Also, it will be useful to the established designers of wastewater treatment plants, decision makers of municipal corporations, field executives and pollution control board authorities. Wastewater treatment is a vast and interdisciplinary subject. Wastewater treatment plants are very complex hydro-technical facilities. The concept of planning and design of waste water treatment plants through concise book should be easily understandable to students, beginners in process and hydraulic design of wastewater treatment plants. Once the concepts are understood and reasonably enough confidence of process and hydraulic design of wastewater treatment process is gained then one can acquire specific details of design from different sources and can handle even planning and design of large capacity wastewater/sewage plants to different site conditions and layouts. The author felt to attempt and write a book-cum-design guide covering theory of the subject which is normally required to write examinations. Much stress is given on process and hydraulic design, treatment plant hydraulics, fundamentals of hydraulics and its application in wastewater treatment plant design, and hydraulic profiling of plants. The basic hydraulic concepts are same whether they are used for design of elements of sewage treatment plant or industrial waste water treatment. A pilot project on design of 125 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant has been exercised in order to integrate the process design, hydraulic concepts, control points in plant and hydraulics of various units/components that must operate compatibly to provide the desired flow profile. The recommendations of various Indian standards and manual on Sewerage and Sewage Treatment of CPHEO under Ministry of Urban Development, New Delhi have been followed. The SI units of measurement are used throughout the book and in design calculations. The book contain about 100 diagrams, tables, photos and three large diagrams of sewage treatment plant’s layout, hydraulic profiling of main flow path and return flow. Book features: · Provides enough subject theory and design of wastewater treatment plants in detail. · Theory and design considerations of Activated Sludge Process(ASP) and its modifications, advanced wastewater biological treatment processes like- Sequencing Batch Reactor(SBR), Moving Bed Bio-film Reactor(MBBR), Rotating Biological Contactor(RBC), Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) process has been covered in detail. · It includes plant siting and layout development, support facilities, basics of hydraulics, plant hydraulics and pump hydraulics in depth which is required for hydraulic design and profiling of wastewater treatment plants. · A complete process and hydraulic design, and hydraulic profiling of 125 MLD sewage treatment plant. · Process design of Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) process. · Appendices: Tables and Nomograms, standard sizes of pipes of various materials, gates, pumps, aerators, air blowers, and table of constants required for hydraulic calculations. It provides the basic hands-on training for junior-year civil and environmental engineering students. In each experiment, fundamental theories in the topic area are revisited and mathematic equations are presented to guide practical applications of these theories. Tables, figures, graphs, and schematic illustrations are incorporated into the context to give a better understanding of concept development, experimental design, and data collection and recording. Each experiment ends with discussion topics and questions to help students better understand the content of the experiment. This manual mainly serves as a textbook for an environmental and hydraulics engineering laboratory course. Professionals and water/wastewater treatment plant managers may also find this manual of value for their daily jobs. In addition, students in related areas can use this manual as a reference and the general public may use it to educate themselves on water quality testing and water flow.

Book Synopsis Hydraulics in Civil and Environmental Engineering by : Andrew Chadwick
Download or read book Hydraulics in Civil and Environmental Engineering written by Andrew Chadwick and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-06-07 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic text, now in its sixth edition, combines a thorough coverage of the basic principles of civil engineering hydraulics with a wide-ranging treatment of practical, real-world applications. It now includes a powerful online resource with worked solutions for chapter problems and solution spreadsheets for more complex problems that may be used as templates for similar issues. Hydraulics in Civil and Environmental Engineering is structured into two parts to deal with principles and more advanced topics. The first part focuses on fundamentals, such as hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, pipe and open channel flow, wave theory, physical modelling, hydrology and sediment transport. The second part illustrates engineering applications of these principles to pipeline system design, hydraulic structures, river and coastal engineering, including up-to-date environmental implications, as well as a chapter on computational modelling, illustrating the application of computational simulation techniques to modern design, in a variety of contexts. New material and additional problems for solution have been added to the chapters on hydrostatics, pipe flow and dimensional analysis. The hydrology chapter has been revised to reflect updated UK flood estimation methods, data and software. The recommendations regarding the assessment of uncertainty, climate change predictions, impacts and adaptation measures have been updated, as has the guidance on the application of computational simulation techniques to river flood modelling. Andrew Chadwick is an honorary professor of coastal engineering and the former associate director of the Marine Institute at the University of Plymouth, UK. John Morfett was the head of hydraulics research and taught at the University of Brighton, UK. Martin Borthwick is a consultant hydrologist, formerly a flood hydrology advisor at the UK’s Environment Agency, and previously an associate professor at the University of Plymouth, UK.
Book Synopsis Wastewater Treatment Concepts and Practices by : Francis Hopcroft
Download or read book Wastewater Treatment Concepts and Practices written by Francis Hopcroft and published by Momentum Press. This book was released on 2014-10-15 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental objective of wastewater treatment is to reduce the concentration of contaminants in the wastewater to such a degree that safe discharge to a receiving water, either surface water or groundwater, can be accomplished. Achieving that goal requires the application of several fundamental principles of engineering. Among those are chemistry, biology, hydraulics, fluid mechanics and mathematics of varying types. This book provides a synopsis of the basic fundamentals of those disciplines, as well as an outline of the use of those principles to solve specific wastewater engineering problems. This is the second in a series of volumes designed to assist with mastering the principles of environmental engineering. Inside this volume, the author addresses the process of wastewater treatment; not the mechanics or the machinery and reactors used to do the work. No amount of machinery and reactor vessels will ever treat wastewater effectively unless the process of using the equipment is properly developed first and properly utilized afterwards. A separate volume will address new and emerging technologies, updated regularly to cover those changes to the practice of wastewater treatment.

Book Synopsis Environmental Hydraulics by : Vijay Singh
Download or read book Environmental Hydraulics written by Vijay Singh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-08-31 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Triggerd primarily byill effects of polluted air, soil and water resources on living species, public concern for environmental quality has been growing during the past four decades or so. One manifestation of this concern is found in occurrence of public debates as well as in the demand for full environmental impact assessment before a water-resources project is approved. Engineering soundness and economic feasibility are no longer sufficient criteria for construction of hydraulic works. As a result, environmental considerations have become very much a part of hydraulic analyses. In response to growing environmental concerns, the field of hydraulics has expanded and a new branch, called Environmental Hydraulics, has emerged. The focus of this branch is on hydraulic analyses of those environmental issues that are important for protection, restoration, and managementof environmental quality. The motivation for this book grew out of the desire to provide a hydraulic discussion of some of the key environmental issues. It is hoped that the book would serve to stimulate others to write more comprehensive texts on this subject of growing importance.
