Book Synopsis Trouble de la régulation tonique et premiers liens by : Marion Kauffmann
Download or read book Trouble de la régulation tonique et premiers liens written by Marion Kauffmann and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Before Speech written by Margaret Bullowa and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1979-09-27 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long before they can make any sounds approaching language, infants can share in communication, though what this means is the subject of much scrutiny. This 1979 volume deliberately draws on people whose different backgrounds have brought them to explore questions that have a bearing on communication in this earliest phase of human infancy. This is, then, as Dr Bullowa says in her introduction, primarily a book about 'how scientists go about finding out how infants and adults communicate with one another'. It is nowhere dogmatic; contributors have all been encouraged to say why they came to do the research reported, how they set about it and what they discovered. Dr Bullowa herself provides a useful introduction which makes its own substantial contribution, while surveying the broad context of the particular research, discussing some of the themes that recur in the book and relating them to the wider literature.

Download or read book Beauvoir in Time written by Meryl Altman and published by Value Inquiry Book. This book was released on 2020 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Beauvoir in Time situates Simone de Beauvoir's The Second Sex in the historical context of its writing and in later contexts of its international reception, from then till now. The book takes up three aspects of Beauvoir's work more recent feminists find embarrassing: "bad sex," "dated" views about lesbians, and intersections with race and class. Through close reading of her writing in many genres, alongside contemporaneous discourses (good and bad novels in French and English, outmoded psychoanalytic and sexological authorities, ethnographic surrealism, the writing of Richard Wright and Franz Fanon), and in light of her travels to the U.S. and China, the author uncovers insights more recent feminist methodologies obscure, showing Beauvoir is still good to think with today"--

Book Synopsis Antipsychotic Drugs and Their Side-Effects by : Thomas R.E. Barnes
Download or read book Antipsychotic Drugs and Their Side-Effects written by Thomas R.E. Barnes and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In line with other volumes in the Neuroscience Perspectives Series, this volume covers the background, pharmacology, molecular biology, and biochemistry of antipsychotic drugs, together with an overview assessment of the therapeutic considerations. Over the past 40 years, the effectiveness of conventional neuroleptic agents for psychotic illness has been offset by a wide range of adverse side-effects, including motor side-effects like parkinsonism. Studies show that lowering doses may still produce the antipsychotic effect while lessening the risk of side-effects. As all available antispychotic drugs are able to block dopamine, specifically D2 receptors, doses below the threshold level for producing acute motor disorder can still be therapeutically effective. With the identification and characterization of multiple dopamine receptors, the possibility of more selective drugs with better side-effect potential has arisen. Other novel antipsychotic agents include D1 receptor blockers, partial dopamine agonists and non-dopamine drugs such as 5-HT receptor blockers, sigma receptor antagonists and NMDA receptor agonists. This volume reviews both the basic science of the conventional and atypical neuroleptics and their present and potential therapeutic use.
